《(Hiccup X reader) The One You Needed》Chapter 4 ~ The Rider

YOUR POV

We paused. Staring at each other. I didn't want to speak first and neither did the rider. Their eyes were scanning me, trying to unravel my motives. The Nightfury was circling us, like we were his pray. I didn't know what to do except stay completely silent ... Libelle was by my side, still protecting me as her own.

Their flamed sword were close, still aimed at my neck; the heat close to my face, causing sweat to pour down my forehead. I was so nervous, I just wanted to cry. How did this go sideways so fast? I didn't even know where we were on the map at all...

The rider didn't strike and neither did their Nightfury. The dark dragon just kept on circling us, waiting for his masters command. I saw the metal contraption built around his legs and below his majestic wings... the metal lead all the way to the tip of his tail, where the man-made, red tail was placed. I had so many questions yet I was speechless and had nothing more that I could do, I could only pray to Thor himself that the rider had compassion not to kill us. Thankfully, it didn't quite seem like they were going to.

The sword contracted into its handle causing the flame to disappear. Intentionally I presume, for the rider then kept the sword away... their not going to use it? An instant relief fell over me. Knowing that I was safe, but I was still deeply worried about Elle and what they were going to do to her. The rider then walked up to me slowly... as he came closer towards me it became obvious it was a ...

He was a man. He was tall, broad shoulders expanding from his lower neck, his armour was the shade of his dragon... he had one leg, the other was metal. He didn't look like the people from my old home, he was slimmer, taller and walked with reason other than violence towards me and my dragon.

He walked right up close, towering over me, I tried to see his eyes but his helmet covered most of his features. My breathing staggered, and nerves were taking control of my body. He raised his hand towards me, I defended myself by raising my arms across my face... my heart was pounding through my chest. As I was waiting for an impact of sort, I heard a thud on the ground...

"LIBELLE!" I shouted. Libelle was on the floor with her eyes closed, she's still breathing... thank the Gods!

"What did you do to her?!" I asked the rider, in agony... I collapsed in front of Elle, stroking her hoping that she felt my touch. I'm with you girl. Your safe as long as I'm alive, I promise. I turned around quickly and grabbed my sword from the ground. I gripped it with both my hands tightly and pointed the blade towards the rider.

"I asked... what did you do to her?!" My hands were shaking. I had never held my sword with the intention of killing before in my life. But that was how I felt... Libelle is the most important thing in the world to me. I'm not going to let ANYTHING happen to her.

The rider put his hands up and said

"Don't worry, I wouldn't do anything to harm your dragon. I just want to talk..." he walked over to his dragon in a relaxed manner and reached for something in his satchel... it was fish? He fed some to the Nightfury, he then handed some to me.

I hesitated, but I took the fish from his hand. I was so confused is to what was happening-

"Trust me, she'll love it. Nightfuries love the food that lives in this area."

"I know." I said without patients, dropping the fish on the ground to convey my anger.

"What. did. you. do. to. her?" I asked once more, this time with a demanding tone, yet my nerves peaked through every word due to how unconditionally terrified I was...

I was desperate to know if Elle was okay.

"Relax. I only put her to sleep, she'll be awake in an hour or so. It was the only way I knew that you wouldn't fly away once I approached you." He said still feeding and petting his dragon.

"You could've asked... I would've stayed." I said trying to get him to trust me.. I lowered my sword.

"I wasn't counting on it. You seemed so scared."

"You were holding a sword that was ON FIRE right in front of my face!"

He laughed, then asked...

"That is what happens when you threaten a Vikings' dragon... Why were you following us then?"

"The Nightfury. I wanted- we wanted to see a Nightfury. We've been searching for one for months. I knew that this area was an option for them to be habitant. Your dragon is the first one we've ever seen... you're a Viking?"

He stared at me. He sat down on a rock and placed his hand on the chin of his helmet. His dragon beside him. What is he thinking about?

"Yes, although I don't look much like a Viking, I am one. I didn't appreciate the chase by the way... but once I knew you were riding a Nightfury. I-... we wanted to see your dragon too... Toothless here is the only Nightfury I've ever seen in my life... but yours is- is white?" He explained with a hint of confusion.

His voice... it sounds familiar- I can't link it to anyone without seeing his face. His voice sounded like a distant memory, but rustier.. older? I continued talking to him, speaking my mind...

"Well yes. She's a Lightfury. A female, you can tell by her blue eyes." the rider nodded his head implying that he knew about the eyes. I carried on..."But your dragon is legend. It's the combination of lighting and death itself! My home... my past home- well- once I lived in a place that had a Nightfury cursing the island. But it never appeared in daylight. It only showed itself at night, everyone knew what it was and always knew when it was present. The whistle of its flight and the purple light appearing every time something important was destroyed. It was an incredible, intelligent creature. It knew what was valuable to us, unlike the other dragons: The docks, the fire plates, the watch tower... I've always wanted to see one-" I stopped talking. Have I revealed too much? Shit I've said too much haven't I... Why isn't he talking?

He looked at me in silence and stood up tall. The silence made me so nervous.

"Lighting and death itself... incredible, intelligent creature... you wanted to see one so badly... cursed your past home..." he talked under his breath. His murmur was confusing me. Did I say something wrong?

"Those words... they sound familiar. You sound familiar... you're voice-" He said quietly.

"Sorry?" I said with sharpness. What is he on about? I thought.

"I'm sure your mistaken, I haven't had a home in over five years, I wouldn't know you. I don't belong anywhere anymore" I tried to convince him as well as myself, even though I knew that voice from somewhere aswell...

"Impossible...(Y/N)?... is that you?" he said as he stood with his whole body facing me. My whole insides sunk. No one had spoken my name to me in years. Who is this man? How on Earth does he know my name? I couldn't speak, my mouth went dry and my body ran cold. I waited for an explanation as he raised his arms towards his head, grabbing the sides of his mask... I stared as he pulled it off slowly, revealing his long, brown hair that swished gracefully against the wind. Small plats were braided throughout his auburn coloured main. Then I saw his face- his deep green eyes unraveled in the sun and were surrounded by a sea of freckles. He was beautiful. My eyes examined his perfect features as my mind gave me back my memories...

I know this face...

"Hiccup?" I asked in disbelief.

I removed my mask in a fast motion, letting him see what I had become over the years.

His face glowed with happiness with tears pouring down his cheeks. He beamed with relief...

I ran towards him and engulfed myself in his tight embrace. Nostalgia dominated my thoughts whilst his natural, familiar scent filled my face.

Tears filled my eyes and fell down my face making the back of Hiccups armour wet. Immense happiness was the prime emotion that I was feeling in the presence of my old friend.

"Where have you been all these years?? Everyone thinks your dead! I- I thought you were dead..." Hiccup looked flushed as he pulled away from the first hug I've had in years. He had tears pouring down his rosy cheeks. Guilt subconsciously fed my mind, yet I was still so happy that I could die then and there.

I haven't seen anyone from Berk since I had left. I'm so glad he's here.
