《The fashion consultant | Sherlock Holmes x Reader|》|Chapter 4: shenanigans|

"Aren't you going to ask why?" My gaze out the window went back to Holmes who was in the limo with me.

"Ask why what?" I questioned back and he gave me a look so I raised my eyebrow.

"Why I'm here as your plus one instead of John." A sigh escaped my lips and I shook my head. "So you have a theory. Go on." He seemed glad to ponder the idea I knew why I was stuck with this intolerant man.

"Well for starters people know who you are. If you're with me it would seem to be more of a coincidence than alarming fact. John blends in more with the crowd, so I'm guessing you're keeping some sort of distance from John because he's only recognisable when seen with you." Holmes popularity is small but the people gathered here know of his work and when seeing John's blog I'm sure his popularity is going to grow to a degree in a matter of months.

"We're going to keep a distance from John." He corrected staring out the window himself.

"Pardon."

"You said I was going to keep my distance from John but you are my date tonight so we have to act as such." Both my eyes rolled. This predicament is not how I would have preferred to spend the night. But I suppose a man did die so I have to do something to help. The car was pulled in, no cameramen were outside just a few bodyguards and workers. This was really kept under wraps. Maybe they should have considered a subtler place. Sherlock got out first and once I sid to his side I saw his hand extended out for mine.

"Thank you, Terry for driving us here." He's an older friend of mine, he knew my father when we lived here.

"Have a lovely night Miss (L/n)." I bowed my head slightly making the man smile.

"Now Sherlock," I spoke up so his attention went back to me. I pulled out the pin I was given for my plus one fixing it onto his suit pocket. "I've given you access to the advent but I do wish to gain some clients before this night ends."

"Rest assured you'll have at least one new client. We mustn't waste any time." Sherlock brought his hand to my lower waist walking both of us up the stairs. Both bodyguards at the doors glanced to our pins before nodding.

"Welcome. Enjoy your evening." Said in unison they swung open the doors letting us enter. Soft music was playing and the main room was heated. Paintings were hung among the walls having people sipping wine while enjoying the atmosphere.

"John isn't arriving for another ten minutes. So we have time to chat." He swiftly took two wine glasses passing one over to me with a cheeky smile.

"And what would we talk about? You don't seem very fond of me." My voice spoke into the tall wine glass before taking a sip. We stood by one of the larger paintings in the room.

"I don't tend to be fond of many people. Let's say I'm intrigued." I pondered at that for a moment. "You have enough money to live wherever you want in London and yet you choose baker street. That's odd for someone of your high standing." My lips curved into a smile.

"Curiosity. Mr Holmes. I'm bored by boring people which they always live in the higher places so living with norm tends to brighten my life. Although I wouldn't call you and John the normal sort of people." Sherlock's eyes wondered over my face, taking in my appearance like we'd just met.

"Ha (Y/n) you made it." It was Sir Morris. I smiled seeing his outfit, perfect in every way.

"Glad to see you're enjoying my outfit, Sir Morris." He laughed a little making a small change in his posture to show it off.

"Yes, I've managed to run out of your business card my dear. Do you..." I passed over a handful which was ready and waiting. "Ah yes thank you. You wouldn't even need to show up and you'd have work for months on end." He cheered. Morris was always the one with a theatric mindset.

"Well, It's always good to see the face of the creator. Makes a statement don't you agree?"

"Wholeheartedly and who's this? Already found yourself a man (Y/n)?" Sir Morris drew his attention to Sherlock who extended a hand to shake his.

"I'm an old friend of (Y/n) here." He spoke while glancing to me and smiling. Sir morris chuckled softly letting go of the strong hold the two had.

"Not from the position I see your hand. Old lover perhaps?" Sherlock merely smiled before Morris was spoken to by this PA. "Sorry to cut this short but I'm needed elsewhere." Sir Morris took his leave and Sherlock turned back to me.

"He likes you." I sighed at his comment taking another short sip of my wine.

"Yes I know, I'm not daft. Many of my clients find me attractive it's how I get clients. That and I'm so good at what I do." Sherlock scoffed a little pulling me along with him through the sea of people while I sipped my wine.

"A little cocky are we?" I laughed at that.

"Coming from a man such as yourself. Besides being a little confident never hurt anyone."

"Sherlock?!" A man spoke with an angry whisper.

"Oh good lord." Sherlock's head sunk low for a moment before he turned. This man. Mycroft. I'd dressed him for a secret meeting that I was to know nothing about. I did end up having some idea in the end of course but that's only natural.

"(y/n) back in London, I see." Mycroft didn't seem all that too surprised.

"Yes, how was that meeting with the lieutenant. The one I dressed you for?" The man stared at me for a moment before sighing.

"As sharp as always and you've already found yourself tangled up in my brother's shenanigans." I glanced up to sherlock who ignored my stare. So they're brothers. "What are you doing here Sherlock and bringing in an innocent woman of all people."

"I'm right here and I invited him if you must know. Enjoy your flight later this evening." I spun my heel around walking off to the food table. Taking a few small things onto the glass plate it was only a matter of moments before Sherlock returned to my side.

"Tell me how did you know he was going on a flight later today?"

"Easy, he's not wearing cufflinks and his shoes, that particular oxford shoe is designed for long-wearing with max comfort although having a less than appealing appearance," Sherlock smirked in my direction.

"John's here we'll slip away after the welcoming speech."
