《Phantom Trooper》Arc 2-Chapter 15 (Ugly truth part 1)

24th of March 2011
Batman, Turkey
NATO HQ
18:00
Kill team Nemesis has returned to Turkey. Their assignment, while not followed through as instructed, was a success. Yet, this didn't feel right. The whole team had this strange feeling. Maybe... hate. But hate for them selves.
Everything Yuri said, about them, about them getting in the way, about this team being unnecessary and a waste of time, was true.
They might have killed a lot of terrorists but at the end, Yuri was the one that finished the mission and killed the targets. They were... pointless.
Currently, everyone except Yuri was in the room they shared.
Franklin was scratching his head as he walked towards his bead:"Ok... What the hell was that?!"
Carla:"I'll tell you what that was. That was fucking badass!"
Franklin:"This isn't the time for jokes! Did you see what happened there?! He took out the targets without our help! Everything he said was true! We couldn't do shit!" He punched his wardrobe and left a hole in it.
Victoria:"Well I mean, I wouldn't say that. We did shoot a few men before they could shoot him. And Takeshi hacked the cameras so we could see inside the building."
Takeshi:"Victoria is right Frank. At the end of the day this was a team effort. Just cause he delivered the final blow doesn't have to mean we're useless. You can't let that discourage you."
Franklin calms down and sits on his bed.
Carla:"Plus, those bigass explosions you made did a big number on the enemy base. If it weren't for that, a lot more enemies might have been focused on you."
Franklin sighs:"Yeah, ok. Thanks. Still... He was basically right. He could've done everything by himself. Maybe we-"
Carla:"Aaurgh stop saying that! Man you're getting annoying! It's done get over it! It's not like he's gonna rub it in your face when he gets back."
Victoria:"Where is he by the way?"
Takeshi:"He said he needed to take care of something in the armoury and then report everything back to colonel Mustafa."
—————————————
(Meanwhile)
Colonel Mustafa's office
Yuri is standing in front of Mustafa's desk while he's reading the papers regarding the mission.
Mustafa:"Well this is... peculiar. Got anything to say?"
Yuri:"At the time there was no other option to consider. The designated targets arrived prior for the scheduled time and there was no way for us to regroup and strike them in time."
Mustafa:"I disagree."
Yuri:...
Mustafa:"You could've waited for them to get pass the gate, run towards your team and breach the building. You had time, they weren't going to finish the meeting in under a minute. You acted on your own volition and decided to run in and blow them up with a bow. You think you're John Rambo or something?"
Yuri:"Permission to speak freely?"
Mustafa:"Granted."
Yuri:"I do not know who this John Rambo is but judging by the way you speak I assume he uses a tactical compound bow with explosive arrows. And assuming this, he would agree with my decision of executing the targets."
Mustafa:"Elaborate."
Yuri:"While it is true that Gunnery Sargent Franberg and I could have regrouped with Strike team and breached into the building, that would result in casualties. We would have eliminated our designated targets but the building would have been surrounded by enemy troops and we would not be able to escape. Captain Jones had already placed explosives on nearby structures in order to cause distortion and distraction, allowing them to escape. Statistically, this was the course of action with the best possible outcome."

Mustafa chuckled:"Well then, I guess that's that. You're dismissed."
Yuri salutes him and exits.
Mustafa thinks:"He truly is remarkable. The way he thinks and operates, leagues above anyone else. He might just be the one."
Yuri walks down the hallway and enters the room with the rest of Kill team Nemesis. They were pretty on edge since the last mission. Yuri walks to his wardrobe and opens it to take his clothes.
Franklin:"So what did Colonel Mustafa want?"
Yuri:"He wanted a report on the mission."
Victoria:"And?"
Yuri:"I gave it to him."
Carla:"What did you say to him?"
Yuri:"I told him what happened. That there was no other option."
Franklin:"And what did he say?"
Yuri:"He compared me to a man named John Rambo. I did not understand."
Everyone in the room starts laughing.
Yuri:"Did I say something amusing?"
Carla:"Dude... John Rambo is a movie character."
Yuri:"...What?"
Franklin:"John Rambo is a fictional character from the movie franchise called Rambo. He's a war veteran with insane military capabilities and guerrilla warfare. He uses a bow and arrow so I guess it makes sense he compared you to him. But, how do you not know that?"
