《Heart Of A Servant》Chapter 18 : Death contract

After sealing the Shadow, Kyle breathed a sigh of relief and then said to me," I've become a Primus right? Isn't it time that we deal with the three Magus Gods?"

I shook my head. A Primus had an edge in terms of physical strength, but it wasn't enough to contain a barrage of spells sent his way. Some spells could incapacitate him by sending him into a trance which would give the attackers the opportunity to send attacks that could cripple him or obliterate him regardless of the physical strength he wielded.

I said,"You may feel invincible right now, but your strength would barely be enough to defeat one Magus God. You've got three of them..."

As I was thinking about a way we could safely escape, the Shadow that had been sealed by sealing ropes started moving, apparently it had something to say.

I instructed,"Unseal his head. I want to know if he's got an idea."

Kyle looked at me with a strange look. He reluctantly opened his palm and the ropes that were sealing the head of the Shadow came undone.

The Shadow then looked around with a triumphant smile. It said,"Gentlemen...seems like you need my services after all... didn't think it would be so soon, huh?"

Kyle couldn't control himself and landed a punch on the Shadow.

I would've told him to control himself as we were still in his dream and that a punch would accomplish nothing, but I remembered that he had been tortured for a long time and needed to vent a little.

I sternly looked at the Shadow and then urged it, "Spit it out already."

The Shadow smiled and then said,"Even if there were hundreds of Magus Gods, if I was to fight, I wouldn't necessarily lose because of the Runic Law I have."

I called his bluff,"It's the Dark Form Runic Law. You're just evil. You have nothing other than a Primus strength."

The Shadow then laughed and said,"That's where you're wrong...I'm not just evil...I am darkness itself...all I know is that I awakened every Runic Law under the Darkness element making me the wielder of the Prime Law of Darkness."

The Prime Law of Darkness. I was so in shock that I couldn't think clearly.

There were Variant Runic Laws and Prime Runic Laws.

Variant Laws were a subdivision of a Prime Law.

Prime Laws were the highest and purest representation of a specific law.

To boast of having comprehended a Prime Law you had to have comprehended every Variant Law under it. It at least gave you the qualifications to comprehend the Prime Law.

For Kyle's alter ego to have a Prime Law was shocking to say the least... nonetheless, I decided to believe him. We needed his strength.

Then came the most important question: What would he ask for in exchange for helping us? I knew he wouldn't let an opportunity like this one pass him by.

I looked at the Shadow and asked,"What do you want in return?"

The Shadow remained silent for a long time before finally responding, " Well I will only ask for twelve hours a day of freedom. In those twelve hours, I'll get to use Kyle's body as I see fit. All I ask for is to not be sealed anymore. It's only been a few minutes that I'm sealed and I'm already driven close to insanity. I don't want to relive that again.

"Keep dreaming. You want an equal share of my body? Who do you think you are?" Kyle was incensed.

The Shadow then retorted,"We're the same person. We already share the same mind, shouldn't we share the same body as well?... Now...you need me and I decided to compromise since I'm on the losing team. Shouldn't you show your sincerity as well?"

"We accept your conditions." I said to the Shadow as I turned to Kyle saying," You can Unseal him completely."

I trusted that Kyle would compromise for the moment and once everything was fine, we could always seal the Shadow forever.

That was until I heard the Shadow say: " Do you guys really think I will take your words for it? Think hard." As he was now completely free he turned to Kyle and then said as a strange parchment appeared in its hand:"Here sign this. You can see that everything pertaining to the agreement is listed on it. If you fail to honor our agreement you'll suffer from Dark Corrosion until death."

It seemed I had underestimated this evil alter ego. I didn't even know that him, a non-magic user, could assign death contracts.

Kyle looked at me and I helplessly nodded.

Kyle then closed his eyes resigned as he said,"Alright, how do I sign?"

The Shadow then said,"Just press your palm on the parchment and it will be done."

Kyle put his palm on the parchment and then it transformed into a black bead that then entered his forehead.

The Shadow was elated seeing that the contract was done. It then looked up and said,"Who would've thought that I'd get to fight sixty-nine Magus Gods on my first day of freedom?"

Sixty-nine?

I had failed to understand what he meant when I remembered that I hadn't monitored the outside for a whole week as I was occupied with strengthening Kyle.

I sent my soul sense outside and then was shocked.

Other than the three triplets who were pouring mana into the copper ring, there were sixty-six other Magus Gods hovering not far from them seemingly waiting for something to happen.
