《I'm Stuck! [The Umbrella Academy : Five Hargreeves X Reader]》Chapter Fourteen

Five briefly explained the plan to Luther and how they were gonna approach the two before getting there, with the boy making sure [Name] stayed in the van.
"But what if they start shooting?" The girl grouched, knowing it would happen even if it was dispersed as soon as it happened anyway.
"Will they?" Five shot back with an arched brow.
"Well.." she hesitated, averting her eyes.
"Then I wouldn't let it get to that. And you know you need to stay here, I don't want the Handler to know about your existence unless she already does. You're our trump card." She didn't know if she should feel complimented or not, so she could only pout, sighing in resignation.
"You know.." Five started once they reached their destination, stopping the car in front of an old barn and gazing up at Luther. "I never enjoyed it."
[Name] decided to stay quiet, knowing that this genuine conversation should stay between the two brothers.
"What?"
"The killing." As he gazed outside, "I mean– I was.. I was good at my work, and I–I took pride in it. But it never gave me pleasure."
"I think it was all those years alone. Solitude can do funny things to the mind." And she has to agree, she may not have experienced it directly, but seeing his memories, of how broken he was during all those years in the apocalypse.. it left a huge pang in her chest.
"Yeah, well, you were gone
for such a long time. I only spent four years on the moon, but that was more than enough."
"It's the being alone that breaks you." And silence. This time with the three lost in their own thoughts, melancholic air surrounding them as [Name] gazed down at Delores in sadness.
"You think they'll buy it?" Luther decided to ask, diverting the topic back to what they came here for.
"Well," Five said as he exhaled, "what I do know is that they're desperate. It's like a cop losing his gun. If the Commission finds out, they'll be in deep shit. Oh, not to mention the fact that they'll be stuck here until they get it back." He added.
"Well, I should hold onto it." As Luther took the briefcase beside the girl. "In case they make a move."
"Okay, Luther, but be careful. I mean, I've.. I've lived a long enough life, but.. you're still quite young. You got your whole life ahead of you. Don't waste it." [Name] tightly closing her mouth to stop a snicker from escaping due to how awkward he said it, as if he was indeed an actual old man even if he's just technically eight years older than the rest.
They heard a car approaching, and then saw it pass and continued driving until it stopped in front of them, right next to a telephone booth.
"Here we go, if this all goes sideways, Delores.. I'm sorry," he said as he gazed mournfully at the mannequin currently in [Name]'s lap.

The two left the car, [Name] sneakily going to the passenger seat to see how the exchange went as she looked up at Luther blocking the door. She slowly slid down on the seat, making sure her head wasn't visible through the window but still enough for her to see that Five was still talking with the two.
"Are things gonna get dicey here?" Luther mumbled, seemingly trying his best not to be obviously talking to someone inside the car as he leaned at the door.
"Yeah, but don't worry about it too much." She simply answered, seeing Five walk back to them as Cha-cha started calling through the phone.
"What happens now?" Asked Luther, Five narrowing his eyes upon seeing the girl at the passenger seat who merely smiled sheepishly at him.
"Now we wait." And as if on cue, an ice cream truck chimes behind them, the song reminding the girl of those action movies she used to watch.
"Is that her?" Luther asked, the truck passing them as the two siblings looked on in disbelief, seeing Klaus and Diego inside, Klaus waving at them while [Name] couldn't help but laugh in excitement.
"What the hell is he doing here?"
"Go faster!" Diego urges Klaus, Ben excitedly saying, "Whee!"
"It's a set-up," Cha-cha groans as the agents start shooting the truck, the two then getting hit by it and getting thrown as the girl sees a stray bullet about to hit Luther. She knew what was gonna happen next.
But what she wasn't expecting was to see it with her own eyes. The rest of them started slowing down, until.. nothing. Nobody's moving. She looked up in surprise at Five who was looking around curiously, seeing that she could move, too.
"Neat trick, isn't it?" A woman's voice suddenly uttered. [Name] slowly slid down the seat as she gazed up at Five with wide eyes while he moved away from the car, keeping the Handler's attention on him.
"Hello, Five. You look good, all things considered."
"It's good to see you again," Five said casually, inserting his hands in his pockets. [Name] couldn't see much of what was happening, but she can only hope the Handler didn't mean for her to be able to move. But then, how was she able to move, then? Did that lady mean it?
"Feels like we met just yesterday. Course, you were a little bit older then. Congratulations on the age regression, by the way. Very clever. Threw us all of the scent." If [Name] didn't know any better, she would've thought they're just having a casual chitchat, given their calm and almost soft voices, but knowing how the two work, it was far from it.
"..Here I am," she heard Five say, momentarily forgetting where she was as she tuned back in the conversation.
"You realize your efforts are futile. So why don't you tell me what you really want?"
"I want you to put a stop to it."

