《Whodunnit 2》Chapter 3 - All Balls In

After the twelve guests adjourned back to the great room, Giles alerted them that they now had time to discuss what they found before the next stage of the game.
Kristina & Troy immediately huddled together and discussed what they found. Being brother and sister it was obvious that they would discuss their findings, they didn't want each other to be killed anytime soon.
"So at the rooftop pool, there was this sun lounger, but it wasn't normal. It had a timer on it, and once it reached zero it flipped up. Meaning that any person who would have been on it would have been flipped off the balcony." Kristina described what she found at the crime scene. "Oh yeah there was a broken glass bottle as well."
Troy went next "Well you would have never guessed it, but Aubrey was actually shot."
"Shut up! No way! But I never heard a gunshot." Kristina was shocked, to say the least, once she heard the news that Aubrey had been shot in the stomach. She knew there must be a lot of hidden clues in these murders which would happen during the game.
Troy then brought up the situation that they had no idea what happened at the last known whereabouts. They both knew they were going to have to get someone on their side who investigated the last known whereabouts. Taking their chances, they approached Jeremy. Guessing that the director was the more intelligent one rather than Chantal, Mary & Colton.
Jeremy was luckily on his own, and Troy & Kristina had an ease with approaching him.
"Hey, Jeremy. How are you?" Troy greeted the director first.
"I'm okay I guess..." The director shrugged. "Just trying to stay alive y'know?"
"Exactly." Kristina sat down next to Jeremy. "That's why we're proposing a plan. We feel that in this twisted situation, you really need to form an alliance to cover every area. That way you get all the information you can."
"So you want me to be in your alliance?" Jeremy asked.
Kristina nodded.
"Ok, I'm in! Well at the last known whereabouts there was a massive blood spot. I think it's fair to say that she died there. However, there weren't any tennis balls. So that tells me that she couldn't even have played tennis before she was killed. Also in the bushy area away from the tennis court, there was a tennis buggy, it was in pretty bad shape. There was also loads of dried blood in the back seat of the buggy, so this shows me that the killer drove her to the rooftop pool and then drove the buggy back."

This revelation by Jeremy sent Troy & Kristina into relief. They now knew almost exactly how Aubrey was killed, except for where the bullet actually came from. With the time that they had left, the brother and sister discussed what they found in their areas. Then, with only a small period of time left, they decided to add new people to the alliance. They felt that Colton, Brett & Chantal were the most trustworthy people in the resort. And they wanted them on their side.
Although Brett had his doubts at first that he could trust Jeremy, he knew it was better to be in any alliance instead of being in none. Colton & Chantal joined with no doubts.
Meanwhile, another alliance was also being made.
Grace, Cecilia & Kendra were probably the most polar opposite guests, yet they found themselves to have this undeniable bond. And they all trusted each other. Grace & Cecilia knew that Kendra was probably the dumbest guest, yet they knew that she could use her looks to probably manipulate the information out of some of the male guests.
This left Mike, Mary, Paul. They didn't make an alliance, however; they instead trusted that they could make accurate theories on their own.
It was 5:30 PM when Giles came back into the great room. He ordered the twelve guests to follow him outside. And eventually, they did.
-
Giles had two cards in his hands. He started reading the first before the last guest even made it outside.
"Following each murder, a riddle will be revealed. The riddle will give you a further insight into how I pulled off the murder. If you find the answer to the riddle, then you will be almost guaranteed to survive until the next day. Giles will now read you the first riddle of this game."
Giles then transitioned to the second card.
"I am a luxury to a professional, and can even be quite a peculiar confessional.
I shoot and I shoot until I am empty, normally I am then refilled plenty.
Finding me will unlock the mystery of how Aubrey was killed, there's no doubt that once you find me you'll be undoubtedly thrilled."
Some of the guests looked very confused after Giles finished reading out of the riddle. However before they could walk away from the butler, he let them know that there was a little clue to help them. Sophie & May (the maids) handed the guests all a tennis ball. It looked like a pretty normal tennis ball and felt normal too. So the guests were even more confused after that clue.

