《Freaks & Geek》Chapter 9: A Little More

"A vampire. A werewolf. And a demon." Harlow said aloud after drinking some water. "Sounds like the beginning of a very bad joke, cara mia." Val smiled trying to work through his nerves and tension. "Why aren't you afraid?" Damien finally spoke up genuinely wanting to know the answer. "Honestly, I am." She said causing their chests to deflate. "But at the same time, I know with every fiber of my being that none of you would ever hurt me." They smiled at that and her. "Why is that?"

"What do you know about mates?" Wes said as he walked back into the kitchen. Harlow quirked an eyebrow. "I know what I've read and watched. A mate is basically one's soulmate. Someone made for another." He nodded before taking a seat. "In your case you have three soulmates." Harlow began choking on the bit of lasagna she had eaten. Val patted her back as she grabbed her glass of water.

"Say what now?" She finally said once composed. "We're your mates, dove." Damien said beside her and it shocked her. "I want to say you're lying and that mates aren't real, but I quite literally just watched you turn from Bael to you, so anything is possible. Is that why you all have been so focused on me? Is that why I can't stop thinking about you three?" They nodded their head still trying to gauge her reaction. "What does it mean for me? For us? What do I have to do?" Damien moved to hold her hand and like last time another image emerged of them having sex in a different position and location. Harlow grabbed her hand back. "What is that? Are you doing that? Do you see those images too?"

Damien nodded. He had a theory on why it was happening, but as he looked at Alistair strong glare, he kept it to himself. "I'm not sure why it's happening, dove. As for what it means to be mates, if you chose to be with us it's liken to a marriage. We would be your husbands ready and willing to love and protect you come what may." Harlow looked into his green eyes before looking at both Wes and Val who sported similar expressions. "And if I don't want to be mates? If I don't want to be married to you three...what happens then?"

Harlow felt as all the air had been sucked out of the room. "We would either lose some of our power or die altogether." Her eyes widened at the revelation, but she knew she had to think long and hard about this. Today truly was a lot and she just wanted to take a vacation away from the madness at this point. "Can I have some time to think about it?" Val nodded at her. "You can have all the time you need, cara mia. Just know we're not going anywhere. I know it's different for mortals, but know that we already love you so much."

His words did something to her that she didn't expect. Harlow simply nodded before getting off the stool and going to wash her dish. "Don't worry about that. I got it," Wes offered with a small smile. She knew she had hurt them by asking about a possible rejection, but she wanted to know what could happen and needed to know that was an option for her. "Goodnight." She said as she made her way towards her room. "Come on, Ali. It's way past your bedtime." Alistair looked at the dejected men and meowed before following his Mama to their new room.

"She's going to reject us," Val spiraled into nervousness. "She's not. She just needs time to think it through. I mean she literally met a demon, a werewolf and a vampire the same day she started a new job and was robbed. It's a lot for a supernatural individual let alone one that thinks she's a mortal." Wes offered as he handed them a beer. "We will love her until the very end regardless of when that time is." Damien finally spoke up. "She and Bael seemed to get along once he let her touch him." Wes said before sipping. "I just can't believe she saw him and didn't run for the hills."

"Our girl is stronger than we give her credit for." Val smiled. "I saw her demon," Damien spoke up. "I saw that too. When her eyes went all black." Wes said with a nod. "We need to tell her." Damien shook his head. "We don't know what that would do to her mentally. Also, her father isn't some run of the mill demon. He's Beelzebub. He's a five-star general in Hell and if he cloaked her, it was for a reason." Wes and Val huffed before sipping their beers.

"I hope she chooses us." Val pouted as they moved to the living room. "She will," Wes assured with a smile. Aries was over the moon just having her touch him. He couldn't wait to mark and mate her. Val still thought of her fingers on him. He knew she was afraid, but she pushed through her fears and let him in. The real him. He knew they all needed to talk to her about what they were, but also who they really were in the near future. He hoped it would help her in her decision making.

Damien could feel Bael emote for the first time. He knew that he had never loved until now and it was comforting that his demon self not only loved Kali, but also loved Harlow as well. He was going to cherish her and love her the best he could. He knew that she had handled everything better than any of them could expect, but he wondered when she found out who they really were if she'd stay or leave for good.

"What should I do, Ali?" Harlow asked her large feline who stretched out across her upper and mid body. He let out a meow that caused her to huff. "I know you can talk asshole." Alistair raised his head to look at her for a moment. "Bitch what?" Alistair finally spoke causing Harlow to roll her eyes. "How did you know I could talk? How are you not concerned?" Harlow petted her trusted companion and thought back to the night six years ago when she walked into her bedroom in Decatur and found a sleeping Alistair. She thought he was so cute until he started talking.

She wanted to perform an exorcism right then and there until he called out "Mama." Harlow knew then that not only would Alistair never hurt her, but she felt deep down he'd protect her at all costs. "You talk in your sleep," she replied to the shocked cat. "Well damn. Here I was meowing like an idiot when I could've told you about yourself years ago." She chuckled at him before moving him over to the side. "What should I do?" Alistair rubbed his head on her chin before curling up and yawning.

