《the human (r.h)》three; walking in the wind

It was fair to say that Delilah George was not looking forward to arriving at home. She knew that her parents would be expecting her to have learnt something about Isabella Swan, but the truth was she didn't know anything more than before she arrived, apart from the fact that Edward Cullen seemed to think she smelt bad.

In reality Delilah didn't really want to snoop around in the new girls business, she seemed like a sweet girl and she truly wanted to be friends with her.

It was becoming tiring just talking to people to learn all she could about them.

As the two George girls pushed the front door open they parted ways, Maya going up stairs to sort out her stuff for tonight and Delilah making her way to the kitchen were she could hear her parents talking. She mentally prepared herself as she neared the room, she really didn't want to have this conversation with them right now.

"Hey mom, dad." Delilah walked over to her Tommy who was sat on his computer at the table, pressing a kiss against his cheek before walking over to Nia who was stood at the island and doing the same. "How were your days at work?"

This was the usual exchange whenever she got home from school, it had been this way since she was small. Delilah and Maya had been raised to respect their parents, they were raised to obey in a way. They didn't want to suffer the consequences of not doing what they were told.

"Just the same old, sweetie." Nia and Tommy both smiled over at their daughter, Delilah knew they would be sweet with her no matter how angry they were. She just didn't want to disappoint them.

The brunette smiled at the two "Thats good then." She walked around to the cupboard, grabbing a chocolate bar from it before continuing. "I befriended Isabella Swan today."

This turned her fathers interest away from the screen in front of him, his whole body now turning to face Delilah "And?"

The girl shrugged in return "Not much really, she's too quiet and shy to know much right now. But I'm sure I can find out more soon."

Nia hummed at her words "You better."

The brunette didn't reply to her mother, instead she just nodded her head. She knew the conversation was over, if she were to say anymore they would just argue.

Instead Delilah left the room, normally these conversations would go well, her parents would praise her for doing such a good job. However that was only if she actually did find something out. When she didn't find anything out it often left Delilah in a bit of a fool mood.

So instead of going upstairs to see her sister like she usually would, she left the house, wanting to be anywhere but home.

Maybe that was what her problem was, it wasn't really her home. Sure she lived there, grew up there and spent almost all her time there, but she didn't feel like she belonged there.

Probably because she didn't.

It was no secret that Delilah George wasn't actually a George. The family had adopted the girl when she was five, saying her previous family had died in a horrible fire. Obviously Delilah didn't remember this, and while she was bothered that she didn't have her real parents, it was never really something that she got upset about. She thought it would just be like crying over strangers.

Of course Delilah was thankful that the George's had adopted her, she didn't know where she'd be without them. They'd given her a gift and she could never thank them enough for that. They were her family, maybe not biologically but she did feel like they were her blood.

The girl had been walking for well over twenty minutes, she'd long since entered the forest, which was easy enough to do seen as her house was in the forest. Her family were very private people, so it only made sense for them to have a house so far away from everyone.

This was obviously great for Delilah, she'd been walking the same route of the forest since she could remember. When she was little she once went wondering and stumbled upon a waterfall. It was only a small one, it ran into a medium sized lake, then there was a little stream. Delilah had been swimming in it many times, always without Maya. Just because it was her spot, just for her where she could be by herself.

Once she had reached the waterfall she moved to sit down near it, she found it relaxing to sit and watch the water as it fell. Sometimes it would comfort her, but today wasn't one of those days.

Today was a day where everything had just gotten a little too much for the girl, she needed to be by herself. She needed to let it all out.

It wasn't a very Delilah thing to cry, being anything other than confident was something she hated. She hated being sad because it made her feel weak, she hated being happy because she felt like she didn't deserve it.

So to sit in the middle of the woods and start crying was something very unordinary for her.

She'd just let the first few tears fall when she heard a twig snap behind her. This caused the brunette to stand up, her heart pounding heavy in her chest. She expected to there to be a beast stood behind her, watching her from the trees. But as she looked around, she quickly realised that wasn't the case.

"Hello." As the girl spoke, Delilah whipped back around, quickly wiping her tears away. "I was just taking a walk and I heard someone. Are you okay?"

Alice Cullen watched as the brunette took deep breaths in, she'd been following her since the human left the house. It was something Alice always did when Delilah went wondering in the woods, just to make sure that no harm would come to her.

Once Delilah had controlled her breathing she answered Alice. "I'm fine, thank you."

The brunette had hoped that the Cullen would had left after that, however, much to Delilah's dismay, she didn't.

"Are you sure? I don't mind staying with you."

Delilah had never been in this kind of position. Even though her and Maya were close, they never really shared their feelings with one another. No one had ever properly been there for her, so she wasn't really sure how to react to it.

"Why do you want to stay with me?" She didn't mean to come across so harsh, but she really wasn't sure how else to act.

"Because your upset." Alice still had that same happiness in her voice as she spoke and Delilah could imagine the smile that the pixie girl usually held on her face.

Delilah rolled her eyes, even though Alice couldn't see "I'm not upset."

"Then why are you crying?" Alice knew that the conversation was going to go this way, not that she minded, she knew that Delilah didn't really know how else to act.

"I'm not crying..... it's hay fever."

At this Alice walked over to the girl who still had her back to her. She placed a hand on her shoulder, a small smile resting on her face. She believed Delilah just needed someone to be there for her.

"You don't have hay fever."

For some reason, once Alice had pulled her body into hers, Delilah couldn't help but let the tears flow freely down her face. She knew that in the morning she'd completely regret this and would struggle to even look in her direction at school tomorrow, but right now Delilah couldn't find it in her to care.

"I-I'm sorry." She managed to speak through her tears, feeling like she needed to apologise for getting Alice's top wet.

"Don't apologise." Alice only hugged the girl tighter to her. "I don't mind."

Of course Alice had hoped this would happen, she'd seen it happen, but it was all down to Delilah on if it actually would. The vampire was thankful it had, it was important that the brunette knew that she had someone there for her. That she knew that even though she felt like she was completely alone, she wasn't really. This would be essential if the things that Alice had seen were to come true.

"The Swan girls hard to befriend you know." Delilah wanted to distract herself and Alice from all the tears she had just shed, and by changing the topic to the one thing they'd spoken about, she felt like it would do just that.

"I do know that." Alice loosened her grip as she spoke, although not letting go of her completely.

"I would like to think I'm friends with her, but I'm not sure." Delilah laughed slightly as she spoke "She doesn't talk very much. I think she's very private."

Alice also laughed slightly before she spoke "Just like you then."

Delilah removed herself from Alice's hold, a smile on her face as she spoke "Hey! You're just as private as me, if not more."

"Not true, everyone knows I have siblings."

"Everyone knows I have a sister too. And they know I'm adopted."

"They know I'm adopted."

The two girls just stood staring at each other, smiles on their lips as they did so. It seemed that Delilah almost forget about her problems and her life as she stood there with Alice Cullen. For once she felt like a normal teenager.

"Thank you Alice. You didn't have to do this, you could of just carried on with your walk."

"Nonsense, I hardly did anything."

While that was true, what she did do meant everything to Delilah. No one had ever just held her like that before.

"You did more than you think."

Alice just smiled at the girl before bidding her a farewell, she knew this was where the conversation ended. Delilah was feeling ten times better and Alice was needed at home to discuss a few things with her family.

As Delilah walked back to her house, she couldn't help but have a small smile on her lips. While it didn't really seem like the Cullen had done much, what she had done meant the world to Delilah, she didn't feel like she was alone anymore. And while Alice might never speak to her again, she would cherish this moment for as long as she could.