Yuri:"I have never watched Rambo."
The whole team:"WHAT!?"
Yuri:...
Victoria:"It's a classic."
Carla:"How is this possible?"
Takeshi:"No no no no no this so unacceptable." He opens his laptop and finds Rambo,"Here. You're gonna sit here and watch Rambo with us."
Yuri:"But we need to prepare for-"
The team:"SIT!"
Yuri hesitates but sits down and watches the film. They will spend the next few days watching the movies.
————————————
8th of April, 2011
Kill team Nemesis was in its room. They discussed the Rambo movies they watched. Four of them still couldn't believe the fact that Yuri has never see the movie.
Carla:"So what do you think."
Yuri:"I am impressed by this man's abilities. He's skills involving guerrilla warfare and the clever use of the bow are commendable. However there are several things I question."
Victoria:"What's that?"
Yuri:"First, how did he manage to dodge all of those bullets. Statistically he should have been wounded several times, especially by the Soviet forces. Which brings me to my second point, are you certain those were Soviets?"
Victoria:"Yes."
Yuri:"That is questionable. If they were I fact Soviet forces John Rambo would have died."
Franklin:"Man what are you talking about?"
Yuri:"I'm saying that they would be able to hit him."
Franklin:"No way! It's Rambo! They couldn't. Everyone knows that the U.S. is the strongest."
Yuri:"That is incorrect."
Franklin glared at Yuri:"What?"
Yuri:"While it is true that the United States of America are a powerful force, the Soviet Union was superior. This fact has not changed with the fall of the Soviet Union, as Russia is a superior force."
Franklin:"That's a lie."
Yuri:"It is not. I am not doubting you or your soldiers, I am simply stating the fact that the Russian army is superior."
Franklin stood up in anger:"Why don't you prove it then!?"
Yuri slowly stood up in front of him:"Gladly."
Victoria got in the middle and pushed them apart:"Ok ok calm down. Franklin? Calm down. Alright?" Franklin sat on his bed, "Yuri, the movie is made in a way to make the main character seem invincible. It's an old action film made for entertainment, ok?"
Yuri:"I see. So it's purposely designed like that."
Takeshi:"Yes. Haven't you ever watched a movie?"
Yuri:"I watched a movie called Star Wars but... that was a long time ago." He looks down and then sits back on his bed.
Carla:"Ok then. You guys wanna watch something else?"
Victoria:"Oooh, I wanna watch American pie! I love that movie."
Carla:"Alright, lemme just-"
In that moment, someone knocked on the door and entered. It was captain Zeinep Yildiz. She was carrying some documents with her.
Zeinep:"Um, sorry for interrupting but the colonel wants to see you."
Franklin:"Thank you Captain, we'll be right there."
Zeinep nods, closes the door and leaves.
Franklin:"Alright. Let's get suited up and go see the colonel."
Victoria:"It's probably a new mission."
Carla:"Already?"
Takeshi:"Well what do you expect? We're the only Nemesis team, only a handful of people even know we're doing this."
Yuri:"Correct. This project is still in its infancy. It will take time in order to find more soldiers suitable for these types of assignments."
Franklin:"Just like Triple X."
Yuri:"What is Triple X?"
Franklin:"I'll explain later. We gotta go."
————————————
(18:23)
Meeting room
Each team member is sitting in its chair. Colonel Mustafa is showing them a projection of a building.
Mustafa:"Do you know what this is?"
Carla:"A hotel?"
Yuri:"That is the Georgian Christian Fellowship."
Mustafa:"Correct."
Yuri:"Why are you showing it to us?"
Mustafa:"One hour ago, there was a attack on this building. Around 25 Islamic extremists entered it, killed the security and are holding the people hostage. Normally we wouldn't involve you into this but things changed when we discovered this."
An image of a man in his 40s with a beard and a taqiyah on his head is shown. He fired a pistol into the air, probably to silence the people in the room.
Mustafa:"This is Asim Abad aka, Azrael."
Takeshi:"Azrael?"