"You may not know this because your mortal mind is trying to make sense of nonsense, but you are in love with those men. I know it and deep down you know. I say be with them and let them turn your ass out." Harlow chuckled loudly before spanking him. Alistair laughed a little before settling down. "Let them sweat a little though. They're supernatural, but you were raised like a mortal so have them woo you as such."

Harlow liked the idea before Alistair's words washed over her. "What do you mean 'raised like a mortal'? I am a mortal." Alistair's eyes opened for a second before nodding. "You know what I meant, girl." He tried to brush off and it worked. "I love you Ali baby." The cat purred happily. "I love you too, Mama." Harlow slept so deep and restfully that Alistair knew it was because some of the truth had been revealed to her.

He wasn't sure if it was because she had finally met her mates or not, but Kali and Ayla were not as sedated as they once were. Her powers were also getting stronger by the day. Alistair originally thought not telling her would be in her best interest, but he was starting to think it wasn't. She needed to be introduced slowly or all hell could quite possibly break loose. "We'll tell you the whole truth eventually, Mama." He curled up into her side and went to sleep happily.

The next morning, Harlow found herself standing in front of her floor length mirror in a black, red and white pant suit with a black blouse and matching Louis Vuitton heels. She couldn't believe Val's sister's closet, but she was grateful. As Harlow thought on things from last night, she realized that Val probably didn't have a sister. He had done all this for her knowing they were mates in hopes that she would one day live with them. "Had they orchestrated the break in?" Harlow asked herself and found herself getting angry.

She thought to herself. Harlow grabbed the black Blackwood purse she had snagged from the closet and made her way out angrily. "Don't do or say anything crazy, Mama." Alistair called out from the bed knowing Kali may poke through, but she ignored him. "Did you three orchestrate the break in at my apartment? Did you want me here so bad that you had my things stolen?" They could see she was angry and watched as her eyes flashed from all black to deep brown.

Damien walked up to her and stroked her arms. "We did not orchestrate it, dove, but we're glad you're here. The Central District is home to many rogue vampires and werewolves and it wasn't safe for you." Harlow found herself breathing deeply to calm herself. She wasn't sure what had gotten into her, but the idea of being manipulated made her furious. "You don't have a sister, do you?" Harlow asked Val with a glare. "I did. She died in 200 AD." Harlow's eyes widened. "How old are you?! How old are all of you?!" She stepped out of Damien's grasp. Val rubbed the back of his head, while Damien and Wes stared daggers into him.

"We're old Princess, but that doesn't matter. What matters is that you slept well last night and you're ready for breakfast." Wes tried steering the conversation. He knew from observation that Harlow lovedItalian food, but he knew like most girls she loved food in general. He was the chef around the mansion as both Val and Damien didn't need food to survive. They would eat to keep up appearances with mortals or if bored, but it did nothing for them.

Harlow stared at the pancakes, sausage and eggs and smiled widely. "All is forgiven." She called over her shoulder as she sat down and loaded her plate. Wes laughed at her before looking over a Val who mouthed a quick 'thank you.' Damien sat next to her and placed his arm across the back of her chair. "We were talking, dove and we know how self-conscious you are about being seen with us at work. We knew that driving into the office with us would be a hard no for you and since there are no bus stops on this side of town, we were hoping you'd be up for taking one of our cars."

Harlow looked at him as she chewed before taking a sip of her orange juice. "What type of car are we talking? It can't be flashy." Damien looked at Wes who simply shrugged. "The least flashy car we have is a black G-wagon." Harlow's eyes widened. "That is a luxury vehicle. Don't you have a Corolla or something?!" Val laughed loudly earning a glare from her. "What am I supposed to say when asked about this new vehicle, huh?" Wes shrugged.

"Tell them to mind their fucking business." Harlow knew before looking that she'd be met with amber eyes. "Aries cursing someone out isn't always the best method." He shrugged before letting Wes takeover. "You simply tell them the truth. It's on loan from your boyfriends until you find something you're more comfortable with." Damien said with a small smile and Harlow shook her head. "You're not my boyfriends and even if you were you can't just drop a polyamorous relationship on people like that."

She didn't mean to hurt their feelings, but they needed to think like a mortal if things were going to work out for them. "Here," Wes said handing her the keys. "Thanks." She replied taking in their dejected stance. She made quick work of washing her dishes and packing up the leftover food as the guys had left already. "Why are you so mean to them, Mama?" Alistair asked from the stool.

"I'm not trying to be. I just...you know I have trust issues and here I am mated to not one or two, but three supernatural creatures...how do I know that what I feel is real and not some product of this mate bond or whatever? How do I know that all of this is real and I'm not somewhere in a loony bin?" Harlow sighed loudly looking down. "How do I know they won't leave me the moment I let them in?" Alistair stared at her with sad eyes as he watched a tear drop. "They're not your father, Mama. They love you enough to stay."

Harlow smiled at her talking cat before wiping her eyes. She was thankful that today, like most days for her, was a makeup free day. She had her mother to thank for her clear skin and her father to thank for her smooth and deep dark coloring. "Be good, Ali. Don't go tearing shit up in this mansion, because Mama can't afford to replace not a damn thing in this place." Alistair meowed absentmindedly as he headed around to explore the expansive mansion he had all to himself.
