《The Call (Lucy/Caspian)》Chapter 3

They all stared at the back of their dear friend, who at the moment, looked like he was giving orders to some of his soldiers near the fire. Lucy and Edmund were very happy to see Caspian of course, but they hadn't missed him nearly as much as Peter had.

Caspian and Peter had not always gotten along, because both felt the other was trying to become king of Narnia when Lord Miraz stole the throne. But towards the end of that adventure, they became the best of friends, and they were inseparable. Peter had thought he and his siblings were going to stay in Narnia, with him and Caspian as high kings, but Aslan had other plans. Plans that Peter, Edmund and Lucy still could not adjust to.

"Caspian?" Peter finally yelled.

Lucy saw Caspian talking, but when he heard Peters familiar voice, she saw him practically freeze. He slowly turned around, and once he saw Peter, Lucy saw the joy come to his face.

"Peter." He said calmly as he walked towards the three. When Caspian got face to face with Peter, he said something all of them were not expecting.

"You look older." He said bluntly with a smile.

"So do you." Peter smiled back as they both hugged each other for the first time in five years.

"Oh come on Peter it's my turn." Lucy smiled.

Caspian and Peter laughed, and then Lucy practically jumped into Caspian's big arms as soon as it was vacant.

She had missed him deeply, they had always thought alike and they were as close to each other that they could have been brother and sister. Caspian had always told her his greatest worries, even from the beginning. He often sought her out when she was younger, and displayed his worries and asked for council from her. Particularly when he was trying to defeat Miraz. On the Dawn Treader, they became closer of friends and Caspian even told her things she knew he had told no one before. On the long days of sailing, the two would sit in his quarters and he would tell her the deepest strains of being King. He had always told her she was the best listener and kindest friend.

"It's so good to see you Caspian." Lucy smiled genuinely as she broke the embrace and looked into his face astonished at the difference three years had done to him. He looked so much older, as if he had aged more than three years. And he did look far more handsome Lucy noted, with his jawline more squared, his shoulders broader and dark stubble on his neck and chin making him looking more rugged.

"I'm glad to see you as well Lucy. But tell me why are you soaked?" He asked curiously.

She looked down and suddenly remembered the events that had occurred.

"Oh me and Ed were simply having some fun." She laughed genuinely and Caspian chuckled. "Well each of you look so different." He thought aloud as he analyzed each of them from head to toe.

"We're not the only ones you know." Edmund smirked.

"It's good to see you Ed." Caspian said with a laugh as he embraced the dark complected Pevensie.

"How long has it been since you've been here?" Caspian asked them.

"Three for me and Lu, and five years for Peter." Edmund explained.

"It's been three years for me as well. I was hoping you wouldn't be ancient when I called." Caspian teased.

"Why did you call?" Edmund asked.

"I'll explain once we get back to Cair Paravel." Caspian replied evenly.

"You rebuilt Cair Paravel?" Lucy asked, her eyes wide with shock.

Caspian looked at her with a smile. "Yes, the professor had most of the layout hidden away in his study, so we rebuilt it in the honor of our former kings and queens. But you shall see it soon enough, are you not hungry?"

"Oh my gosh we're practically starved!" Lucy exclaimed.

"Yes as Lu pointed out, we have missed Narnian food immensely." Peter said with a grin.

"Then what are we waiting for?" Caspian half-asked.

"Uh for you to ask." Edmund said bluntly with a grin, causing all four of them to laugh like old times.

As the four of them ate their supper around the fire, They laughed and teased each other about when they were younger, while Caspian's men seemed to know they needed their space and ate their supper far away.

They stayed up late that evening and laughed and laughed until their sides hurt.

Eventually they became so exhausted from laughing, that Caspian decided it was time for sleep.

"Get some rest, we have a very long day if we are to reach the castle tomorrow." he said calmly and gave them different colored silk blankets to sleep on near the fire.

Thirty minutes later, Caspian, Peter, and Edmund were sound asleep, While Lucy remained awake, gazing at the stars, near the remains of the fire late that night. She remembered looking up at the Narnian constellations when she was a girl, and found herself thinking of England every time. As she was looking at them once again for the first time in three years, she found herself thinking of England once again. She thought of Susan and her mum and dad, she knew she missed them, but she knew she was where she belonged, in Narnia. She let out a contented sigh.

I'm finally home.

And soon after, Lucy Pevensie slipped off into a deep and glorious sleep.

"Wake up Lu. We have to get to Cair Paravel before sundown." Peter said shaking Lucy's shoulders.

"Wha- what?" Lucy said as she sat up quickly. "But it's still dark." She complained as she laid back down and pulled the silk cover up to her chin. She let out a sigh and closed her eyes.

"Oh no you don't." Said Edmund as the two brothers yanked the covers off of her.

"Are you ready to go?" Caspian asked coming to their area where they slept.

"No Lucy won't wake up." Edmund complained.

"But I was having a dream about Aslan." Lucy said in defense, her eyes still closed.

