Next day

"Heard you're coming to Yoongi's party today?"

Taehyung averted his eyes away from the view outside and turned to look to his left, where he found a raven haired boy sitting next to him.

The blond felt warm, knowing Jeongguk was close.

And he despised that feeling.

"And?"

Jeongguk shifted his eyes from Taehyung to the view outside too. It was pretty early in the morning and the sun just rose fully, leaving the sky with pinkish dust. "Nothing. It's great you're coming too."

Taehyung felt his heart do a small flip and then cursed because of it. "Can't say the same about you," he responded, looking away from Jeongguk, who just smirked at the blond's remark.

"You're so nice," he chuckled, leaning back on his seat. "Do you know the way to Yoongi's? I can drive you if you want."

"You don't have a car," Taehyung scoffed and Jeongguk felt the stab. He shrugged it off. "I'll take my dad's car."

"Doesn't your dad work evenings?" Taehyung questioned and Jeongguk's expression fell as he hummed.

"Doesn't mean I still can't pick you up. We can walk, Yoongi doesn't live that far from your house," Jeongguk then suggested and Taehyung wondered why the older boy was suddenly so eager to go to the party with him.

Why was he being so nice?

And why did it do these funny things to Taehyung's heart?

"I'm fine, I'll find my way," the blond responded, although inside he would gladly go with Jeongguk, he just won't admit it.

"What a shame. I'm gonna pick you up at 6:30, tho."

Taehyung looked at him with widened eyes. "What no? You're not."

"Watch me," Jeongguk smiled.

He smiled and it made Taehyung blush.

"N-no, I mean, just go there by yourself. I'm not a kid to need someone bringing me there—

"I promised it," Jeongguk suddenly began, voice quieter than before as he looked at Taehyung. "Your first real party. I promised I'll go with you."

Taehyung froze. He wasn't a fan of parties when they were younger, in fact still isn't and Jeongguk, who actually loved partying, made a promise to attend Taehyung's first party together when they were around the age of 16 and 15. He remembers... this promise?

Clearing his throat, Taehyung crossed his arms. "This isn't my first party."

Jeongguk raised an eyebrow. "It's your first party where people are gonna be drunk," he said and Taehyung froze another time, because he remembered something else again.

"Don't worry, I promise I'll take care of you. I won't drink anything when you're with me, Taetae. Parties aren't that bad"

Taehyung just stared at Jeongguk. He made two promises that day. It's crazy how the simple fact that Jeongguk remembers such meaningless promises makes Taehyung feel all this crazy stuff inside.

"You promised this when I was 15. I'm 18 now, no need to worry," he shrugged it off, eyes suddenly locking with Jeongguk's.

The damn butterflies spread their wings inside of him the moment these charcoal eyes fell into his view. They were sparkling in something Taehyung couldn't identify and adding to that, his lips where in a light smile. Why was Jeongguk looking at him like this?

All this questions swirled through Taehyung's mind and he couldn't find an answer to any of them. The only thing he found out was how flustered Jeongguk was making him feel, so he cleared his throat, which seemed to rip the ravenette out of the 'daze' he was in.

"Like I said, I can go there by myself."

Jeongguk tilted his head. "I'll walk you there. If you want it or not."

It triggered Taehyung a little and he didn't know why he felt flustered when all he wanted to feel right now was pissed. "Don't pretend like promises mean something to you."

Jeongguk's expression fell, his smile dropping completely.

Taehyung just looked at him, then down when the ravenette didn't respond anything to that. "Doesn't matter... let's stop discussing this, it's unnecessary."

There it was. That glimpse of hope that Jeongguk was finally giving in and telling Taehyung the reason of why he left.

But it vanished when the ravenette continued to stay quiet. Taehyung just sighed to himself.

He was so confused. He wanted to continue and be pissed at Jeongguk. Yet for some reason he couldn't and that reason had his heart quickening its pace, leaving him breathless.

Closing his eyes, Taehyung crossed his arms on the table, placing his head on them. He was tired of it all— this chaos inside of him, this constant swirling of emotions, it was exhausting.

A few minutes later, their teacher still hasn't entered the classroom and some students were already leaving. Jeongguk curiously peaked to the blonde mob of hair, that hasn't moved ever since. A shallow breath left Jeongguk and he looked around, the classroom now being empty. Their teacher probably was sick.

The emptiness of the classroom made him smile a little bit, reminding him on the day he was locked here with Taehyung.

Slowly, Jeongguk moved closer to Taehyung. "Hey, euhm... everyone left."

Taehyung didn't move, only let out a disapproving sound.

Jeongguk leaned back on his seat. "I know... I messed up, but please let me make up for it. I really mean it.."

No response. Jeongguk furrowed his eyebrows and got up, walking around the table to be able to look into Taehyung's face. His face welcomed a smile when he noticed Taehyung has fallen asleep and he almost laughed at the fact that he just talked to a sleeping person.

The ravenette crossed his arms, watching the blond. He never doubted Taehyung's beauty. Actually, no one can, because the shortest look at him already has everyone wrapped around his beauty.

And Jeongguk was the first one to ever get wrapped around it.