Mustafa:"Yes. Allah has four archangels, Jibrael, Mikael, Israfil, and Azrael, who are set with being messengers to the prophets, taking care of the people and preparing them for the Day of Judgment. These extremists have separated into four large groups, each led by an archangel. Counting on that fact we can assume that these men he brought with him are his 'guardians'."
Takeshi:"So what is it you want us to do?"
Mustafa:"I need you to get over to Georgia, rescue the hostages and capture Asim alive. We need him for interrogation. He might know where the others are. And if not, we will still be able to dismantle a quarter of these lunatics."
Franklin:"The way you talk is a bit hostile towards people who are of your religion, colonel."
Mustafa:"I hold no emotion towards these men. They spit on the name of Allah and dare call themselves the angles sent to do his bidding. They defile our tradition and everything we stand for. I want them gone. But to do that, we need him alive. I will be sending Techno, Longshot and Reaper."
There was a silence in the room.
Franklin:"Sir, with respect, why send Reaper. Hate to admit it, but he's the best killer we got and this mission is about taking him alive."
Yuri:"You are worried I will fail my assignment and kill Asim Abad, Captain Jones. I will not, those are not my orders."
Franklin:"But-"
Mustafa:"I picked Takeshi and Reaper because of their infiltration expertise and stealth like approach when conducting a mission. Longshot in there to act as long range support. She will be stationed on the building across from this one. These are my final orders. Any questions?"
Yuri:"What about the others?"
Mustafa:"Expendable. Anything else?"
Nobody answers.
Mustafa:"Gear up, you're leaving at 19:00."
They stand up, salute and leave the room. On their way to the armoury, Franklin grabs Yuri by the shoulder. Yuri turns his head towards him.
Franklin:"Don't fuck this up... private."
Yuri:"Do not worry... Captain."
———————————————
(18:42)
Armoury
Takeshi takes his MP5SD and HK45. He grabs his night vision gear and hacking tablet.
Carla takes her Z93 and MP7 suppressed as well as her usual tunes.
Yuri takes his M21 and CZ75 suppressed. He also takes his throwing knives. He prays and heads out.
———————————————
(18:57)
NATO HQ airstrip
This time, the military issued a Supersonic airliner to fly them to Georgia. This was unusual but because this mission needed to be done as soon as possible, an exception was made.
————————————————
(20:35)
Tbilisi airport
The three exited the airport and were greeted by a man in a black suit standing next to a black SUV.
Man:"Kill team Nemesis?"
Yuri:"Who is asking?"
The man pulls out a badge with the symbol of the GIS.
Man:"I am special agent Giorgi Mamedov of the Georgian Intelligence service. I've been informed by my superiors that three individuals will land on this airport and that I'm supposed to escort them to the Georgian Christian Fellowship."
Takeshi:"I'm guessing you know Colonel Mustafa Polat?"
Giorgi:"Yes."
Carla:"Let's get going then."
They enter the SUV and the agent started driving them to the GCF.
Takeshi:"What's the situation in the Fellowship?"
Giorgi:"Far from good. Asim has been holding the hostages for four hours now. He already killed three of them. That bastard! He says he's going to kill all of them if his demands aren't met."
Takeshi:"What are his demands?"
Giorgi:"He wants the head of the current patriarch, Ilia II."
There was a dead silence in the SUV.
Carla:"Is that mofo out of his mind."
Giorgi:"He appears to be. He keeps rambling about the Day of Judgment and how he was sent by Allah to save as many people as possible. 'This world will come to an end, and the only way to survive is to worship the one true god Allah. Give in to Allah, become his lions, stop being sheep and you will be blessed with eternal life along side his angles', those are his words."
Carla:"Crazy motherfucker. I can't believe we gotta take him alive."
Yuri:"If he makes it impossible, I will kill him."
Giorgi:"I say we kill right away, but your superiors as well as mine don't agree. They wish to think of the long term problem."
After a few more minutes they arrived. The entire street has been blocked off and the police surrounded the front entrance. Two helicopters are constantly flying above the building.
The SUV stops and the team exits. They walk to the police captain who was in charge of situation.
Giorgi:"Special agent Giorgi Mamedov, we will be taking it from here Captain."
Captain:"W-wait. Are you sure?"
Giorgi:"Yes. These three will take care of everything." He points to Yuri, Takeshi and Carla.
Captain:"Who are they?"
