《》Chapter 9: Meeting Wolves

I spent the night with the Cullen's and they insisted I stay at their house for the day. I had called Charlie and Bella to tell them I was taking a 'mental health' day. Charlie had been a bit hesitant, but let me go. Bella didn't really mind, or, so it seemed.

I was here alone, sitting in the living room in silence. Rose and the others went to school like normal, Carlisle went to work, Esme went to go look at a house and took Chandler with her. It was strange that they had just left me here alone.

I stood from the couch and looked out of the window into the woods. The view from here always amazes me. It's hard to think that, just beyond the woods in front of me, lies a creak with wolves running around beyond it. I'm very curious as to what's beyond the creak.

I huffed, retreating down the stairs and out of the house. I walked straight, slowing my pace as I took in the view as the trees passed. The woods always fascinated me. They were kind of calming, in a way. The nature you could hear from around the area and the bare color scheme was quite breathtaking.

I had finally made it over to the creak. Looking over to the other side, you'd never think there was anything beyond the creak except for regular woods. I looked down into the water below. It was clean and clear, sparkling under rays of sun that peaked through the clouds.

Determined, I carefully climbed down the steep incline. Once I got to the water, I slipped my shoes off and tossed them back up to the edge I came from. I then began walking through the cool water. The water was higher than I thought. It came up to my mid thighs. I was wearing a pair of black pants and a grey t-shirt. I already knew I was screwed. Suddenly, I tripped, falling under the waters calm waves. I pulled myself together quickly and hurried and climbed to the other side of the creak.

Great. Now I'm soaked. Guess my sister isn't the only one in the family who's clumsy. I turned around and started walking deeper into the woods, seeing a sort of path through them. The trees were more close together here than on the Cullen's side. It was darker here. Almost like a rainforest.

I paused my movements as I hear crunching of leaves from all around me. I waited, not moving to see what was staring so intently at me. Sooner than later, wolves started to descend from where they were hidden. A big black wolf stood taller than the others, no doubt that he was the one in charge.

I looked into the wolf's eyes as he analyzed me thoroughly. "Hello." I spoke up, trying to be as friendly as I could. I was basically talking to a brick wall. It let out a huff. I took that as a hello. "I know what you guys are." I stated, getting to the point. The wolf stood still for a moment, seemingly contemplating something.

The wolf nodded and the other wolves disappeared back into the forests depths. A few moments later, men came back in the wolves place. The black wolf then disappeared and then reappeared back just as his friends did.

I looked into the mans eyes and rose my hand, "I'm Genesis Swan. It's nice to meet you." I said kindly. The man paused for a moment before taking my hand and giving it a gentle, yet firm shake. "Sam Uley."

Sam was taking me to his fiancé, Emily's, house. On the way, we talked about things, "How did you find out? Did one of the leeches tell you?" A man named Paul asked. I shook my head. "Not exactly. My friend Jacob had told me how your clan descended from wolves and how the Cullen's were an enemy clan. I had brushed it off as just a story, until last night." I explained.

Sam looked back at me with a questioning look, "What happened last night?" He asked. "My sister and I were jumped by a bunch of boys. Edward and Carlisle showed up to save us." I explained. "The Cullen's saved you?" Another boy, Jared, asked me. I nodded. "I am very close friends with the Cullen's." I stated.

"Then why would you cross the creak into our territory? You know we're their enemies, so why come to us?" Paul asked. "Because there are always two sides to a story. I wanted to know yours." I shrugged. "You actually care to know why we feel the way we do about your friends?" Sam asked.

"Well, yeah. You guys seem cool." I smiled. Sam shook his head with a slight smirk on his face. "Oh, by the way," Jared started, "did you really fall in the creak?" He asked. "I slipped, okay?" I defended. They laughed at me. "Yeah, yeah, real funny." I pouted.

We came upon a nice house in a small clearing. Sam walked in and I followed suit. Walking in, I saw Sam go over and kiss a beautiful woman. I assume that she is Emily. "Who's this?" Emily asked, giving me a welcoming smile. I walked up to her and held out my hand, "Genesis Swan. Nice to meet you." She shook my hand, "Emily, soon to be Uley." She winked up at Sam.

"Congratulations." I told the two. "Thank you. So, what brings you here?" Emily asked. "Curiosity." I stated. "I'm quite adventurous. I came from the other side of the woods." I explained. Emily seemed to think for a moment. I looked up at her and stared into her eyes. I only want to befriend them.

Emily visibly calmed down and smiled once again. "So, you're a vampire girl?" She asked. "I guess you could say that. I do hang out with them, though I didn't know of what they were until yesterday." I explained. Emily gave me a weird look, "That's not exactly what I mean," She started. I gave her a confused look. "I meant; are you mated to one of them?" She explained. Mated?

