《Bounty Cats》Book Two: Chapter 4

"I can't believe you were banging a dog woman when you are supposed to be watching our target!" Rei ducked her head behind the dining table, which was tipped over to give Luna and her some cover from the flying laser bolts.
Luna blasted her gun over her head without looking. "Hey! She was a nice piece of ass! I couldn't let her go without getting her contact number! And for your information, I spotted the guy! Thank you very much!"
A laser flew over Rei's head. She hissed. "Jegil! Can we take out the thugs first? I'm not sure how long the bounty will stay unconscious."
Luna nodded and held up her gun. "Grenade launcher!"
"Grenade launcher!" Her weapon replied.
After her gun changed, Luna aimed her launcher over the table and shot a few energy balls through the air. Screams and explosions echoed far on the other side. If there were major damages, the club owner of Divide Moon would receive a huge fee for the repairs.
Rei took a peek, only seeing smoke drifting behind the dance floor. Five bodies laid on the floor in blood, but they weren't the attackers. Three men and two women caught in the crossfire without the chance to escape. It sucked, but the animal city was never kind to everyone.
When the smoke cleared, more bodies appeared. Wolves and rats, wearing black suits as they laid next to their laser rifles. Not all of them were whole, though. Most of their body parts rested around their corpse in an explosive blood bath.
Geez, Luna’s weapons never left a body in one piece, Rei thought. "I think you got them-"
The ceiling window shattered as a large black figure crashed onto the dance floor. It was about eight feet tall and six feet wide. Shaped like a ball with two laser cannons and two sturdy metal legs. A red-eye was on the center of the machine. It could be a cockpit window or an optic viewer for the thing.

"They brought a f**king TW-500 here?" Luna shouted.
“A TW-What!?” Rei asked.
“A tank walker! Military class war machine! Don’t tell me how they brought it to this city!”
The machine clicked its arsenals and marched toward the center of the floor.
“Give us Jude, or I will blast you into cat-nip!” A static voice shouted from the tank.
Luna glanced at the tank over the table. “Cat-nip? Is that supposed to sound racist?”
Behind the tank, another cannon raised up. It shot a metal ball into the air, and it landed between the catgirls.
Luna glared at the beeping object. “Look out-”
The metal ball flashed, blinding the girls as electricity shocked through their fur. They screamed, feeling their lungs burned before they collapsed to the ground.
Rei opened her eyes, but her vision fuzzed like a static TV screen. “I can’t see! I can’t see!”
“Shit! My gun isn’t working!” Luna shouted and dropped her weapon. “The bastard tossed an EMP grenade at us!”
“What do we do?” Rei ducked after the sound of blasts flew above her.
She felt Luna's hands gripped her shoulders.
"You stay in cover, little pussycat!" The panther ordered. "I'll take out the sucker!"
"Don't call me little pussycat!"
"I thought you hate being called Kitty?"
"Just kill that thing!"
"Okay, kitty!" Luna tipped away while Rei probed to the floor.
*****
"Shit! Shit! Shit!" Luna dashed on all-fours around the dance floor, running from the mech's spraying laser bolts. She was lucky she has an EMP shield augmented inside her body. Without it, she wouldn’t be able to move for an hour after the EMP grenade exploded. Too bad Rei didn’t buy one, or else she wouldn’t be turned into a blind kitty. But as long as she laid low, Rei should be fine. A blind partner would only stand in her way.

