The group turned and their eyes widened in horror. Floating out of the submarine was Shaw, dead and Erik following him. The retched helmet now on their friend's head and not the enemies. Evie's eyes fell to Charles' who was approaching the group. He looked scared. As she looked back to the flying mutant, she could only wonder what he had in store for them.

"Today our fighting stops!" Erik announced, showing off Shaw's body for everyone to see.

"Oh my god." Evie whispered, tears in her eyes from all the emotions raging in her head. Shaw's body dropped, hitting the floor like a rag doll. Erik lowered himself to the floor, looking to all the mutants on the beach.

"Take off your blinders, brothers and sisters. The real enemy is out there." He stated, pointing his finger to all the ships that were converging together. "I feel their guns moving in the water. Their metal, targeting us. Americans, Soviets, humans. United in their fear of the unknown. The Neanderthal is running scared, my fellow mutants!" He turned to the telepath who was now walking in time with him. "Go ahead, Charles. Tell me I'm wrong."

Charles' fingers dropped in horror, his breathing becoming uneven as he realised that Erik was right. Why did he have to be right? He looked to Moira, wordlessly telling her to go and stop them but Evie knew that it was too late. They were going to die.

In a flurry of explosions, missiles from all the ships, Russia or American, were fired. Evie's eyes widened at the sight. It was a full blown attack on the beach. It was now that she realised what fear could do to people.

The missiles soared towards them, none of the mutants moving because they were frozen with fear. From their place in the beach, it looked like the end of the world. Erik held his hand up and the missiles paused in the air, freezing only meters away from the sand. However, Erik didn't just let them fall. He turned them back around.

"Erik, you said it yourself. We're the better men. This is the time to prove it." Charles urged him, glancing back at the missiles and seeing them facing the ships. "There are thousands of men on those ships. Good, honest, innocent men. They're just following order." Charles practically begged his friend to stop, it was so clear.

Yet, it was also clear that Erik didn't care what Charles said, he had made up his mind long ago.

"I've been at the mercy of men just following orders." Erik responded, his eyes dead and full of anger. "Never again." Without a second of hesitation, the man sent the missiles flying back towards the humans.

"Erik release them!" Charles screamed at him in desperation.

Suddenly, Charles' words rang out in Evie's head. Something that she finally understood. "Detonate the grenade." She muttered to herself. What Charles meant was that she had to imagine a pin on something and in order to explode what she wanted, she had to think of it like a grenade.

Instantly, she ran forward and away from her friends. "Evie!" Alex tried to grab her but he narrowly missed her hand.

Her feet slid to a stop, her hands flying upwards as she focused on the missiles. They were just bombs, right? Which means they were laced with explosive powder. All Evie needed to do was find it. And she did.

The missiles slowed in the air making Erik and Charles look at her in confusion. Her feet were being grabbed slightly by the force of Erik's push but she was slowing it down. Charles used his moment of confusion to slam into Erik, knocking him to the floor.

Unexpectedly, the missiles came under Evie's control.

She pictured in her head the missiles as grenades, a pin firmly in her head. With great difficulty, Evie managed to move her right hand and flick her wrist as if she was pulling out a pin. Like fireworks, some of the missiles exploded.

With no time to admire her work, she quickly tried it again, a few more exploding this time. However, Erik held his hand up again, pushing the missiles back towards the humans. Evie's feet began to drag along the sand, practically pulling her with them.

Charles tried his best to get the helmet off Erik only to get a punch in response. Yet, this gave Evie enough time to explode some more. It was a race against time and currently Erik was winning.

The man stood away from Charles, taking the remaining missiles from Evie making her cry out in pain. She hadn't done this before and with her destroyed arm, it was proving difficult. "Erik! Please stop!" She begged him, hoping he'd listen but her words went unanswered.

A bullet ricocheted off the metal helmet he was wearing which gave Evie time to take control of the missiles once again, making them slow down. Erik turned to Moira, deflecting all the bullets she fired at him until one hit something. Or rather, someone.

Once bullet lodged itself into Charles' back making him soundlessly cry out in pain. Evie's eyes widened in alarm, her mind no longer on the missiles. She let out a large breath and all the missiles exploded simultaneously.

Erik ran to Charles, no longer worried about the humans anymore, and pulled the bullet out of his spine. "I'm so sorry!" He told his friend, holding him in his arms. Everyone moved to come closer but Erik just screamed at them. "I said back off!" His hateful glare turned to Moira. "You! You did this!"

With a twist of his hand, Moira's dog tags began to strangle her, chocking all the air out of her lungs. "Moira!" Evie screamed in panic, rushing to her friend. She ignored the pain as she used her left arm and tried to pull the metal away from her neck, tears starting to stream down her face. She couldn't lose another friend.

"No, no! No!" She kept repeating like a song, trying desperately to save her partner's life. Fear was present in her eyes, tears falling down her face. "NO!" Evie shouted loudly and in despair, trying not to give up. She couldn't give up. Suddenly, the tags dropped and Moira began to gasp loudly, gripping her neck where a red line had started to form. Evie grabbed her friend's face, making sure she was okay. "Moira."

"I'm okay." Moira reassured the brunette breathlessly, taking large gasps of air to fill her lungs again. Evie looked over her shoulder to Erik, her expression hardening but it was so clear to see the tear streaks that ran down her face.

He stared at her for a moment before motioning to come forward. Her eyes cast down to the brunet laying in the sand and she ran to him, placing his head on her lap as she began to brush the sand off his face.

"Charles!" She called out, watching as his eyes moved to hers. She knitted her brows together, a soft yet sad smile on her lips. "Charles, you're going to be okay."

Moira quickly joined the pair, her eyes desperate and thankful he wasn't dead. "I'm so sorry."

"It's alright." Charles gave her a tight smile before looking back to Evie. His eyes lit up as he remembered what she had done with the missiles. "You did it."

"I did it." She repeated, her smile widening as she looked down at him. "I couldn't have done it without you." She told him, pushing the hair out of his face gently.

"The society won't accept us so we from our own." Erik began to speak which made Evie's eyes flutter with annoyance. "The humans have played their hand. Now we get ready to play ours. Who's with me?" There was silence, no one dared to speak up. Erik's gaze turned to Raven and he offered his hand to her. "No more hiding."

Raven began to step forward however her path changed and she knelt down next to her adoptive brother. Instantly, Charles grabbed her arm, sadness in his eyes as he began to tell her what she wanted to hear.

"You should go with him." He groaned out, his voice full of pain. "It's what you want."

"You promised me you would never read my mind." Raven remarked sadly, her voice cracking slightly.

"I know." Charles sighed as his eyes fluttered. "I promised you a great many things, I'm afraid. I'm sorry." He kissed her hand before Raven kissed his head. Her eyes turned to Evie.

Evie gave her a sad smile, not knowing if this was the last time she'd see her friend. "Take care of him and yourself." Raven said which made Evie nod. The blue women now took Erik's hand and stood next to him. "And Beast? Never forget, mutant and proud!"

And with that they disappeared. The remaining mutants rushed towards the professor, making sure he and the two women next to him were okay. Charles tried to pull himself up using Hank but the man pushed him back down again.

"Charles, don't move. Okay?" Hank told him, Charles screamed out in pain as they all crowded around him.

"I won't." He reasured them when suddenly his face morphed into an expression that made Evie worry. "Actually, I can...I...I can't feel my legs!"

Evie's eyes widened as she looked at her friends in alarm. "What?" Moira questioned, hoping she had misheard him.

"I can't feel my legs!"

And it was that day on the beach that changed everything because for Evie, life would be so much more enjoyable. And it all started with one man.
