《》Chapter 8: Trust

Carlisle ran faster than he had ever ran before. He could only see blurs as he went past many trees. He could only think of one thing. Her. He had to get to her. He had to save her. He had to protect her.

Carlisle came to a stop in the woods right next to the parking lot. He waited a while, eyes never blinking from the spot. Finally, he saw Bella starting to head towards the parking lot through an alleyway, Genesis right behind her. They seemed uneasy, as if the knew someone was watching them. That's when he saw a group of boys starting to come closer to them. He saw as they started to grab Bella and then Genesis started to fight against them, shielding Bella behind her.

One of the guys stepped up to her and punched her square in the face, knocking her to the ground. That's when he saw red. A car screeched right before he sped over to them. "Get in the car." Edward demanded. Bella stood and ran to the car, trusting that Edward would get Genesis. Carlisle sped right behind the car after Bella wasn't able to see him. He stood menacingly, slowly walking over to the boys.

Edward got back in the car, Bella screaming about Genesis before she saw Carlisle come into view. She didn't understand how she didn't see him, but she had no time to think about that before Edward drove them out of there.

Genesis looked up to see Carlisle. "Carlisle?" She whispered his name, gaining his attention briefly. He saw the tears and blood on her beautiful face, and completely lost all control. He picked up one man and threw him across the parking lot, the man fainting on impact. He grabbed the second boy and threw him backwards, knocking him out on a tree. The last one, the one who hit Genesis, quivered in fear. Carlisle grabbed him by his collar and lifted him into the air.

He stared at him dead in the eyes, glaring right into his soul, before slamming him onto the ground, not hard enough to kill him, but hard enough to knock him out cold. Carlisle breathed harshly, trying to calm himself down. He looked down at Genesis, who had an unreadable expression on her face. Carlisle sighed before he gathered the bodies and sat them on the side of the liquor store building.

Genesis processed what happened rather quickly. Carlisle wasn't human, and he had just saved her from another horrible memory. He kept the boys alive, rather than kill them like he obviously could have. She knew his intentions were good. She didn't know exactly what to say. She trusted Carlisle whole heartedly, though. So she knew he wouldn't hurt her.

Genesis wobbly stood up and looked at Carlisle in his eyes, reading him once again. She saw the worry and anxiety in his eyes. He was afraid. Afraid she might be scared of him and run away. But instead, to his surprise, she walked up to him and hugged him tightly. "Thank you." She whispered.

"You aren't afraid?" He asked back softly, holding her close. "I am." She replied. He pulled away and looked at her sadly. "But I'm not afraid of you." She finished. He looked at her confused. "I'm afraid that I just accidentally found out your secret." She sighed, looked down.

"I knew what I was doing. I trust you not to tell anyone. Just as you trust me." He said truthfully. She looked back up at him, "what are you?" She asked.

"I'm a vampire."

"You know, I had thought about what you guys were once." Genesis said. Carlisle had taken her back to the Cullen house to check on her face in his study. The vampires were surprised to see that Carlisle had revealed them to her. They were nervous when Carlisle arrived with her in his arms. Carlisle had quickly went to check on her before the Cullen kids could even utter a word.

They were now all sitting in the living room. The vampires all sat on the couches as Genesis stood and looked at them, somewhat analyzing them. No one moved. They just sat with their heads down. They looked like children that were waiting for their mother's wrath. Edward had arrived back after dropping Bella off with Charlie. There had been another 'animal' attack and Charlie's friend had died.

Carlisle was called to be there, but, obviously, he was a little preoccupied. "What did you think we were?" Carlisle asked, his head still down. He was scared to look at her. He had revealed himself in the most worst way he thought he ever could. Edward snorted, causing Genesis to smirk and everyone look at him like he was crazy.

"I was told a legend about wolves while at La Push. They said you guys were an enemy clan, so I automatically assumed," Genesis started giggling and Edward tried to stifle a laugh. "You assumed we were vampires?" Emmett asked in disbelief. "No. I thought you were cats." Genesis laughed.

The tension in the room ceased as the vampires started laughing. "Cats? Really?" Emmett laughed. Genesis giggled, "Hey! You can't judge me! It's not that crazy, obviously!" She said as she gestured to them. She calmed down and started thinking. "So, if you're the enemy clan and they descend from wolves, does that mean they're werewolves?" She asked.

