《Foolish (TomHolland x Reader)》4| Ebullience

"So we have everything ready, right?", you walk into the kitchen with a large picnic basket hanging from your arm. Tom and Harrison had packed sandwiches, snacks and drinks, ready to be neatly placed in the basket hanging from your arm but to your dismay, the two started stuffing the basket, not even caring if the snacks got crushed.
"Everything's ready now", Harrison cheered, only to earn a hit on his head from you. "Ouch", he rubbed the back of his head while looking at you with a pout.
"Freakin' idiots", you shook your head, a smirk gracing your lips as you turned around, hearing Tom laugh in the background.
By the time it came for you to decided who's car you'd take, you decided on Harrison's car since yours was new and wasn't fit for driving up a hill on dirt.
"Why can't we take your car instead? We never drove in it!", Harrison complained, crossing his arms.
"Because my Tesla is brand new and I don't want her to get scratches", you smirk, turning around and getting into the car along with Tom, not even bothering to call out shot gun since you and Tom had silently agreed that you'd sit in the back together and taunt Harrison.
The rest of the car ride consisted of singing along to the radio at the top of our lungs- especially to old school One Direction. Tom would occasionally elbow me in the rib cage when he had a voice crack and Harrison and I would laugh out loud. Tom would Zone out in the conversations you and Harrison would be having and you'd have to hit him on the head to bring him back to concentrating.
"We're here!", Harrison cheered as he stopped the car on top of the little hill you'd usually come to for a day off or a simple picnic with the Holland's.
"Calm down mate, it's a normal picnic", Tom chuckles as he gets out the car, helping you down in the process as well. You mumble a little thank to him before leaving his side to join Harrison with helping to take out the picnic mat from the trunk.
"You're lucky I let you keep Tessa home", you yell, loud enough for Tom to hear "you know I love when she joins us for picnics"

"Oh shut up, darling. It's not my fault she was sick", Tom reasoned, appearing by your side and helped you carry the surprisingly heavy basket. The three of you then organised the picnic in a not so quiet silence. The short period of time was filled with sly glances and pushing each other playfully and lots of giggle. When you were finished with laying out the packs of food, you laid down on the grass between your two best friends, hands behind you head as you watched the clouds.
You were shot back into your childhood memories again, back when you didn't have to worry about your job and your taxes and back when Tom, his brothers and Harrison didn't travel for filming and movies. Back when everything was normal and you didn't have to worry about anything. You missed your childhood, no matter the amount of bullying you faced and the embarrassing moments you had, you missed it. You missed having no worries and sometimes, you'd wish that you could be like the animals in Lion King- Hakuna Matata. Back then, all you knew was laughing with Tom, his brothers and Harrison or crying back home because you got bullied and your best friends weren't there to defend you.
"It's weird to think that we know exactly what Tom is doing and all his fans think that he's probably still touring", you turn to Harrison, knowing that Tom would be craning his neck to hear what you were saying.
"Yeah, for some reason I feel special", Harrison jokes, earning a punch in the arm from Tom. "But now they'll know where Tom is if you put that on your story, (Y/N)", he points to you when he finds you taking a boomerang to post on your story.
"Oh, it's not like people know I'm your friend-"
"Best friend, you mean an I'm pretty sure the whole world knows you're our best friend", Tom cuts you off, making you put your phone down in defeat and respected their choice. You knew that he was right. You knew that his fans knew that you were close to him and they knew you were practically like family to them. The fan pages for you, hate pages for you and the fan art they make of you and Tom was proof. It took you around a year or two to get over the hate pages but it was alright in the end.

You also knew that Tom needed his privacy and didn't want everyone to know what he does in his life. He wanted his family life and love life to be separated from the spot light and you couldn't agree more with him. You wouldn't want paparazzi to follow you around and take pictures of you and you wouldn't want people to start unwanted rumours and drama. It was exhausting to keep up with and you saw it first hand a few months ago when Tom went to hang out with Olivia. The two were friends and hadn't seen each other for a while and they decided to meet up with Harry and Tuwain as company. You were asked to come but unfortunately had a little work to complete.
"How the hell does the signal reach over here?", Tom grumbled when you heard his phone ring, getting up and moving away from you and Harrison to answer the call from his manager.
"He's always so busy", you mumble under your breath, seeing Harrison nodding from the corner of your eye.
"Rising star, what do you expect? He's going through a lot more ever since Uncharted lost its director. And not to mention the drama with Liv. I mean, he got his dream role and meets a lot of famous people but I don't think he ever felt this level of stress", Harrison was startled when you suddenly sat up, not being able to def the shouting you were hearing from Tom.
"Why isn't he talking to me about this?", you whisper, eyes wide laced with disbelief.
"He doesn't want you to get worried, just like how you didn't want him to get worried when you were bullied while he filmed The Impossible", Harrison shushed you, making you feel even more uneasy.
You didn't deny it, he was right. You did hide a whole year of pain from him while he was having all the fun. You made Harrison promise that he'd never say a word to Tom about how that year went. He was just lucky he got to skip almost a whole year of school and almost missed his 10th exams.
"But this is worse", you reasoned "if he can't handle the stress, he should talk to someone"
"He talks to me about it, don't worry", Harrison assured you but you still shook your head, flinching when you heard Tom scream into his phone again. "No, it's ok", he cooed, pulling you towards him and wrapped his arms around you in comfort.
Harrison wanted to tell you how you were weak as well and couldn't handle the negative attention you were getting from school and from the public but he kept quiet. You were young at that age and it made sense to keep a few things secret, despite knowing that Tom would slit Harrison's throat open when he finds out and for keeping your secret. Now, all of you were mature enough to talk about these issues and Tom knew that, but he refused to tell you that he was stressed because he knew that you had to deal with stress as well. He knew what it was like to get hate from fans and what you were getting was a whole other level.
"He's coming back", you mumble against his chest, pulling away with an assuring smile gracing your lips. A smile telling him that you'd be alright.
"What are you two up two, hugging each other?", you hear Tom's voice ringing in your ears, surprising you in how cheerful he sounded. It still amazes you in how amazing of an actor your best friend was and sometimes, you'd make jokes about it saying that you never expected someone as dumb and childish as Tom to do so good in success.
"Nothing, just catching up", Harrison smirked, earning the middle finger from Tom and you ended up pulling Tom to sit down and hit him on the head for that move.
"Ok ok sorry", Tom laughed, holding onto your shoulders for support "anyone up for a game of tag?"
And the rest of your evening went just like that, running around the hill in laughter, just like when you were 12.