Still with that smile on his lips, Jeongguk walked back to his seat and sat down next to Taehyung. He copied the younger's position and also laid his head on his arms on the table, eyes looking at blonde hair.

His body itched him to reach his arm out and let his fingers caress through these pure golden curls. So he did what he couldn't hold back, his hand moving towards the sleeping blond, as he let his fingers gently thread through the soft hair, his touch barely there.

Now, this shouldn't be happening without Taehyung knowing. Jeongguk pulled his hand back the moment the blond stirred in his sleep, turning his face to lay on the other side.

Jeongguk's breath hitched the moment he was face to face with Taehyung's ethereal features, his rosy cheeks due to sleep making him look the cutest possible.

Obviously, Jeongguk couldn't help but enjoy this moment. It feels like back then.

Back then, when no worries had the boys apart from each other, when no borders were set between them and their relationship — wether it was friendship or more, wether it was best friends or less.

Kids have it so easy.

Back then, he always used to find comfort in being close to Taehyung, no matter what the blond was doing. Taehyung had always been his safe haven, had always been his home.

That's why he left, but at the same time didn't.

He has a story to tell and he doesn't know how long he will be able to hold back his screams of sorrow and the longing he is feeling towards Taehyung. He doesn't know how long he can keep missing Taehyung, until he'll explode because he can't bear not being with him any longer.

A sigh fell past Jeongguk's lips.

He was so tired of it.

Taehyung has never ever slept this bad in his entire life. It actually wasn't because of the nap he just accidentally took, but the way he was resting, his back bend forward had his neck aching.

He groaned lightly, before fluttering his eyes open. And he froze.

Then flinched fully awake, sitting upright as realization hit him.

He didn't just fall asleep in school, right?

And he didn't just wake up next to Jeongguk, right?

Taehyung mustered the sleeping raven haired with a racing heartbeat and a still by sleep clouded mind.

How did this happen?

He quickly looked around the room. It was empty, no teacher nor students in sight. Just him and Jeongguk.

He hoped no one saw them sleeping here.

Taehyung tried to recollect any memory of falling asleep, especially of falling asleep next to Jeongguk. It was just a faint memory, but he knew he wanted to rest because of exhaustion and then accidentally fell asleep.

Now, why was Jeongguk still here?

Soft brown orbs watched the ravenette. Contrary to how Taehyung has perceived him over this past few days, Jeongguk now seemed so peaceful.

His heartbeat speeded up a little, noticing how Jeongguk still sleeps with his lips in a pout, just like he always did. It was a trait Taehyung always loved to look at, since this soft side of Jeongguk was rarely seen.

When they were best friends, Taehyung always used to look up to Jeongguk. He was perfect in any kind of sports, talented in so many different ways and it felt like whatever he created seemed to be just how it should be, with no flaws. He always had a strong and confident personality, doing what he wants, saying what he wants and Taehyung used to admire it.

His heart was aching at the thought that all of this was over.

He misses how easy the things used to be as kids, how nice it was to not even see an ending in sight.

Taehyung misses their friendship. The way both took care of each other as if they were the only persons left on the world. The way they stuck together, as if being without the other was impossible. The way they always were each other's number one.

Taehyung misses being Jeongguk's number one. ( pain lmao)

He was his best friend and whatever Taehyung ordered, Jeongguk did. Whenever something seemed just slightly dangerous, like for example when Taehyung was training to learn a cartwheel, Jeongguk would worriedly watch him and make sure he was safe. Or whenever Taehyung felt tired, Jeongguk would always be there for the younger and be his pillow to hug.

Taehyung loved being Jeongguk's number one.

But things change, people grow up and two little best friends grew up to have one of the most complicated relationships ever.

Taehyung pulled his phone out of his pocket, sighing when he saw that ten minutes left before all classes end and they need to go home. He was rather grateful for the small amount of sleep he could catch because of the absence of their teacher.

His eyes were back on the curly head next to him, his long black hair was covering his eyes now.

"Jeongguk?" He called out, planning to wake him up. A month ago, he wouldn't have thought about doing that.

He would've simply left without any guilt, until a teacher catches him and he gets confronted for falling asleep in school.

"Jeongguk, wake up," he said louder now, watching as the ravenette's eyebrows furrowed and then his eyes opened.

Both froze the moment their eyes met and Jeongguk needed a short time to comprehend the situation.

Taehyung cleared his throat. "Euh... we fell asleep.."

Jeongguk nodded, sitting up and stretching his arms, yawning. "Didn't know I needed this."

The blond chuckled a little. "I know right, I didn't know I was this exhausted."

"I was talking about falling asleep and waking up next to you, but what you said is true too," Jeongguk smirked, having Taehyung stare at him wide-eyed, then scoff.

"I'm leaving," he announced, grabbing his backpack and getting up, trotting towards the door with big steps.

Jeongguk chuckled, looking after the blond with amusement. "I'll pick you up later."

Hearing that, Taehyung spun around in light speed. "No!"

Clicking his tongue, Jeongguk also got up, strapping his backpack over his shoulder. He walked towards Taehyung and just passed him. "6:30pm, be ready by then," and he walked way without turning back.

Taehyung felt dumbfounded.

He sighed.
