《The Call (Lucy/Caspian)》Chapter 2

"Oh my head." Edmund complained as he rubbed it slowly.

"Shh." Lucy said quietly as she jumped up off the ground, and began to explore the woods, but not before Peter and Edmund decided to follow her before they lost her.

"Wait up Lu!" Peter said excitedly.

"Where do you suppose we are?" Edmund asked behind, which caused the two siblings in front to laugh.

"Are you going to say that every time we get back to Narnia Ed?" Peter teased.

"I meant where are we Narnia." Edmund said as if he wasn't the object of a joke.

Soon they broke through the tree line, and all three of them stopped.

"Spare oom." Lucy mumbled.

Edmund and Peter suddenly stopped looking at each other and gazed up to the lamppost where Lucy held her gaze. All three of them just stared at it. Even though it was just a lamppost, it was the first evidence that they were in fact home. No one spoke as they simply soaked in the magic of Narnia and thinking of their adventures in the great Western Woods.

Finally Lucy turned around and looked at the two boys. "Peter, Ed! We're home!" Tears of joy began falling down her pretty cheeks. They then did what I'm sure you would do if you got to go back to Narnia. They jumped and cried and screamed and laughed. And then to end it, the three of them hugged each other genuinely.

"Oh Peter I wish Susan were here." Lucy whispered sadly.

"I know Lu, she would have if she had chosen to." He answered wisely. Lucy nodded in reply, because she knew if she talked, she would cry, and she didn't want to cry, because she just got to the place where she had been crying for years to see.

Although it wasn't winter, the lamppost always did-and always will- remind Lucy of Mr. Tumnus.

She asked Peter if they could stop by his house and see his grave since they hadn't been able to mourn him properly since they're two previous adventures had been so short. Of course the two brothers agreed, and soon they walked the familiar path to the kind fauns house.

As the brothers soaked in the beauty they had left behind, Lucy thought of all the times her and Tumnus would walk this very path teasing and laughing so many times. She was a girl then, but suddenly, she found herself a grown queen of Narnia. And then she left. I wish I enjoyed those visits so much more. She thought to herself.

As they rounded the last curve, she shook her head, bringing her back to reality.

There it was, Tumnus' house.

The low little meadow and his house hidden in the mountain with a simple steel door as the evidence there lay a warm home inside. She looked to the left of the door and saw the little flower bed she and Tumnus had put in many years ago when she was just a girl, or the remains of it, I should say. She couldn't help going back to that happy day.

"What do you think?" Lucy asked Tumnus as she planted the rose bush in a certain spot.

"Well it's up to you Lucy Pevensie, because, it will be you seeing it when you visit me." He smiled.

"How many times do I have to tell you to call me only Lucy!" She threw up her hands in exasperation.

"Alright, alright, Lucy." He laughed. "But it also depends on where you want it, because I'm not into flowers nearly as much as you are."

"I know but you will, because it's going to look so lovely, your going to beg me to forgive you for ever saying such words." She teased.

He ruffled her short bobbed hair. "I'm sure I will." He smiled. ------

Shaking her head, she looked to the left of the door, where there was a tombstone.

Lucy just stood there, looking at it until Edmund gently touched her arm. Lucy wanted to run, because it was all too much for her.

"Come on let's go look. You can do it Lu." Peter said gently as if he read her mind.

Edmund and Peter put they're hands on each of her shoulders for mental support

As the walked up to the tombstone, they found words carved into the stone.

Edmund read the words aloud.

Tumnus

A kind friend,

A beloved brother,

A loyal warrior and

Knight of Narnia.

RIP

This was too much for Lucy.

Peter held Lucy close as she wept, with Edmund's hand on her shoulder. He had his head down in respect, but Edmund grew to be a quiet man, and never spoke nearly as much as his brother and sister.

"I never got to tell him goodbye." Lucy said in between sobs.

"I know. I know," Peter said consoling her. "But he is in Aslan's country now, and I am sure he is not sad at all." He smiled.

"But Peter, I'm sure he was heartbroken when we left." She looked up at him with pool filled eyes.

"Yes, but so was the whole country." Peter said truthfully.

She knew it was true. But if only she had been able to say goodbye to her best friend.

"We were the best of friends." She sobbed as tears flowed down her face.

"I'm so sorry Lu." Peter said softly.

"I just miss him so much. Oh I would give anything just to be able to see him once more!" She cried out before she began wracking sobs against Peters chest, and it tore her older brothers apart seeing her in such agony.

Peter for once did not know what to say, so he squeezed her tighter giving her some comfort in his big arms.

He looked at Edmund not knowing what to do. Edmund did not disappoint as usual.

