《Not Anyone | Vernon Chwe》Chapter 29

Liv stood up from sitting on the floor of her room when she got ahold of Vernon's shirt from the newly washed clothes she was in the middle of folding.
She took off the shirt that she was currently wearing and changed into the shirt that she once tried to return back to Vernon but failed, she would wear it everytime she looked for Vernon's scent and till then, it was the only remaining memory she had of him.
Liv stood in front of the full length mirror, making a ninety degree turn, she stood on her side. She grasp both sides of the shirt to make her baby bump prominent, and instantly as she did, a small but genuine smile crawled it's way into her face.
She has been five months pregnant already, and every time she feels her stomach, she realizes how much of a gift the baby inside of her is.
"I really wish the time you'd come out could happen quicker, I truly could use a companion.", Liv spoke to the reflection of her stomach as she caressed it.
Her friend was usually busy with work, and her being pregnant had no exemption. They could only spend time after five p.m. and after a little later, they would doze off to sleep out of exhaustion from living their everyday life.
Liv walked to her bed and gently laid herself there. The things going around her life has been straining her, from concerning herself with her job, to dealing with the symptoms of pregnancy that she swore she will never get used to, but at the end of the day, the last thing that she wanted was to stress herself out and it affecting her baby.
As far as she could go, she was just existing.
"You have to come with me, Liv. I promise, you're going to love it there.", Gia said, her third sentence of trying to convince Liv.
First thing when her friend saw her in a weekend morning, Gia gave her a ticket saying it was for a gallery, she told her that a guy she has been hooking up with whom Liv had never met yet, gave her a ticket and another for when she wants to bring a plus one, for a gallery the guy was going to exhibit.

It wasn't like she didn't want to accompany her friend, it was just that she was already seven months pregnant and it had just been recently since she started her maternity leave, she was just taking as much chances to rest for a life to be safe.
And for another teeny tiny reason, she wasn't convinced to go since her friend told her the details about the gallery, telling her that it was photographs taken from Spain. Of all places, why did it have to be the country she was trying her best to forget?
"I don't really know. ."
"Please? It's not always that we could get to experience something like this on a weekend."
As much as she didn't want to go and probably remember things that she was still in the middle of running away from, she didn't want to upset Gia as well.
Liv slowly nodded her head. "Alright, I'll go.", She chuckled looking at her friend. "You really don't want to disappoint him, do you?"
Gia's smile could almost reach her ear by the mention of him. "He's just too good to let go."
Her friend held her shoulder from the back and (gently) pushed her towards her wardrobe. "Sorry to hurry you, it's just that he gave me the tickets just yesterday.", Gia told her as she picked clothes for her.
"I'm sure I would've still said no even if it was a week sooner.", She joked, but it was something she probably would've did.
"And I'm certain too that you would eventually say yes, like right now.", They both giggled at each other, mostly Liv, mentally sighing by how her friend knows how soft she was for her.
It was already October and it was getting more colder and colder each day, Liv had a layer of thick clothes and completed with a puffer jacket, while her friend had about half.
Gia held her wrist and led her inside a three storey building, outside the door was a large stand banner and written there was about the gallery exhibit.
For the record, Liv didn't know the name of the guy her friend has been associating with, she never mentioned it to her, and from the stand banner, she didn't had the chance to see if ever the guy's name was as well written there, when her friend excitedly pulled her inside.

The place wasn't crowded, it had the perfect amount of people. It was also not that loud, the temperature inside was ideally warm, and Liv was more than glad about everything, she would've become instantly dizzy if the otherwise was the case.
She and her friend looked around the exhibit, and at some point, they separated, yet they were fully aware of it.
Some of the places in the photographs were familiar to Liv. The emerald water pond at the park where Vernon asked her if he could seat with her at the bench was there, some parts of the beach where they spent a night with was also there, and even a few places where she's been at around the hotel where she stayed at was there.
At some point of her trip, perhaps she had encountered the person who took those photos.
Liv found herself ascending the stairs as the gallery exhibit was until the second floor. It was a bit hard for her because of her baby bump, but she managed and had reached the last step of the stairs.
She turned to the side, and unconsciously, her paces started slowing down as she paved her way towards this big black and white picture hanging on the wall like the any other photographs in the exhibit.
Her palm went up to her mouth as soon as she was at a three step distance from the picture — the picture that seemed to stopped her heart from beating, the reason of the tears that were starting to form on her eyes.
It wasn't a mirror, yet she saw herself inside the frame. She was beaming in a measure she hadn't had for awhile in the picture whilst looking back, her hair was blowned by the wind and the background was the sea. It was the time where they spent the night together.
"Did you cry? Why are your eyes damp?"
Liv instinctively reached the bottom of her eye as she forged a grin. "Must be because of the pregnancy, I get mood swings and I saw something. . something moving just now.", She cleared her throat, hoping her friend would buy her lie.
"Oh. .", Gia's eyes became sad as she walked closer to her.
They have talked about how Liv was having a hard time about pregnancy and what comes along with it, and at that time, her friend must've felt bad towards her.
"It's alright, really.", She said with a reassuring tone and a reassuring smile.
Once again, Liv and her friend separated, only that this time, it was for the rest of the time and she would have to go home alone.
Gia had finally met his guy, and asked her to go somewhere with him, she didn't want to leave Liv and told the guy that they should hang out next time, but Liv insisted that it was alright and she was fine going home alone.
She wasn't actually, though, she would find herself struggling, but it seemed like they wanted to be with each other so much, so there she was, waiting for a cab outside the building, not wanting to spoil her friend's fun.
Fortunately, a cab stopped in front of her not long after she started waiting. She opened the door and already braced herself to get in, yet halted when her eyes landed on a person standing across the street.
It was Vernon, and she proved herself true when he froze and looked at her too.
She knew the right choice was to get in the cab and continue to the way that wasn't going to lead her to him, but she found herself contemplating, even more when Vernon shook his head telling her not to go.
It wasn't possible yet for Vernon to cross the road since it was still the red light.
She had about fifteen seconds to decide. She leaned to level the cab's roof, and her doing so left Vernon's face to alter. He was disappointed, and devastated and he didn't know where to find her anymore.
The cab left, yet what made him surprise and at the same time bewildered was her still standing there.
Vernon smiled at her, and as soon as the streetlight turned green, he instantly sprinted his way towards her.
"Hi.", He said, slightly breathless.
"Hi.", She replied, regretting it already.
It was a bad idea seeing him again, and talking to him again. She wasn't sure if it was just the pregnancy hormones acting up, but hell, she missed him so much.
