You decide to work on the modification, after all, there’s no time like the present. You get to using the schematic you drew up and the practise you used beforehand to continue to create the modification, though this time for real.

The modification process goes smoothly, for the most part. You do use a little more material than you anticipated, but that’s not a huge bother all things considered. You continue to work on it through the night, toiling over your work carefully. Dawn finally arrives, and you can feel yourself grow weary. You’ve been up for an entire day and night at this point.

Your body grows heavy after some time, and you have acquired the first phase of exhaustion.

The first phase of exhaustion will make it difficult for you to do anything that requires an ability check; like tinkering or stealth. This does not affect saving throws or attack rolls, so you should be fine if you get caught up in anything, however escaping or persuading your way out may be difficult.

Even though you are exhausted, you have spent a full 16 hours both practising and working on the modification and have completed it. Even though dawn has come, you have nothing you really need to get done today.

You may continue about the day, potentially visiting the festival exhausted. Or you may head to bed and rest for a full eight hours in order to get rid of the exhausted state. You can still head to the festival later in the day, after sleeping or doing something else. Though, you’re not sure that the curfew has been lifted.