Giorgi:"That's classified information Captain. Let's just say, they're the ones you send out to kill devils." He turns to them,"Well, do your thing."
Yuri:"Techno."
Takeshi:"Right." He pulls out his tablet and does his hacking magic.
Yuri:"Anything?"
Takeshi shakes his head:"No, they destroyed all the cameras on the bottom level. The must be there. Wait, hold on."
Carla:"What?"
Takeshi:"I see men walking around the floors above. Eight men on the second floor and seven on the first floor. That leaves ten men and Asim. But where-", just then he spots a camera,"I see them!"
Yuri:"Where?"
An image opens up of a large room with a fountain in the middle. The room has while columns placed in a circle holding the floors above. The walls had traditional Christian markings and icons as well as crosses. The floor was marble and there was a large chandelier hanging on the ceiling. There were ten armed men and one that fits Asim's description. There were about 32 people sitting around the fountain. Some were children and elderly. They were all scared especially cause of three dead bodies lying next to them.
Takeshi:"He has them in the lobby. They didn't destroy the camera in the corner."
Yuri:"Where's the lobby?"
Captain:"It's at the end of the long hallway when you enter the building."
Yuri:"Alright. Longshot, go up top on the building across the street and act as cover. Techno, come with me."
Carla:"Woah woah woah, who made you in charge?"
Yuri:"Do you wish to be in charge?"
Carla:"Not really."
Yuri:"Then it is decided. Take your position. Captain, I want your men at the ready in case they try to escape."
Captain:"Understood."
Carla went to the top of the building across ten street. Yuri and Takeshi walked to the side of the building. There were balconies on the sides which could be used to infiltrate the building.
Yuri threw his rope to the third floor. Takeshi climbed to the first floor (not bottom floor) and Yuri climbed to the second floor.
Captain:"Are you sure about this agent?"
Giorgi:"Honestly? All I can do is pray."
Yuri got into the building. He clicked his communicator on his ear:"Reaper in position."
Takeshi:"Techno in position."
Carla:"Longshot in position."
Yuri:"Techno, start moving and take out all your targets. Then move to an elevated position over the lobby. I will do the same and go down to the bottom floor."
Takeshi:"Copy that."
Yuri:"Let's get to work."

Orc Lord
A young woman just starting out in life is killed tragically in a car accident. However, she soon regains consciousness as a baby in a fantasy world. But... she's an Orc?! It would be good if she could just enjoy her new life quietly, but she seems destined for war and carnage. How will she fare as a monster in a fantasy world? ________________ This story will have a total of three arcs: Arc 1, The Birth of Babylon: 571 pages (complete) Arc 2, The Baphomet War: 420 pages (complete) Arc 3, The Mad Queen of Carnage: (in progress) ________________ Ultimately, I'm writing this for enjoyment. If you enjoy it too, fantastic! Gore: Extremely infrequent, but moderately intense. Profanity: There are a few swear words here and there, as well as some more creative insults. Traumatizing Content: While I'm at it, there are some questionable morals displayed (mostly after chapter 77). So far we can check off slavery, brainwashing, war, and genocide. This story starts off very Light Novel-ish because I was reading a lot of them at the time. The writing style gradually matures as it goes. Sorry, but I don't have the stamina to go back and fix everything, even if I know it gets pretty roughshod at times. New readers, please keep in mind, I make use of "unreliable narrators" at times. My story accepts donations, but it is free to read and I've only uploaded it here. Lastly, Orc Lord is a member of the WriTEr's Pledge, which means I have sworn to see it through to a satisfying ending. One of my long breaks triggered a dishonor, but I'll redeem it someday when it's actually finished. I'm the ultimate necromancer author. ;P

On the Road to Elspar (Book 1)
The year is 1329. The Huntress' War has entered its tenth year, inflaming competing nationalisms and pitting the Confederacy of Caldrein against one of the continent's superpowers, the Tenereian Union. Desperately outnumbered, the Confederacy has relied on the prowess of its famed Caldran mercenaries, with highly-trained and experienced warbands returning from foreign conflicts to the defense of their homeland, and it is on their backs that Caldrein has successfully mounted a valiant defense for a decade. But they are losing, and day by day, with all the grace of a sledgehammer, the vast Tenereian armies take one more bit of Caldran territory, one footstep at a time. Sixteen-year-old Neianne from the village of Caelon has submitted herself to Faulkren Academy, one of the centuries-old institutions established to train the next generation of Caldrein's elite soldiers of fortune, to learn the ways of wars for three years before