《Not Anyone | Vernon Chwe》Chapter 28

Liv had sleep for at least two hours before she woke up, frantic because she only had an hour left before her flight.

She was in so much hurry that all she could think about was for her to get to the airport, and up until then, she didn't get to recall last night, have a moment to look around the dream that she'll have to wake up from, and tell Vernon farewell while remembering every moment she had with him.

Her eleven hours flight passed, and for a day and thirteen hours more, Vernon took the risk to see her again not knowing she's a country away already.

He stood in front of her door, already determined to knock. However, both his arms stayed still on his sides and he was taken aback and confused when an unfamiliar person - certainly not Liv, came out from the hotel room she used to booked in.

He was sure he was on the right floor, he looked at the room's door number a hundred times for him to get it wrong, yet, why wasn't she the one who came out?

He had a thousand of questions going around his mind, but, every one of it were answered as soon as he knew from the receptionist at the front desk that Liv booked out of the hotel two days ago.

He almost couldn't believe his own ears, yet all has happened already, and he had witnessed all the proof — proofs that she actually left when she clearly told him at a two a.m call that she wasn't.

He didn't know who to blame other than himself. He was at fault at the part where he unintentionally played with her feelings, at the part where he could've been more open with her, at the part where he confused his feelings with just having fun, and at the part where he should have explained everything to her. .

Everything about his past, the past that he escaped from, the past which he thought would just eventually disperse if he doesn't mind it.

From about two months ago, at a certain afternoon, Vernon was standing at the of end of the aisle inside a church, all dressed up on his tuxedo, his black hair slicked back, waiting for the big wooden door to open and there will walk through his bride.

With a content smile, he stood there patiently, even though the atmosphere was starting to shift and the guests were starting to murmur, switching talks about how the bride was starting to get late, Vernon remained unmoving on his place.

The situation became completely different from a normal wedding ceremony, that at the moment when one of the two doors opened, all eyes were on it, and unexpecting enough, rather than a lady on a wedding dress, a guy in a tuxedo went inside in a hurry, his direction towards Vernon.

"Sean?", Vernon questioned as soon as his friend was infront of him. And judging from the look on his friend's face, he knew it was something unpleasant. Vernon pressed his palm against his forehead. "I'm sure you have every idea of what's happening."

"Cath ran away. She was crying. She was all ready and was about to enter, but she said that it didn't feel right, that she thought about it for a long time, and said that you would understand. I didn't really get her at all, but that's what all she asked me to tell you.", Sean explained.

Vernon knew that, that wedding wasn't any other wedding, it's actually even safe to say that it wasn't at any rate a wedding. His bride bailed on her, Cath did when all along he was so sure of marrying her.

However, in a relationship where he always thinks that he's only the one who's still actually in love, where he feels like she's becoming more distant, he wasn't expecting her to leave him even before he could see her inside the church but, he wasn't completely surprised as well.

And like what his friend, Sean told him, he understood the reason but he wouldn't ever understand her nor will he even try to.

Because cheating was one thing he under no circumstances would ever find himself understanding.

It takes no specific time for people to change how they think, and them in general. Vernon somehow hoped that at some point before their wedding, Cath would change, the way she thinks and her feelings, and he himself as the living proof saw that she didn't.

But it did happen though, only much later and at a very wrong time.

"You bailed on me on our wedding and you expect me to have the same feelings for you? Telling me that you still want to marry me?", Vernon asked Cath, trying all his best to remain calm.

After Liv saw Cath inside his hotel room the next day after she got drunk, after Liv completely misunderstood him and left, after he messed up, he was still looking for peace within himself.

"If that's how you view it, then be it, if that will lead you back to me."

Vernon ran his fingers through his hair out of frustration. "What about Teo? Is he the one you're leaving now because he didn't feel right anymore? Do you think that he would understand you?"

In all of life's mishaps, the guy Cath cheated with is a friend of Vernon, not a close friend but Teo was someone he often meets with.

And in between, they somehow found themselves behind Vernon's back.

He didn't want an explanation from Cath, he doesn't want to listen to someone he has completely lost trust of, if anything, all he wanted was to run after Liv.

He wanted to tell Liv about what has been on his mind lately, he wanted to give her what he wasn't able to, he wanted to hold her hand and kiss her right on the spot, because for pete's sake, he wanted an escape,

Over time, Liv's life has somehow went back to how it used to be before her vacation in Spain. She went back to going to work every week day, lost herself in situations she can't run away from and she had no one as an escape.

She did all the necessary explaining to her friend, Gia. From the start, the fairytale climax and the ending even before she knew was coming.

Her friend's comfort was the only thing that kept her going, yet, even if she tried to deny it to herself, there are still days that she would think of him and nights that she would cry herself to sleep. There are also times where she would look desperately for his scent.

And on a particular morning, Liv was forced to hop out of her bed when she felt nauseous and had the urge to vomit.

Her friend came as soon as she heard the door bang opened against the wall. Gia collected Liv's hair and caressed her back while she threw up on the toilet bowl, but she still couldn't feel the slightest of being better now that her head started to ache.

"Are you feeling alright?", Gia asked her.

Liv stood on her feet while pressing her thumb on her temple. "I don't know. I don't feel like myself."

"You've been throwing up a lot these days, you constantly feel dizzy. .", Liv could just anxiously agree with a nod. "And, didn't you say that you haven't had your period for the last three months?", Liv lifted a single nod, now even more terrified. "Do you know what that means?"

Oh, Liv sure does knew. To add up to her friend's conclusions, her moods were all over the place as well, her taste in food were somehow changing and she has been so addicted to Vernon's scent.

"You must be pregnant, Liv. There's no way you're not."

Liv looked at Gia in the eyes, telling her friend through it that she was afraid, that she still didn't know what to feel about it — the possiblity of her carrying a baby, yet, nothing could top the ecstasy on her friend's face.