"What do you mean by 'mated'?" I ask. Emily gestured for me to sit down at the table with the boys. She went and got me a towel before her and Sam sat down in front of me. "Mates are like soulmates, but for vampires." Sam explained. "Really?" I ask, completely intrigued. "From what I understand, the blonde boy and the dark haired girl are mates, the dark haired boy and the blonde girl are mates, and the brown haired boy and girl are mates. That leaves two of them alone." Sam finished.

"Wow." I huff. "Well, no. I am not mated to either Carlisle nor Edward." I felt a bit sad when I said I wasn't Carlisle's mate. I couldn't feel that attached to him, could I? It doesn't matter. I'm not his mate.

"Enough about me," I start, "What about you guys? Do you have mates or something?" I ask curiously. Paul laughed. "Something like that." He commented. "Imprinting." Sam said. "It's like that, but a bit more intense." He explained. "Oh."

"Why do you guys not like the Cullen's?" I ask. "Because their bloodsucking demons." Paul said, rolling his eyes. "You make them sound like monsters." I shake my head. How could the Cullen's be looked at as monsters. "They are. They're made to kill people, Genesis." Emily tried to reason.

"But they saved me. Carlisle saved me twice! And they don't kill people, they eat animal blood, don't they?" I was very persistent. I wanted them to see a nicer side to the so called 'monsters' they were told about. "But what if they slip up?" Sam tried to reason. I rose an eyebrow at him.

I had seen Emily's face. I didn't pay it any attention, but I know he's being hypocritical. "Well, I suppose you have a point, but doesn't everyone mess up at least once in their lives?" I argued. Sam seemed to also see my point. "I'm not here to void the treaty or anything, the Cullen's don't even know that I'm here. To be honest, I'm just here to make friends, really." I smiled slightly.

"We don't blame you. We'd probably all want answers too if we were in your shoes." Emily smiled. "And I'd be happy to be you're friend." She winked. I smiled. "So, what do you guys usually do for fun here?" I ask. They all looked to each other and then back at me. "Wanna go to the beach?"

Sam, Paul, and Jared all walked with me back to the creak. It had been a really long and fun day. We had all played around at the beach and were still cracking jokes about how I managed to push Paul into the water. Emily made me promise to come back, where I happily accepted. These guys aren't so bad. We stopped just before the creak. I could see the Cullen's house from where we stood. The lights were on, signaling that they were home.

"It was nice to meet you guys!" I said as I climbed back to the other side of the creak. "It was nice to meet you too!" Jared called. Paul nodded his head at me and Sam smiled, "You're welcome back any time." We said our goodbyes and they walked back into the woods. I was looking for my shoes but couldn't find them anywhere. I heard a howl from the other side of the creak and huffed out a laugh. Show offs.

Just then I heard a crack from behind me. I turned around to see Carlisle looking at me worriedly. "Carlisle?" I questioned. He didn't say anything, he just came closer and pulled me into a tight hug. I hugged him back as tight as I could. He was obviously shaken up. "Are you okay?" I asked as he pulled away.

"I am now. Rose said she hadn't seen you when they got home and Alice said that she couldn't see any visions of you. I was worried sick." He explained. He pulled me into another hug. "I'm sorry for worrying you." I mumbled into his shoulder. "It's alright. But I have to ask, why were you over there?" He asked.

"I was curious." I said. He let out a deep chuckle an I could feel his body vibrate. Heat instantly went to my cheeks. Why does he have this affect on me? "Come on, we should let the others know you're alright." He said. He took my hand in his and lead me back to the house. He must have my shoes. He most likely went searching for me and found them laying next to the creak.

That night, I went home to find Bella sitting on my bed waiting for me. I looked at her a bit amused. "Wrong room, sis. You've finally gone mad." I laughed. Bella smiled a bit, "Are you okay?" She asks. "Never better. Why?" I asked as I sat down next to her. She stared at me for a moment before speaking again. "Do you know?" She asks. I knew what she meant.

I nodded my head, "Yeah, I know." I confirmed. She nodded her head. "When did you find out?" She questions again. "Yesterday night when Edward drove you away. Carlisle exposed himself to me to protect me." I answer. She nodded her head and looked up at the ceiling, making me stare up as well.

"I love Edward." Bella confesses. I nod my head, not really surprised. "How about you?" She asks, making me look at her yet again. "Do you love Carlisle?" I thought for a moment. He's the only man I've ever felt so close to. He makes my days happier whenever he's around. It sounds like I do. But, I have never experienced love. And my parents weren't exactly great role models for the subject. I sighed.

"I don't know what love is."