embarking upon the defense of her country. Her dryad family once hailed from reclusive woodland communes isolated from Caldrein's complicated mainstream society, and her upbringing leaves the shy village girl unprepared to suddenly train alongside other apprentices from backgrounds as low as the dirty slums of Caldrein's cities and as high as the halls of aristocratic power. Yet the war is eroding the norms and traditions that the Caldran people have long considered part of their national mythos, and the tensions within the confederacy that have long simmered under the surface - race, class, community, identity - are slowly but surely dividing its people, and Neianne must grow and discover who she really is, even as the war that she is steadfastly training for comes to its inexorable end... On the Road to Elspar is a fantasy quest - a work of interactive fiction wherein readers get to vote on what happens next at critical junctures - that is the first entry in a story that follows Neianne of Caelon, which first began on July 20, 2016. Originally a three-part in medias res prologue to a larger story titled On the Elsparian Road, it was eventually decided that this section - which covers Neianne's three years at Faulkren Academy - become its own independent story due to length, structural, and accessibility reasons. Despite this being a reader interactive work of fiction, due to logistical and verification concerns, voting will only be counted on its thread on the forum Sufficient Velocity, where this story originally began. As such, the content here on Royal Road serves as a story-only archive. You are, of course, entirely welcome to enjoy On the Road to Elspar as a conventional work of fiction, just as you are welcome to comment, discuss, and provide critique. But if you would like to participate in the voting, then I would be honored to welcome you on Sufficient Velocity. To facilitate accessibility and to ensure the best reading experience, this story-only version of On the Road to Elspar will be updated at a periodic pace, even though further content exists, so as to not overwhelm new readers on Royal Road. If you enjoy this story, wish to binge it, and/or want to participate in voting immediately, you may of course read all additional content via the link provided above. This paragraph will be removed once the content on Royal Road catches up with what has already been posted in its original thread. Cover artwork by DreamSyndd.

Unknown Fate's End
The ancient's believed that a man's fate or destiny is written already, and that only God or maybe the Gods could change it. If they did change it, it was believed it was for a purpose unknown to that man or for maybe for the ammusement of those higher beings. However, whether that is true or not, one thing is for certain. Changing a man's fate will create a ripple of changes. Join our hero, who whether by luck, by some divine intervention, or by his own choice, separated from the fate that he shared with his fellow earthlings. Watch him struggle in his new world. Watch him grow. Watch him learn. Watch him walk a path oustside what destiny has for him. FYI: The magic concept in this story is high fantasy with involvement of polytheistic religions and demons. There will be a mix of GameLit style writing mixed with traditional magic novel style writing. The plot developement will be slow in the first volume, as I will focus on world building and character building. The main character will not be OP immediately and will develop into one in his own way over time. This series is built less like modern Japanese, Korean, and Chinese webnovels and more like the old school fanstasy novels like DND and Forgotten Realms.

Lost souls, will be rewritten soon. (Old version)
In a world where mages stand above the peasants, the nobles, and the law, it is not surprising that everyone wants to learn magic. Five siblings from a village in the middle of nowhere felt the same. Unfortunately, a dragon brought ruin to their home, eventually cornering the five blood brothers. Luz, the eldest brother, ignored the warnings of his ancestors for the sake of their survival. Using an ancient teleportation spell, he and his siblings were sucked into a portal leading to God-knows-where. In a foreign place far from home, Luz carries the burden of disobeying his ancestors and losing his younger brothers. He sets off to reunite his siblings and slay the dragon that destroyed their village while only being equipped with one useless space spell that drains all his mana after one usage. Author's note: English isn't my first language and this is the first novel I tried writing, which is why some of the earlier chapters aren't that good, even though I grew better over time. I'm still in the phase of editing a lot of my earlier chapters. But unfortunately, I haven't yet found any time for it. Daily updates are to be expected till we reach chapter 100. If your comment motivates me, I might upload up to five chapters.^^
