《Edge of Glory | Supergirl 1》Chapter 12

Leah lightly pushed Winn with her shoulder, the couple holding hands and walking the streets of the city. She made sure that she was not using her super strength while doing so, but it still seemed to have still made him groan. "I am so sorry."
Winn lifted his free hand to rub his shoulder, "It's uh-" He grimaced, "Fine, maybe we should work on that."
Leah looks down with a smile, lifting her head to look at him, "Yeah, I've been working on that for a long time, my mom almost found out once." She released a laugh, "I slapped a mug off the table as a kid and it went flying out the window."
Winn snorts, covering his mouth, "Please tell me it was her mug."
"Oh it was." Leah nods, "She was so mad that I broke it she didn't even notice that it basically flew." She paused, leaning her head into his arm, "We always talk about me when we're together, I want to hear stories about you."
Winn pursed his lips, thinking, "Well, there was the time that Katie lit out house on fire."
"Didn't that happen recently."
"No, I'm talking about when we were little." Winn says, "We got into this huge fight over what we wanted to eat for dinner that day, and Katie really wanted to eat hamburgers. But we got hot dogs instead, she was so mad that she lit the house on fire."
"How? Like with a match?"
Winn tilted his head into Leah's, "I-I actually don't know how. We didn't have any matches..."
"Was she near the oven?"
"Maybe." Winn shrugs, "I'm not entirely sure anymore."
"Any other interesting stories that do not involve house fires?"
"I broke Katie's arm." Winn states.
"You-why?"
"We were little and playing with these stuffed toys." Winn explains, the couple pausing to sit down at a bench, "I was swinging one of them around in a circle, and Katie told me I was hurting it. Well, I told her she was wrong, and she wanted me to prove it to her. So I grabbed her by her arm, and swung her around."
"Which caused you to snap it."
"Yeah, it broke like in between her wrist and elbow too. She would not stop crying, and I felt so bad. Luckily she got better real quick."
Leah shakes her head, "Reminds me of the times I spent with Kara on Krypton."
"Yeah, you never told me any of those stories."
"How about I tell you the time when my mom was chasing Kara and I around in her room." Leah begins, "She was acting like a monster, chasing us around, I ducked under the table, but Kara slipped and slammed her head against the corner of it."

"Ooh." Winn winced, "Was she okay?"
"She got right back up, as if it never happened. But we could always tell because there was a dent in the table."
"Her head made a dent?" Winn laughed, wrapping an arm around Leah's shoulder.
Leah put her head on him, "Yep, we would nonstop tease her about it."
"I'm going to start as well." Winn's eyes fell on her, "There was a time when Katie got lost at a fair. Man, my dad was freaking out, searching for her everywhere. I was the one to actually find her, you see the whole day she was talking about playing on that 'walking on water' ride, or whatever. So I kept trying to get my dad to go that way. Which she was there, inside one of those balls, running around."
Leah paused, pulling her head away from him, "You've never spoken about your father before."
Winn's smile falters, realizing what he had said, "Yeah... Well, we're not close anymore."
"You don't have to tell me if you don't want to." Leah spoke up, knowing how hard it could be, she didn't even want to think about her real father, he was a kind man for so long until he began to despise the rulers of Krypton.
"No." Winn shook his head, "If we're going to date I need to tell you." He doesn't meet her eyes, "My dad he uh, he killed 6 people with a bomb planted inside of a toy. And was sent to jail when Katie and I were still kids."
Leah grabbed his hand, giving it a squeeze, actually not hurting him, "Winn, I'm so sorry."
"Don't be." Winn released a strangled laugh, "It was a long time ago."
"That may be so, but it still affects you."
"Thank you Leah." Leah sat up abruptly when she heard the sounds of distant screaming, "Duty calls?"
"Winn, I'm sorry-"
"No, go save them."
Leah knelt down and kissed him, flying into the air and leaving her clothes behind on his lap, she landed in front of one of the Red Tornadoes, grabbing it by the hand, forcing it to halt before it could attack Lucy and James. "Do not harm these people."
Leah threw it back into the other Red Tornado that Kara just fought, watching as they both created actual tornadoes. They walked out, almost smirking at the two heroes. Leah and Kara let them fly away, going after the tornadoes to stop them from destroying the whole city. They each took a tornado and flew the opposite way around it. Leah had to duck past some items spiraling her way, she cried out, flying as fast as she could until the tornado was no more. Leah breathed heavily, floating in the air where the tornado once was.

"Well, nothing's broken." The doctor at the DEO states, checking on Lucy, "She's lucky."
"You both saved my life." Lucy looks at Kara and Leah, "Thank you."
"Of course."
"You let that thing get away. I thought you were on our side."
"We tried." Leah states, "It fought harder this time, faster."
"Like it learned a thing or two from the last go." Kara snaps, annoyed with the man.
Lucy looked at the two, "It's like it knew you'd choose to save those people. The tornado was just a diversion to get away. He used your humanity against you."
General Lane glowered down at them, "And now more innocent humans could be in danger. If anything else happens, you and the DEO will both be held accountable."
"That's enough, General. My team analyzed Red Tornado's dermal covering. It's made of a biosynthetic polymer which contains traces of lead. To suppress X-ray vision, right? The android wasn't meant to fight insurgents. It was designed to kill Kryptonians." Leah stood up straight by his words, eyes flickering over to the General.
"You've got Fort Rozz aliens locked up downstairs. Monsters. Abominations. Some of them have wings. Some have horns. And others spit acid. Do you know the difference between them and these two? They're blonde."
"They saved you and your daughter, tonight. You don't owe them fear and contempt. You owe them a thank you." Kara and Leah look at each other and smile over at Henshaw.
Leah turned her head to Lucy, who gave her a sympathetic look, before following her father out of the DEO. She shook her head, watching as Alex came walking in, "Maxwell Lord just called. Said he saw you on the news fighting Red Tornado. He wants to talk to me."
"Don't." Leah states, "I really, really don't like him."
"Well he's one of our best shots to track this thing."