Luna jumped over the bar counter and ducked. The blasts missed her.
Without her T-gun, she couldn't blow the damn thing into scapes. Only a high explosive weapon could penetrate its thick armor shield.
This is bullshit! Luna took a quick peek.
The tank marched toward the counter, preparing to take her out once it leaned over the counter. Luna had to think fast, or she would never meet another desirable girl to sleep with.
I think I got it! If Luna couldn't blow the thing from the outside, she could blow it from the inside.
She checked her back pocket and pulled out one grenade. She never planned to use it inside the nightclub, but in her own opinion, keeping an explosive could always come in handy when the situation changes.
When Luna heard the tank stomped close toward the counter, she sprinted to the right end and crawled out beneath the countertop door. She reached behind the tank and grabbed onto the hatch on its back.
She yanked the hatch as her artificial muscle fibers burned inside her bulging muscles. No matter how tightly locked a door was, nothing could stop her bionic arms.
“Come on! Come on, you son of a bitch!” She ground her fangs, using all her bio-energy to push her limit. If she had to break her arms to survive, she will do it.
With a scream, Luna hauled the hatch off the tank and tossed it to the floor. The pilot who was a naked mole-rat in a bulletproof vest, turned around and gasped at Luna’s sight.
Luna smiled and dropped the grenade into the cockpit. She then leaped off before her grenade exploded. The tank lowered its arms and collapsed to the floor, face first, letting smoke drifted out from its open hatch.
Luna sighed as her arms cooled off. After she takes a shower, she planned to eat a lot of fried chicken to refuel her energy. Who knew if she could open another metal door, which only a computer could open.
“Is it over?” Rei asked.
Luna rose and approached her partner. “Yeah, get the bounty so we can get the hell out of here!”
“I still can’t see!”
“Just take my hand and tell me where to find Jude.”
Rei glanced around with her eyes closed. “In the ladies’ restroom! Down through the private booth hall!”
“Got it!” While holding Rei’s left hand, Luna dashed to the restroom. She kicked the door open and glared at the stalls.
“Which one?” Luna asked.
Rei pointed her finger around. “Uuuuuuuu- The third one!”
Luna pushed the third stall door open and dropped her mouth. Instead of the bounty, there was only a puddle of blood beneath the toilet. And a hand was sticking out from the lavatory.
“Rei….. Is this the right stall?” Luna asked.
“Yes, why?”
Luna’s stomach curled. “I think someone….. Or something turned our bounty into tomato soup.”
Rei’s ears twitched. “What?”

The Depths of Magic
Synopsis It's the year 2052 and the release of the new next-generation full-dive VRMMO game called The Depths of Magic is hitting the world by storm. The game's technology will surpass all other games before it and shock the masses. Hector who goes by the name Locke inside the game is an experienced player of the genre. He is looking to continue his goal of enjoying gaming as well as the competition that goes along with competing for the top ranking spots. Novel Summary The Depths of Magic is a LitRPG novel focused on a Fantasy VRMMO setting. This is not a harem novel. In-Game systems The Depths of Magic features state-of-the-art technology never before seen in Hector's world. The key system the novel will bring up often is the Second Brain. The Second Brain system is more like a guidance AI for the players in the game that acts as if you had a second brain assisting your every action. How much guidance this AI will give is based on its experience or mastery skills a player will receive in the game. The guidance is seamless to a point where a player won't even realize they are being assisted, it's will feel like what they are doing is something they could always do. However, once they leave the game it will become quite apparent that they were receiving heavy guidance. The purpose of this system in a writing sense is to explain why a player can realistically become more powerful, more agile, or more skilled than they would otherwise be able to as a human. To give an example if someone could move faster than a bullet, how would a normal human brain be able to perceive and control this movement properly. Or how could a player who has never held a sword before become as experienced as someone who has trained with the sword all their lives? The magic system will be another focus of this novel. I don't want to spoil anything here but it should be an interesting one. The hope is that the system I have made will spark discussion between the readers on what combinations will do what. I already have most of it, but it will be fun to read as the author. Side notes My general focus for this novel is to attempt to make the in-game systems make sense. To give a vague example I have read a lot of novels of this genre and some have the habit of just creating such powerful items that it just breaks the system, and somehow the MC keeps finding challenging situations even with those items. What tends to happen when I read a novel like this I just ignore the stats of the items he is getting because the numbers don't even matter anymore. Release schedule: The chapter release schedule due to real-life complications is to release as I write them. Patreon setup: 1 chapter early release/discord access. Free content up to the current chapter includes an excel sheet that contains Locke's current stats at the end of the chapter. This is extra information for those that are interested.
