Through the Motions is the story of Deanna Richardson, a young artist from the quiet suburban town of Sharonia. After visiting a nearby consignment shop to sell one of her paintings, she runs into a young witch-in-training who goes by the name “Sol”. When Sol asks for help in activating her new magic wand, Deanna accepts the offer and is eventually given the wand as a gift. Driven by curiosity and an artist’s innate thirst for inspiration, Deanna strives to learn more about her new powers and the ins and outs of magic in general.

Novos Hitchhiker
Meet the mysterious being that has given itself the name Novos. Once an unfortunate reincarnating spirit on Earth, it has now wandered onto a new world full of magic and monsters. Unlike its previous incarnations on Earth, this time it has awakened, with a jumbled collection of its previous memories of Earth, inside the body of Celestine, a girl with no special powers or distinguishing traits whatsoever. Novos is a hitchhiker, sharing the body with the young girl. Along for the ride, but able to take the wheel when needed. This is the story of Celestine's life as witnessed and influenced by the presence of the foreign spirit. Note: This is a rewrite of a previously submitted fiction I posted here. I rewrote it for NaNoWriMo from memory. Feel free to read what I previously wrote, but significant elements have changed. I am leaving that iteration of the story up un-edited for future reference and for anyone curious.

A little rough around the edges, I hope to come back and edit at some point, and then continue the story on. In the grand scheme of things Elias was nothing special. Which was why he was surprised by a random company on a new colony planet buying out his contract. That was the problem with the large companies that ruled the colonies, once they owned your contract, they owned you. Imagine the greater surprise when he learnt that the new company held the promise of freedom. Not from the constant battle against the Swarm that were also trying to claim the colony planets for their own. Nor from the Crust, the mysterious substance that covered the same planets and held the resources they all fought for. No, the freedom from being oppressed by those with more power and to finally decide where to go and where to set down roots and call home.