Katie held her hands up, "Okay, so how is this supposed to help me?"
"We've made an entire room fire resistant, that could handle the heat of the sun. This is where you'll be training from now on." Vasquez states from outside of the room on the loudspeaker.
"One problem, every time I use my powers I light my clothes on fire. I'd rather not sit naked again."
"That is why we've made you a suit."
Katie nods her head, "Okay, where is it?"
Vasquez opened the door, holding up bright red fabric, "Right here, we thought it would be ironic if we made your suit similar to Kara's but with the same colors as Leah's."
Katie laughed, taking hold of it, "I'm not a huge fan of skirts."
"Well, we're not making you a new one. This fabric was a pain in the ass."
"Okay, okay. Let me get it on first." Katie walked off with Vazquez into one of the supply rooms to get dressed. She pulled her normal clothes off and looked at the suit again. It really was the same as Kara's suit style, only big difference was the colors were red and gold, like Leah's, and there was no giant 'S' symbolizing their house crest. It even came with boots. After getting the suit on, Katie walked out, Vasquez waiting for her.
"It fits well."
Katie messed with the skirt of the suit, "I still think this is not necessary."
"Eh, Kara and Leah will be pleased with it." Vasquez shrugged, "Now come on, Henshaw wants to make sure you're in control of your powers."
Katie nods, pushing her glasses a little further up her nose, "Totally." She blinked a couple of times noticing how her vision was getting really blurry, "What the?" She took off her glasses and rubbed her eyes, putting them back on, but everything was still extremely blurry.
"What's wrong?"
"I can't see."
Vasquez extended her hand, "Let me see your glasses."
Katie handed Vasquez her glasses only to be able to see without them on, "Uh... Nevermind, I can see."
"With...out your... glasses?" Vasquez pursed her lips, "Must be one of your weird powers. Oh! And your blood results came back if you wanted to check those out after your training."
"Could we look at them now?"
Vasquez contemplated for a minute, "Sure."
Katie smiled happily, following Vasquez down the hall, when she suddenly saw Lucy and General Lane, having a heated conversation with Henshaw. "Oh God-" She moved behind Vasquez, not wanting them to see her.
"Is this another one of your aliens you have hidden in here?"
Henshaw looked over and saw that Katie was in her suit, "As a matter of fact, she is not an alien. We just got her blood results back."
Lucy looked at Katie, "And what does she call herself?"
Katie opened her mouth to respond, but was too surprised that they did not recognize her without her glasses on. Vasquez spoke up, "Solar Flare..."
General Lane pursed his lips, "Fantastic, more of these things running around."
"Like I've stated before, she is not an alien." Henshaw pointed at the screen, revealing Katie's blood samples, "As you can see she has an extra gene in her body, which we named the X-Gene. She was born human, but has an extra chromosome."
"Making her what?" Lucy questions, eyebrow raised, "A mutant?"
"Precisely. She was born this way and I believe she found out her powers, through a traumatic experience."
"And what was that?" General Lane looked over at Katie, eyes scanning her over.
"She was caught in an explosion." Vasquez explains, "Which most likely triggered her mutant abilities."
General Lane shook his head, "And I thought our planet had enough freaks inhabiting it."
Katie glared at him, "Wow, and I thought our planet had enough dicks inhabiting it." She snapped, not appreciating his comments. Vasquez had to cover her mouth, because she truly wanted to laugh at her comment.

The Head That Wears The Crown
It's a tale as old as time. Boy goes to funeral. Boy gets sucked into a different world. Boy has to lead a settlement. Boy has to lead a settlement? Boy has to lead a settlement. This is a story about that settlement, and some other stuff. Maybe. Disclaimer: Not sure if it qualifies enough for a gore tag. There is a description of someone's death somewhere in this, but I don't think it is descriptive enough to justify a gore tag. Disclaimer part deux: I initially started writing this as background for another story but got so into it I just ended fleshing it out a bit. Disclaimer part tres: People love reading disclaimers don't they? It's why I've included so many. They're just for you. Disclaimer part four: I know, this is getting egregious. You're starting to find it less funny. Just wait till the twentieth disclaimer, it will start being funny again. Disclaimer part five: I'm kidding, this is the last one. I don't promise I'll read every comment or message, but I certainly welcome your feedback. Disclaimer part six: I lied, it wasn't the last one. I wrote this story without breaking it down into chapters. It just goes, that means that the chapter ends when it ends, not when there is a convenient break in the story. That means that it's very annoying for you as a reader since chapters can end mid sentence. Hah! Sucker! Disclaimer part seven: Get ready for slow updates. Who knows when this will continue. Toss it on read later and come back in fifty years. Disclaimer part eight: Cover Photo by Arthur Ogleznev on Unsplash