"You realize what you're asking for is next to impossible, even for me. What's meant to be is meant to be. That's our raison d'être."
"Yeah? Well how about survival as a raison?" She furrowed her brows as she peeked out a little bit, her brows immediately raising upon seeing Five pointing a gun at the lady.
"I'll just be replaced. I'm but a.. small cog in a machine. This fantasy you've been nurturing about summoning up your family
to stop the apocalypse.. is just that. A fantasy." As the Handler slowly walked closer to Five, Five lowering his gun but still keeping it pointed at her.
"I must say, though, we're all quite impressed with your initiative, your.. stick-to-itiveness, really quite– quite something. Which is why we want to offer you a new position back at the Commission, in management." She said this in a way as if the position was something so fantastic, causing Five to give an ironic laugh.
"Sorry, what's that now?"
"Come back to work for us again. You know it's where you belong." As the Handler continued to walk closer to the boy. [Name] grimaced, wanting to stop the Handler from getting any closer to Five, but she also knew showing herself wouldn't really work out for the both of them.
"Well, it didn't work out too well the last time."
"But you wouldn't be in the correction division any longer. I'm talking about.. the home office. You'd have the best health and pension, and an end to this ceaseless travel. You're a distinguished professional in.. schoolboy shorts." As she looked down at Five's shorts. [Name] was doing all she could to stop from making any sounds of disgust, begging the Handler in her mind to be done with whatever she's doing and pray to God if He ever does exist to stop this nonsense right now.
"We have the technology to reverse the process. I mean, you.." as the Handler held the gun on Five's hand and lowered it, getting nearer. "..you can't be happy like this."
"I'm not looking for happy." The girl heard the roughness in his voice, heard it quiver causing her to smile sadly at him. Five glanced at her for a second before immediately returning his attention to the Handler.
"We're all looking for happy," as the Handler then lifted her hand and grazed her knuckles on Five's cheek making [Name] want to puke, biting her knuckle to stop herself from screaming as goosebumps ran all over her – and not in a good way, doing all her might to NOT get up right now and stop the harassment.
"We can make that happen." Thankfully, she finally lowered her hand back to her side. "We can make you.. yourself again."
Five sighs as he gazed at the rest again, "And what about my family?"
"What about them?"
"I want them to survive." He said with gritted teeth. [Name] immediately hid herself again as the Handler looked at both Luther and the two in the ice cream truck.
She sighed, "All of them?" The Handler said, sounding disappointed.
"Yes, all of them."
"Well.." she said as she wore her sunglasses again. "I'll see what I can do. Do we have a deal?" And outstretched her hand towards Five.
"One thing," as he walks away, [Name] crossing her fingers and wishing the Handler wouldn't look in her direction as Five unloads a gun on the floor and then threw it separate ways, then looking back at the bullet about to hit Luther and pointing it to the other direction, away from the van.
When the Handler raised her hand again, thinking he's done, he walked straight behind Luther, and [Name] couldn't help but widen her eyes, feeling her heart pump faster in panic.
"Good luck," as he glanced at her momentarily before patting Luther's back,
and she gave him a small smile as he proceeded to walk towards the Handler, finally taking her hand.
Time continued again, Luther looking around in surprise as he called out, "Five!"
"Hurry, come on!" [Name] whisper-yelled as Luther threw the briefcase as far away from them as possible.
She was bouncing on her seat as Luther dragged Diego and Klaus, Cha-cha going to the case while Hazel went to the direction of the gun.
Diego and Klaus went through the back as Luther then sat on the driver's seat, immediately driving them off as Klaus flipped the assassins off through the backdoor.
"How did you two get here?" [Name] asked once they're far enough away from the two, who are probably really mad at them by now.
"We saw the guy exit Griddy's and then followed him to a motel. Then followed them here and saw these two," Diego simply explained, the girl furrowing her brows as she tried to wrack her memory if that had happened but shrugging when nothing came up.
"Are you two okay?" She asked, worried.
"Yeah, nothing we haven't experienced yet." Her brows raised in surprise, wondering when Diego could have experienced a car crash while also knowing that with Klaus it could be a possibility, but nodding in understanding.
"So do you know where Five is?" Luther asked.
"Yeah, he was– I don't even know how it happened or if the Handler meant for me to hear their conversation, but they stopped time and Five made a deal with her so now he's back working for them."
"You didn't even try to stop him?" Diego exclaimed.
"Well I can't really show myself to the Handler in case she doesn't know I can move, now can I? She didn't really acknowledge me at all so I still have no idea if she knows of my existence. Besides, Five's gonna come back anyway, it's just a ruse so the agents would get off our backs." She added.
"We need to tell this to the others," Luther voiced, the girl nodding in agreement.
"Yay, family meeting!" Klaus exclaimed in a not-so enthusiastic way.

Our Shattered Realms
*This is a learning experience for me so please keep in mind that I am attempting to work on some of the issues brought to my attention early on. However I haven't yet gone back to redo the early chapters.* Less than two days ago every piece of electronics in the world stopped working for more than two hours. The death toll was immense. Hospital equipment failed, cars stopped in the middle of the street, planes fell from the sky, and homework was lost at the worst possible moment. We found out that it was just the flicker and hum of The System warming up. Now we see the true cost of our new world. A Dark comedy that focuses on a few of the many people who aren't stuck in a high level dungeon when our world is translated and joined to Our Shattered Realms. This is my first story that I have published. I welcome any criticism that you have for me. Thank you for reading and I hope you enjoy!

Unto Dark
A man of cripplingly ill mind, bridled with the spirits and regrets of the past. Wade Pierce trudges through each day of his monochrome existence, only as penance for his sins. Such a man is abruptly decamped of this world courtesy of unapologetic forces, left stranded in a realm filled with unknowns. Armed only with his potent yet fragile intellect, Wade advances into this new abyss, as he attempts to rewrite the wrongs he has committed. Plagued by vile beasts, self-righteous Gods, and even his own seething darkness, the cracks in his mind begin to spread and a dangerous, newfound power bubbles beneath the surface. As the world grows darker day by day, this unfortunate journey begins ------------ I suppose rectitude dictates that I should state any themes worthy of noting here. First of all, this story is not a sunshiny one in the slightest. Since it is listed under the psychological and mature tag and not the comedy tag, that shouldn't be a surprise. Next, morbidity is a factor and general apathy towards human life. All of these are common themes amongst other writers, so nothing new there. The story also contains consensual, and non-consensual sexual activity, although I have tried to be as tasteful as is possible for someone like myself. Finally, the pace is drawn-out, and the language is magniloquent at times. Not to mention, the chapters are quite lengthy. Don't expect to read this halfheartedly... Other than that, enjoy the story... There's nothing more important than that...