The Cullen's all looked at each other, seemingly keeping a shared secret. "I'm gonna take that as a yes. So, why are you enemies? I'm assuming it's not like the stories." She asked, wishing to know more about them. "Our family is different to the rest of our kind," Carlisle began, "we drink animal blood. That is why our eyes are a golden color. We came across the wolves years ago. They agreed to keep peace with us as long as we signed a treaty. We don't harm humans or go onto their territory, they keep our secret." He explained.

"How did it, you know, happen?" Genesis asked, referring to how they became vampires. "My father was a pastor and taught me how to hunt the supernatural. One night, I was bitten and left for dead. I was ashamed at what I had become and hid myself while I transformed so my father wouldn't know." Carlisle stated. Genesis could feel tears in her eyes. He didn't deserve this. He didn't want to be this way.

"I had attempted suicide after losing my child. Carlisle found me and turned me to give me another chance at life." Esme explained. "I had saved a child from a kidnapper. I was stabbed and left for dead in an alleyway. Carlisle found me." Chandler said, smiling over at Carlisle.

"I was dying from Spanish Influenza in the hospital. Carlisle found me also." Edward smirked a bit, just now realizing how much they all really owed Carlisle. Genesis came and sat down in the floor next to Rosalie who had opted to sit in front Of Emmett's legs instead of on the couch.

"Rosalie found me after I was mauled by a bear. She carried me to to Carlisle." Emmett smirked down at Rose. "I was turned in the Civil War by a vampire who used me to help create a newborn army." Jasper explained. "Newborn?" Genesis questioned. "New vampires." Carlisle answered.

"I don't remember much of my human life. I only remember waking up and later finding Jasper and then us finding Carlisle and the others." Alice said. Genesis nodded and then looked to Rose, ready to hear her story. "I was with a man who I believed loved me. I was walking home one night when him and his friends saw me and he dragged me over. Him and his friends had their way with me and left me to die on the curb." Rose stated. Genesis's breath caught in her throat, feeling the girls pain.

"Carlisle found me. I got my revenge on the men one at a time. I've never killed a human since." She finished. "I'm still bitter. I can never have the children that I wanted. But, at least I have the love and family I wanted." She smiled a bit. "I know how it feels." Genesis started, making everyone in the room stiffen.

"To be used that way, and to lose your dream of creating a family of your own." Genesis continued. The Cullen's already knew of what had happened, though they let her speak. She told them what had happened to her arrogant, ten year old self. They all listened intently, as if they were hearing it for the first time. There was a bit that they didn't know, Edward had not gotten to see the full impact it had on the girl.

"I was informed that I would never be able to bare children. That the man had destroyed any chance I ever had when he did what he did." She sighed. If they could cry, they would be. Their friend had a pure heart, that's something they loved dearly about her. They cherished her good nature in their damned world. They felt as if they needed the bright personality in their lives to keep them sane.

But, to know that some monster had dimmed the light, they were furious. Genesis grabbed Rosalie's hand and gave it a tight squeeze. "Though what happened was terrible, the experience made me who I am today. And I believe you guys are the same as us humans. You all have dreams and compassion just like any other human." Genesis said.

The Cullen's were happy that their friend accepted them so graciously. She listened to their heartaches and pain and gave them compassion and love in return. They were almost convinced she was an angel sent to earth because God sought pity on them.

"And you," Genesis began, looking pointedly as Carlisle, who looked back at her in return. "You are one of the most compassionate people I know. You helped all of them through so much, yet I still see you looking down on yourself as if you've done something wrong. Stop it. You've saved literally everyone in this room. Show yourself some respect." She scolded.

The Cullen's all smirked at the two, quickly speeding out of the room to give them some privacy. Genesis didn't even care that they left. To be honest, she was happy to be alone with Carlisle. She knew she was beginning to take a liking to the man, though she would never admit it to anyone. He had helped her three times now. Treated her in the hospital, listened to her vent, and then saved her from history repeating itself. How could she not feel something towards him?

Carlisle was at a loss for words. He was sure that if he didn't love the girl before, after tonight, he knew that he loved her. Every piece of him wanted to tackle her to the ground and show her how much he loves her. He didn't know wether or not to be scared of what he was feeling. It was more intense than it was before. It was like before he was just infatuated with her just because she was his mate. But now, now he feels as if the time they spent together was the reason he felt the way he does.

He actually fell in love with her by his own accords. The bond was what drew him in, but it was her who made him attached. He smiled at her and her heart seemed to stop. It was the widest smile she had ever seen on his face. It was the purest, most beautiful thing she had ever seen. It was then that she silently vowed to herself to see that smile again and again. She wanted to take a picture. They stared at each other, lost in each other's eyes.

"Okay. I will."
