You decide that risking the curfew isn’t a good idea, even if you are to meet the Lord in Arms. Sometimes the guards do get a little uppity about it, and though it may be legal, they do find it in poor taste. Of course, the Lord in Arms may be offended by you not arriving when he asked, but at the same time, you’re still following the law to protect yourself.

Also, it could be that whatever may have caused this stir may still be around, and as much as this is a great opportunity, you can always get more later in life that may not require you to risk your life.

You choose to take the smart option and stay at the workshop overnight, and the smart option when it comes to the modification, by practising first and then creating the actual modification later.

You take the time to create the base of the modification, utilising whatever tools you have at hand. Your mentor always keeps her stock up, going out at least every month in order to keep her workshop stocked.

You create a demo of the initial mechanism, and then check to see it works appropriately. As expected, as you press down the switch the flame bursts out, and then when you take the switch off, it takes a moment, but eventually the flames die out.

You attach it to a nearby scrap blade that Rebeca uses to check the weight of her own modifications. You then wire the blade up, then test to see if the wire alights once more. It does mess with the balance, but a decent enough swordsman should be able to get used to it after a few weeks. Finally you check the compartment for the oil to see if it will leak, but as expected, it’s all fine.

You are confident that, as long as you follow the step-by-step process that you have just gone through, you should be able to recreate the item without much issue.

However, it is deep into the night now. You can feel slumber call to you.

You can choose to continue on the work, and risk exhaustion, or you can go to sleep and then start creating the modification tomorrow.
