《Explosive Thoughts | Charles Xavier [1] ✔︎》16 | Things Are Looking Up

When the mutants arrived at the hospital, they found out that Charles had been paralysed from the waist down. Not only that but Evie had dislocated her right shoulder, fractured her arm in three places and crushed most of the nerve endings in it. She would get better but it would take a lot of physical therapy.
A week had passed since Cuba and most people went their separate ways for a while however, Evie stayed with Charles for a while after all, according to the CIA she was on leave. So the two lovers were wandering around the gardens of Charles' mansion (Evie pushing Charles' chair).
"Moira got demoted and promoted in the same day." Evie relayed the information that Moira had told her to Charles which made him chuckle lightly. "She's basically doing the same thing."
"And you?" He asked her, looking over his shoulder. Evie smiled at him, stopping him and walking around so she could face him.
"First official day back tomorrow. I had a much needed two weeks off, did a lot of thinking." Evie joked which made Charles laugh, Evie smiled at the sound. It had been ages to Evie since she had heard him laugh, it was nice. "I guess I go back to hiding now. I'm lucky no one in the CIA knows I'ma mutant."
"Lucky or cursed." Charles muttered to himself, not expecting Evie to hear him.
"What would you consider it to be?" Evie questioned him, raising her brows at him and a teasing smile on her lips.
"Maybe lucky, considering you still have your job." Charles explained with a smile, leaning back in his seat. "However it is cursed because if you didn't have a job, I would convince you to stay with me."

Evie couldn't control the loving smile that formed on her face. She bent her knees so that she was at eye line with him. "And I would love to stay Charles, I hope you know that." She told him, her hand brushing his cheek, he gently melted into it. "But they're putting me in the mutant division, I need to do this so I can redeem myself. Any mutant I find, I'll send your way or help them disappear."
"I understand Evie, I truly do." He told her, grabbing her hand and holding it tightly. "I want you to be happy."
"What about you and the school?" She quickly changed the subject to him. "How many students do you think you'll have here, once you get it up and running?"
"As many as I can manage." Charles answered, staring off into the distance as he envisioned his dream school. "Possibly more."
"You know, one day the government is gonna realise how lucky they were to have Professor X on their side." Evie smiled at him, standing back up and placing her hands behind her back.
"Yes, I suppose I am a real professor now, aren't I?" Charles finally realised which made her chuckle softly. "Next thing you know, I'll be going bald."
"Yeah please don't do that." Evie responded instantly which caused Charles to laugh, not expecting the quick response.
Charles' expression dropped to a serious one quite quickly, looking to the ground the back to the brunette. "We're still on the government's side Evie. We're still G-men, just without the G." He told her with a soft tone.
"I'm a G-man." Evie pointed at herself with a smile. "You're an ... X-man." She quickly made up which caused him to chuckle at the ridiculousness of it.

"I like the sound of that." He smiled but as he realised what he needed to do, he ended up savoring the last glimpses of her smile. "Evie, I hope you understand that for us, anonymity will be the first line of defense."
"I know." Was all Evie said as she grabbed his hand, meeting his eye line once again. "They can threaten me and Moira all they want, Charles. I'll never tell them where you are. I care about you too much to put you in danger for my job." She told him with a sweet and reassuring smile.
"I know and I care about you too." Charles admitted softly.
They both lent in and closed their eyes, their lips pressing against each other's once again, molding perfectly and sweetly. Yet it was a bittersweet feeling for Charles, he couldn't hold onto this, it was selfish. As the two parted again, a lone tear fell down his face as he pressed his fingers to his head.
"I'm so sorry Evie." Was the last thing that Evie heard before she blacked out.

"Dalton!" Evie heard the Senator's voice call out her name. The brunette paused in the corridor, turning around and seeing the man standing there. "You hear what happened to MacTaggert?" He asked her.
The whole of the CIA had heard of Evie's climbing incident which caused her to get trapped under a rock. This caused all the injuries on her arm but truthfully, she didn't even remember that.
"I heard she couldn't remember anything Sir, is that true?" She quickly responded, an amused smile on her lips at his annoyance.
"Indeed it is. It seems like you're the only good agent we've got around her." He huffed which made her bite her lip to stop her from saying something she'd regret. "Did you really have to go on leave for the last two weeks? We really could have used your help."
"Sorry but I needed it." Evie apologised instantly. "I met some new people."
"Oh yeah? Any of them memorable?" He asked her curiously.
Evie thought about it for a moment, her mind going fuzzy for a moment. It was strange, she could see people's faces but couldn't think of any more then that. However, her mind got stuck on one particular face, a man's face. His striking blue eyes and dark brown hair made her expression drop. She blinked herself back into the room.
"No sir." She answered, not remembering any of her two weeks off.
"What a waste of time then." The senator blew it off. Evie began to turn and walk away when the man called out after her. "Oh and Dalton," The women turned to face him. "The DOD are looking to headhunt you."
Evie raised her brows, disbelief filling her eyes as she thought of the Department of Defense wanting to hire her. "They are?"
"Just keep it in mind." The Senator nodded before walking away, leaving Evie alone in the corridor.
Maybe things were starting to look up for Evie. However, there was a hole in her heart and little did she know, she would be searching for the piece to fix it for years to come.

The Anthology
This is my collection of short stories. I ask what stories would my audience like to read and write whatever they post in the comments. I strive for more than two dimensional characters and I like to make my stories somewhat unique. The first six entries are my experiment to just write without stopping and see what comes out. They can serve as an introduction for the reader to me as a thinker and writer. Although it should be known that the majority of those entries were written in a foggy state of mind. Entry seven is where my short stories begin.

Faeos Book One: The Stuff of Legends
A ragtag assemblage of adventurers, scraped together by seeming circumstance, investigate the theft of an ecologically essential artifact. In so doing, they find themselves embroiled (as adventurers so often do) in the larger machinations of a mischevious gnome, a determined mage or three, and a dire threat to their homes. Based on a homebrew Pathfinder campaign begun several years ago, and still running. Faeos is one part combat, one part character building, and one part entirely justified silliness. Blame any lead character weirdnesses on my players, whom I love. Blame everything else on me. Oh, and yes, this should also be tagged "Unreliable Narrator."