The guests all split up in different directions. The group of Troy, Kristina, Jeremy, Colton, Brett & Chantal strolled back to the great room and started theorizing where to look.
The group of Grace, Cecilia & Kendra decided to go up to Aubrey's suite. As far as they knew no one had been up to the room yet, so it was highly plausible in their minds (mainly Grace & Cecilia's) that the killer could have placed something in the deceased guest's room without anyone noticing.
And as for Mike, Mary & Paul, they just aimlessly looked around the resort. Mary even stopped looking at one point to get a drink from the self-service bar.
-
After kicking down Aubrey's suite door, Cecilia took the lead in looking around the room. While she and Grace looked in the bathroom in Aubrey's suite, Kendra aimlessly bounced the tennis ball supplied to her, thinking maybe that bouncing the ball around would unlock a clue.
Grace ran the tennis ball under the bathroom skin. But nothing changed on the tennis ball. Cecilia had the idea squashing the ball, but with it being almost rock hard, the Cuban knew it was no use trying to destroy the ball.
"Why is this so hard?" Kendra sighed.
"Maybe we're just looking too hard?" Grace suggested.
-
Meanwhile, the group of Troy, Kristina, Jeremy, Colton, Brett & Chantal were putting together clues in the great room. Brett had the idea of adding up all the numbers on the tennis balls. But the number of 36 had no correlation to anything they had suggested.
Jeremy tried to think of what things professionals would do on the island. He knew that there were several pools, but he knew that tennis balls had no relation to a professional swimmer. He also thought of the golf course which was on the island. But again, he knew that tennis balls had no relation to gold players. The balls were completely different.
Then suddenly, it hit Jeremy. There was a tennis court on the island's grounds, it made Jeremy feel stupid how a tennis ball was even supplied to make it more obvious. He quickly let his group know before taking off for the tennis court.
Luckily, before the group could even step outside, they noticed from the window of the side entrance that there was two free tennis buggy's. Jeremy took the role of driving the first buggy and had Kristina & Troy as the passengers. Chantal drove the second buggy and had Brett & Colton as her passengers.
Within six minutes (going full speed on the buggy's) The group of six arrived at the tennis court. They instantly knew that they were at the right place as the whole tennis court was completely laid out differently. There was twelve tennis ball machines lined up, each with twelve cardboard cut-outs of Aubrey in front of them.
The group of six each got out of their buggies and charged for the machines.
Underneath the tennis ball slot at the back of the machine, a button stating 'push' was sticking out like a sore thumb to the guests. Immediately upon pressing it, a mysterious object darted out of the machine, a pierced the Aubrey cardboard cut-out in the stomach.
"Woah!" Colton exclaimed as he ran towards his Aubrey model.
Troy bent over next to his model and pulled out the bullet which was stuck in the model. He noticed that it was the exact same bullet which he pulled out of Aubrey's belly button. He and his group had solved the riddle.
The Heaven Honour Resort bell rang throughout the entirety of the island. For the other six guests, it sounded like the worst sound of their life. Because they knew that that meant that they hadn't solved the riddle. And that meant they didn't know for sure how Aubrey was killed.
They each had their fears that one of them was going to be killed next.

Dear Inspector, Please accept this letter as my formal resignation from being a Player. Hey! Laugh all you want, but I had to try. With no rules down here, who's to say that I can't resign? Anyway, my reasons are simple: I'm neither a gamer nor a hero. You got the wrong person for the job. Sure, the pay is decent and I could pretty much live like a king if, you know, I wasn't so busy trying to survive. I have major concerns about the demonic dagger bound to my soul too. Come to think of it, I've never asked to be transported to this fantasy land either and would like you to return me home, thank you very much. I don't want supernatural powers, I don't want to complete quests after quests, and I don't want to be your test subject anymore. What? I'm not whining, you're whining. Stop making excuses and let me leave already. Thank you for your understanding, and I hope you'll find a better replacement after I'm gone for good. Sincerely,Randel, the Mad Painter What to expect from Synergy: --> Some GameLit elements are presented subversively. If you want the protagonist to “play the game” properly, this might not be the story for you.--> No filler chapters; the story's structure is already plotted out. It's going to have six story arcs.--> Character development happens slowly, over many chapters. Don't expect a perfect protagonist right off the bat.--> Some romance, but it will never be the main focus.--> Humor and dark elements in equal measure, but not to the extent that I’d label this story as “Comedy” or “Grimdark”. ... and lots and lots of Author's Notes. See you on the other side of the portal!