"Do you want to look through his things inside?" Edmund offered changing the subject. Their plan ended up working somewhat.

"Oh I couldn't bear it," Lucy cried. "but maybe some other day. I need more time." She said quietly.

"Of course." They said in unison.

"Perhaps we shall head east to get to the village where Cair Paravel used to be. So we can get out of these clothes." Edmund gestured to his clothes, then Peters sweaters and tan colored pants, as well as Lucy's light pink sundress which clung to her curves and small waist nicely, without showing anything improper.

Peter and Edmund looked at their sister for approval trying to get her in a lighter mood.

She sniffed and wiped her tears. "Alright." She said quietly.

"Alright! Off to the eastern ocean we go!" Peter exclaimed happily.

They soon set off, and the further away they got from the fauns house, Lucy's mood indeed did brighten. Though Peter was now twenty four years old, and Edmund not far behind, being twenty himself, something happened in Narnia each time they came back. They never hesitated when they urged to play like children.

Call it what you will, magic, Aslan's presence himself, or the fact that they felt at home, no one never understood why. So once they reached the shuddering wood they soon broke through the tree line in which there was a small creek that led to a small lake in the middle of the wood. They used to play in it quite often in The Golden Age, or at least every time they could get away from the castle. So upon reaching the peaceful lake, they played in it for a long while and all the joy and magic they had missed returned once more, and they had many water fights with each other and drank the clean fresh water -for there is no other water like Narnia- and relaxed on the bedside of the shore in contentment while drying up in the warm sun.

"Edmund I bet I can hold my breath longer than you can in the lake." Lucy dared suddenly with a smirk.

"Yeah right, I always beat you when we played here." Edmund answered competitively.

"Alright Peter will be the judge of who wins." Lucy replied.

"Fine." Edmund answered seriously.

While Lucy removed her freshly glossed shoes, Edmund removed his nice shoes and stockings.

Peter stood on the bank amused as his siblings waded into the water. After Lucy and Edmund stood beside each other in waist deep water, They looked up at Peter ready to start.

"Welcome ladies and gentleman to the annual-"

"Oh come on Pete, we just want to start." Edmund cut in frustration.

"Any last words Ed?" Lucy smiled sweetly.

"Yeah. I would like to say that it's been an honor being better at everything than my little sister." He said with a smirk causing Peter to laugh. "Alright you two, ready, set go!" And with that they both took a deep breath as went under water. It was silent for sixty seconds, but suddenly Edmund came up choking on water. "She tickled me!" He complained. Lucy emerged the water grinning. "I won." She grinned.

Peter laughed heartily. "Looks like our sister outsmarted you Ed."

"Well I-" Edmund was cut off by a horse neighing nearby.

"Shh. Get out of the water quietly." Peter said sternly, immediately alert.

The two slowly came out of the water but not before they were seen by a group of armed men on horses.

"Come out of the water slowly." Said the leader with a deep baritone voice.

As soon as Edmund and Lucy joined Peter, the commander asked. "And what business do you have in the Shuddering Wood immigrants?" The leader asked gruffly.

Peter first looked at his two siblings, then later looked up at the man on the big horse.

"We were making our way to the Eastern Sea." He said simply, not saying anything about who they were, for Peter did not yet know if he was a telmarine or not.

"And who in the name of Aslan are you?" The leader asked as if reading his mind. "If any of you are from Harfang, your heads will be detached from your bodies at the strike of dawn."

"I am no Harfangian, but only Peter and my two siblings, Edmund and Lucy." He said looking at them. They both nodded. A moment of silence followed as the big man on the horse analyzed Peter with the utmost scrutiny.

"You're the High King Peter." The leader said finally. "My apologies, your majesty." The man got off his horse and bowed to each of them. "I've heard many great things about you." He said solemnly. "I am Thatch, General of the Narnian Calvary."

"Hello General, it is a pleasure." Lucy said as she curtsied in her wet dress with a soaking wet head.

"Thank you Milady." He bowed again.

"If you do not mind me asking, how long has it been since we were last seen in Narnia?" Lucy asked innocently.

"Three years highness." Thatch answered.

"So Caspian is still king?" Peter asked slowly.

"Of course. We have been searching for you. And Caspian said we would find you in the western parts." General Thatch declared.

"Then take us to him." Peter commanded.

"Of course your majesty."

Lucy and Edmund grabbed their shoes and stockings, and began walking through the lush green wood with the group of Narnians. After a fifteen minute walk, Thatch assured them. "Just a little longer, your majesties." After five more minutes of walking, they saw a small clearing and near the fire, Lucy saw the one person she never thought she would see again.
