《Modded Reality》Chapter 19 - Better Combat

Lonzak creates piles and piles of planks and pops them into his inventory. He then strips the branches and sharpens the ends of them. He places the spikes all around the grassy field surrounding the burrow.
“Well, my home was quaint.” Wilton stares at Lonzak.
“You want me to kill monsters, right?” Lonzak asks bluntly.
“Yeah, sure.” Wilton rubs one of his arms.
“Then we wait till nightfall.” Lonzak nods.
Lonzak takes a stone pick from Wilton and heads to the quarry. He breaks apart stone until night falls. Wilton on the other hand takes the acorn flour, turns it into two dough balls with water and salt. He then cooks the two dough balls.
Wilton reheats two bowls of soup. He brings a bowl of soup and a piece of bread to Lonzak. The orc looks at the food suspiciously and then looks at Wilton’s portions.
“What is this?” The orc asks.
“If you are fighting, then you need your strength.” Wilton says.
“Fair enough.” Lonzak accepts this reasoning and takes the food.
They both eat and head back to the burrow as night falls. Wilton takes the deer hide, the bone needle, and some plant twine. He sews a pair of leather pants for the orc. The halfling pads the crotch with wool to avoid chafing.
Lonzak and Wilton stand atop the burrow. Wilton has lit three torches around the burrow and has kept the fireplace inside burning to create ambient light from the burrow. They wait as night falls and darkness crowds in around their lights.
Within minutes a figure stops at the edge of the torchlight.
The two watch as the figure lurches forward. Rotten flesh and a decaying body. Some sort of humanoid creature suffering from necrosis. It groans as it stumbles towards the burrow.

Lonzak roars and charges the undead. He slams his ax down on the creature's shoulder. It swings its arms as Lonzak raises his shield. He is knocked back by the creature, but the shield absorbs the hit.
The halfling tosses his spear at the zombie as Lonzak swings his ax again. Both attacks land. The zombie stumbles back. Lonzak quickly follows up with another strike and beheads the undead. Its body collapses to the ground. Dead.
There is the sound of more groans from the darkness. Coming from different sides of the burrow. An arrow flies out of the darkness and slams into the orc’s shield.
“Into the burrow!” Lonzak backs up towards the burrow as three more zombies emerge from the darkness.
Wilton jumps off the burrow and he quickly opens the door to his home. Lonzak moves into the burrow after the halfling. They slide the door back into place. The orc has to duck inside the burrow, but he quickly finds his way into the interior.
“Tomorrow we will be more prepared.” Lonzak says.
“Oh, for sure.” Wilton sighs.
The two lay down on opposite ends of the burrow. They both drift off to sleep with the warmth of the fireplace. And the white noise of undead clawing at the entrance.

Azarinth Healer
A new world with nearly unlimited possibilities. A status, classes, magic and monsters. Sounds good? Well, for Ilea it didn't come quite as expected as for some other protagonists, nor was there a king or god to welcome her. The grand quest? Well, she might figure that out someday but for now, a new world with new food is prize enough. Her fists at the ready, she's prepared to punch and get punched, however long it takes and however many limbs she might have to regrow. A story I've started writing now quite a while ago. Transported to another world, somewhat standard fantasy setting with my beginner attempts to make it dark but funny. There are Litrpg elements here but I do hope it's not too heavy and annoying. The fights should be interesting and aren't just numbers vs numbers. Contrary to the title the protagonist will be quite an offensive fighter. Ilea Spears is your average sarcastic kick-boxing fast food worker and soon to be student. She will be transported to another world rather conventionally and will be confronted with survival in the wild. Give it a shot and let me know what you think. My experience is incredibly lacking. If you find yourself hating it early on, do convey your anger in a detailed comment or review :) I want to get better but without any feedback it's simply quite difficult. Quick heads up: Around chapter 120 there are a bunch of longer PoV changes that I discontinued again shortly after. The Arc around chapters 150-200 is darker than the rest and the themes shift quite a bit. Just know that it goes back to what you've come to know after that section. Thank you for reading. Quick update June 2019: Many complaints regarding the formatting, specifically spacing in conversations and of course the usage of the present tense in the first 36 chapters have been addressed. I'm of course learning by the day but compared to how it was before it should be an improvement at least. Chapters usually around 3k words Cover art by Kevin Catalan

Decay and Deception
One day you can be relaxing, the next you can be somewhere beyond reality struggling to survive. This is one such story, a story of pain, fear, and triumph. Join the main character as he conquers an alternate reality full of humanity's worst fears. Wandering through floor after floor of things from our worst nightmares, he continues downwards endlessly in search of escape. [A story heavily inspired by the backrooms, all but one of the floors are my own ideas pulling basic inspiration from various sources. A huge shoutout to my friends who helped me with a few of the floors and the motivation to write this.] Warning: this story will cover heavy themes of loneliness and horror. If you are adverse to gore, psychological horror, or general dark tones, continue at your own discretion.