"We have to go Lucy." Caspian somewhat commanded, and then turned around and started walking toward his leading general, but not before he heard a very unlady like groan.

She always did like her sleep on the Dawn Treader. Caspian chuckled at the memory when he had been in search of queen Lucy at noon on one of the many days while on the Dawn Treader, when he had been told she was yet asleep in her chambers.

He remembered he hadn't believed that someone could sleep so long, so he decided he would see for himself.

He walked into her chambers fully expecting her to be awake, or yet not even in there, but in fact it surprised him when he saw her sprawled out across the bed, her hair a tangled mess, and when he got close to look at her face, he saw a puddle of saliva on her pillow and a stream coming down her face.

He thought of Lucy as a little sister so he didn't think twice before bursting out laughing, the deep noise causing her to stir.

"Caspian, wha-what's so funny?" She had asked him dreamily, smearing her drool all over her face with her hand, and when she sat up, her tangled matted hair looked even crazier, causing Caspian to laugh harder.

"Caspian what's so funny?" She asked, more aware this time.

"You! Hav-have you looked in the mirror lately?" He said laughing at his own joke.

"You've been hanging with Edmund too much." She said hardly listening and laid back down again snuggling with her covers.

"And you've been hanging around in your bed too much." Caspian said with a grin, turning away from his surrogate sister, and left her chambers to get on with his day.

She hasn't changed a bit. Caspian thought smiling to himself as he went in search of Thatch, his leading general, but was totally blind in seeing how much the little queen of Narnia had actually changed.

Caspian and Peter rode in the front of the path with Edmund behind Caspian and Lucy behind Peter, following close behind while Thatch and the rest of his men followed behind in pairs.

"Hello there." Lucy said sweetly as she patted her speckled mares neck. "Can't you talk?" She begged.

"It's times like these that I miss Philip," Edmund said to Lucy. "He was such a good companion to me."

"I'm afraid we just have dumb horses today Lu." Peter said ahead of her, ending the subject.

Peter and Caspian were always talking, talking about anything and everything. Edmund and Lucy had grown a lot closer growing up and they talked about many things, but with Caspian and Peter, there never was a silent moment. When Edmund, Peter and Caspian were talking of the population growth of the country, Lucy's mind wandered off. As she looked at the forest near the dancing lawn, she thought of her dear friend Tumnus and thought of the time when they always had the annual spring dance at dancing lawn, where every Narnian-whether they be centaur or Minotaur- was invited to the annual Narnian tradition. She remembered she had just turned fourteen and she had to practically beg Peter to let her go to the dance, and since Peter had such a soft spot for his little sister, she ended up getting her way in the end. When the dancing started, Susan already had suitors of every creature lined up just to dance with the queen, while Lucy sat wondering alone why she had come at all, when her dear friend Tumnus walked up and-"Lucy!" Caspian said interrupting her thoughts.

"What?" She asked mad he interrupted her beloved memories.

"I was just telling Edmund and Peter about the time on the Dawn Treader when you slept past midday." Caspian looked back at her with a smirk.

"Oh really," she said smiling, getting into it since he was trying to embarrass her. "Because the way I remember it, I was awake studying maps the night before, which by the way you asked me to do, and when I finally get to go to bed near dawn, I fall asleep and then I am awoken by absolutely horrid morning breath only a few hours later!" Lucy said with her English accent. "Which meant that you had just woken up." She smiled truthfully, happy at the outcome of teasing her surrogate older brother.

Caspian looked at her and held a playful grudge on his face. "Touché." He said and exhaled loudly.

"Of course I do." Lucy smiled with a wicked grin at Caspian, causing all four of them to laugh at the playful fight.

They all enjoyed the familiar scenery as they journeyed east towards Cair Paravel in comfortable silence. They ate lunch quickly near the stone table, and kept journeying east. They talked for hours about nothing, and soon they approached a forest.

"This is the last forest before we reach the castle." Caspian promised.

"We remember what Narnia looks like Caspian." Edmund teased.

"Well I just wanted to be sure." Caspian answered. The forest was much bigger than Lucy remembered. Well it's because I would always run my horse through here to get to Tumnus' house. Lucy remembered.

"Lucy can't you hear I'm talking to you?" Peter said exasperated.

"I was thinking sorry." She apologized.

"We were wondering if you needed to stretch your legs." Peter explained. "We are very close, but it has been a long while since we have taken a break." He finished.

"I very much want to see the castle please."

Lucy said excitedly.

"Alright." Caspian said. "We are very very close."

And he was right, they broke through the tree line of the forest in less than an hour, and there on the horizon you could see the glimmer of the castle, with a beautiful sunset behind, and the fresh smell of the Eastern Ocean.

"Oh!" Exclaimed Lucy. "Caspian it's beautiful!" The king chuckled.

"I thought you might say something like that. But come, there is much to see."

I'm finally, finally home.

Thought Lucy as she excitedly followed Caspian and her brothers toward Cair Paravel.
