《parties // billie eilish》Chapter 75: Polygraph

I'm so fucking stupid. Why did I talk about Kevin like that? How stupid can I be? I literally told an officer that my best friend disappeared and that my other best friend doesn't want to call the police and now they will probably arrest him or something.

''I'm sorry, but I can't answer that question right now. I just want to hear about the boys relation,'' he says, making me roll my eyes before starting to explain.

''They were close. Probably just as close as me and Travis were. I haven't noticed anything weird about them lately,'' I answer, truthfully.

''Okay, thank you,'' he says, writing down everything on his fucking paper once again.

''So, my colleauge would like to do a polygraph test on you, just to make sure that you're not hiding anything. Is that okay?'' He asks, making me sigh before nodding.

''Go ahead,'' I say, rolling my eyes. So they think that I'm a murederer now, or what?

The door opens and a young, blonde woman enters the room with a table with wheels on it. There's a computer and a lot of wires and things that I've never seen before. The woman has bright, blue eyes, full lips and a small pointy nose.

''Hey, my name is Isabel,'' she says with a smile, probably trying to make me think that I'm her friend who I can confess everything to.

''Ember,'' I say, shaking her hand.

''She isn't that much of a talker, this one,'' Ethan says, making me glare at him.

''I will leave you ladies alone now for the polygraph,'' he says as Isabel takes his place in the chair on the opposite side of me.

''I'm just going to pack up a few things,'' she mumbles before opening her computer. As she's plugging in the wires into the small laptop, I start to feel a bit anxious about this. What if my nerves just makes me act different so that they think that I'm lying?

Isabel puts something that looks like a clothespin of plastic on my finger before putting some weird thing around my stomach.

''So, let's start,'' she says when everything is done. ''I want you to take a deep breath before I start to ask some easy questions.''

I nod before taking a deep breath to calm down. When she asks if I'm ready, I nod.

''Is your name Ember Clayton?''

''Yes.''

''Where you born in 2002?''

''Yes.''

''Do you live in Los Angeles?''

''Yes.''

''Have you ever hurt anyone to get what you want?''

''Uhm... I don't think so,'' I say, thinking that her question is weird compared to the others.

''Have you ever hurt a friend of yours because he or she did something to you?'' She asks.

''No. I've wanted to but I find it hard to hurt people to get revenge,'' I answer.

''Have you ever been in a fight or physically hurt someone?'' She asks, creating a lump in my stomach.

''Yes,'' I say, biting my lip as I think about when I slapped Karen.

''Was there a special reason to why that happened?''

''Yes. A girl in my class mocked me about my dead brother so I slapped her in the face,'' I say quickly, sucking in my lips as I think about the bitch who has been hurting me so fucking much.

''Okay. Now to the more hard questions. If you feel like it's too much, just tell me and you can take a paus, alright?'' Isabel says, making me nod.

''Thank you.''

''Did you have anything to do with Travis Mason's disappearance?''

''No.''

''Do you know where Travis Mason is right now?''

''No.''

''Are you lying about the last time that you saw Travis Mason?''

''No.''

''Did you physically hurt Travis Mason?''

''No,'' I repeat with a sigh. This is so fucking dumb, dude.

''Do you want Travis Mason back?''

''Yes! He is my best fucking friend, why would I want him to be gone?'' I ask her loudly, wanting to get out of this room as soon as possible as I feel like smacking everyone here in the face.

''Hey, calm down!'' She says, putting her hand on top of mine. ''There are just a few questions left now, okay?''

''I'm sorry,'' I mumble, taking a deep breath.

''It's okay. Do you want to take a break or can you complete the test now?'' She asks softly.

''Just ask the damn questions so I can get out of here,'' I mumble before leaning back onto the uncomfortable chair. This fucking sucks.

''Okay. Do you think that any of your friends that are here today would want to hurt Travis?''

''Absolutely not.''

''Polygraph test complete,'' she mumbles before taking the instruments off me as I let out a sigh of relief. ''You passed it.''

''What does that mean?'' I ask stupidly.

''That you were most likely not lying,'' she explains before putting everything on the table with wheels again.

''Oh,'' I simply say, not feeling anxious anymore.

''Ethan, you can join us again,'' she shouts and the door opens immediately as the annoying officer enters the room before sitting down next to me.

''She passed the polygraph,'' Isabel explains, making Ethan nod.

''I thought so.''

After a few more questions Isabel and Ethan lets me go out so they can ask the others questions as well. As I'm about to joing my friends, Isabel puts a hand on my shoulder, stopping me.

''I'm sorry, but you can't be with your friends right now before they have been in there,'' she explains as I furrow my eyebrows.

''Why not?'' I ask, just wanting a big hug from Billie so that I can actually calm down.

''Becuase you could tell them everything we asked and prepare them,'' she says before starting to walk the other way, leading me to a small cafe.

''Oh, cause I was planning to do that,'' I say sarcasticly, rolling my eyes as she smiles sligthly. She stop by a chair and hands me a bottle of water.

''You can stay here and wait for your friends now and talk afterwards,'' she says.

''Do I have to be here alone?'' I ask when she's about to walk away.

''I'm sorry, but I don't think that we have anyone here who can keep you company,'' she says, making me glare at her as I suddenly hate her.

It takes a while, but Billie eventually enters the cafeteria, approaching me before sitting down next to me. She looks at me as if she is expecting me to say something but I keep quie while looking at the ground.

''What's up with you today?'' She asks softly, wrapping her arm around my waist before pulling my into her lap.

''Just tired,'' I lie, not wanting her to know the real reason to why I'm distant. She looks at my in a sceptical way but doesn't say anything.

Julia enters the room after a while, sitting down on th echair next to us.

''How did it go?'' Billie asks.

''It went well, what about you?''

''Same here. I gotta go to the bathroom real quick,'' Billie says and I sit up so she can stand up again. She kisses me on the forehead before opening a door behind us with a ''WC'' sign on it. I keep quiet as Julia looks at me.

''Are you okay?'' She asks slowly after a while, making me look at her.

''I feel bad,'' I mumble.

''I know, but if we hadn't called the police, Travis would probably get even more hurt,'' she says as I shake my head.

''I can't lie to them, I'm sorry.''

''We are doing the right thing, Ember.''

Suddenly, the door behind us opens.

''Do you think that a fucking toilet door is sound proof?''
