《(Hiccup X reader) The One You Needed》Chapter 3 ~ The Chase

YOUR POV

I had never seen Elle flying so fast in my life! She was so excited! And so was I! She glided through the wind with her wings close to her narrow body. Making the infamous whistle that any Nightfury or Lightfury makes whilst flying incredibly fast. She couldn't wait, her natural instincts were telling her exactly were to fly by following the scent of the dragon. My journal was secure in my satchel, my sword in its scabbard and my helmet firmly on my head, helping me to avoid the ear-aching whistle and the sharp winds. I trusted Libelle to find the Nightfury.

NO POV

As time went by, Elle, barely reduced speed. You laid across her back looking up at the sky, seeing different, uncouth clouds pass by every second. You were equally excited as you were nervous... most of you wanted to find this dragon. To study it. To write about its nature and tendencies in your journal and to sketch its movements. To know if the legends back at home used to tell you years ago were true... 'Lighting and death itself'.

But a small part of you was doubting your dragons future loyalty, a part of you that you wanted to avoid thinking about. You knew that the Nightfury species mate for life. You thought, What if this is it? My last few moments with my loving, caring best friend. I trust her with all my heart that she will protect me at all costs, as she has done in the past. But what if she leaves me? I would have no one. You only ever wanted the absolute best for your dragon because of the love you have for her, therefore you carried on towards the Nightfury. You knew deep down that what ever happens is what's meant to be... Destiny is all you could count on.

YOUR POV

I felt Libelle decending from the air at an accelerating pace... I immediately sprung my body up to help lead her towards her target.

"Where is he Elle?" I shouted so that she could hear me through the strong winds.

"Gggraww" she said explicitly, unknowingly explaining nothing to me... I looked around for a jet black dragon flying below and saw nothing. Then what in Odens name is she hunting right now? Suddenly, a shadow covered us from above, I looked to see what it was, IT WAS HIM! THE NIGHTFURY!!

I tried to stay as quiet as possible, for it hadn't noticed us yet. The colour of Libelle and my armour helped us camouflage seamlessly into the white clouds surrounding us.

All of a sudden, Libelle opened her wings to decelerate without warning, causing her body to straighten upwards and for me to be hanging off of her body with only my two arms keeping me ahold of my dragon from falling into the freezing ocean below..

"LIBELLE! WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!" I screamed with fear. I heard a loud roar coming from above, followed by Libelle giving the same roar in return. He had seen us. She bolted forward and followed the Nightfury. I fell on my belly onto her back

"OUCH! Calm down girl! Woahh-" I shook off the mere panic and concentrated on following the Nightfury. He was flying away from us, trying to escape our presence. I interlocked my eyes with it, demanding that we could at least get a closer look. Wait... what is that- does he have a read tail?? No. A red and black tail?? I've never read about this sort of Nightfury before...

"C'mon girl! Lets gain in on him" Libelle flew higher, at level with the dragon, flapping her wings trying to get closer.

"Why is he trying so hard to get away?... C'mon girl show him what you got, we need a closer look" she accelerated and the dragon became even closer to our vision.

"Wait is that- is that- A RIDER?!" I couldn't believe my eyes... a person rode the Nightfury, they were bent forward, wearing jet black armour and turning to look back at us, they had a black and brown helmet covering every feature on their face.

As we gained up on them, they instantly changed direction, making our chase a little more challenging. Huh... a rider with experience... this is more like it. I grinned and accepted the unspoken game offer, (being the competitive Viking I've always been at heart). I crouched down on Elle and grasped tightly onto her saddle grip. "This is it Elle. Go get him!" She zoomed across the sky and immediately caught up with the dragon rider. Hahahaa! she's so competitive, just like me. Every turn they made, Libelle and I would echo their movements without delay. The dragon rider could sense us closing in on them, they turned to look back at us once again... then they immediately descended down quickly to the nearby island ahead.

"We got 'em girl! We won!" I patted Elle's head with compassion, just as a proud mother would.

The Nightfury landed on the island below and started running side by side with his rider into the trees.

"Really? They're still trying to escape?" I said feeling second hand embarrassment for them as we landed. We immediately started running after them. As they fled into the morning fog laced between the trunk of the tall trees, we lost sight of them in an instant!

Libelle cried a growl of confusion. I looked around the forest, looking for the Nightfury or the rider... they were nowhere in sight.

I heard the sound of flames close by...

"Can you hear that Elle? I hear... fire." She ran in front of me, trying to defend me from the possible danger nearby...

"GRRAAAAGH" the Nightfury jumped in front of Libelle from behind green shrubbery, growling. Elle was doing her best to defend me roaring back and standing her ground to try to win domination. The dark scaled dragon started circling us...

"Be careful Elle." I whispered to my only companion in fear of what was about to happen.

In the corner of my eyes, behind me, I saw orange flames, I turned around grabbed my sword out of its sheath, wielded it in my dominant hand and swung it around until I heard a *clash*...

It met another blade... except this blade was on fire!

IMPOSSIBLE!

We both stood with our swords making a shape of an 'X'... I was trembling with fear. I could hear my breathing becoming louder and irregular in my helmet. I froze. The hot flames off the riders' sword caused a part of my sword to glow red.

It was starting to melt my brassy blade...

The rider was standing tall and stood their ground... not moving a muscle. Completely knew what they were doing. I knew I didn't stand a chance. I stepped back, dropped my weapon on the grass below, and gave a whistle to order Libelle to stand down and to obey the enemy. She stopped growling and admitted defeat. The rider pointed their sword at my face, I could feel the burning warmth getting closer to my cheeks. I could barely see the silhouette of the rider behind the tall flames in front of me. I lifted my hands up in mercy and uncontrollably swallowed loudly with fear...
