《True Identity》Chapter 5 - The Adventure Begins!

Author’s Note:

Hey everyone, this chapter took longer to write because I had to think of all the new material and also the formatting stuff took long too, like the classes and professions. Making up a stats system probably took the longest. But on the other hand, this is the longest chapter I've written so far, It’s around 2400 words!

I made another poll for this chapter, please answer it because it will give me a clear understanding if people have a problem with the curse words. You can answer whenever you want.

New Key

Italics = thoughts/feels Examples: what he thinks about after someone tells him something, what he feels after getting hit in a fight, what he thinks about after he sees something)

‘Apostrophes’= Actions that JAMES does (This will not always be there when he performs an action. It’ll only be there when it will make my story flow better like when there's a fighting scene)

{Braces} = Actions/sounds of things that happen around James, NOT James himself (Again this will not always be there, just when it will help the story flow better like during fighting scenes)

[Brackets] = System Notifications in game

True Identity

Chapter 5 - The Adventure Begins!

Do You Want To Connect To Absolute Authority?YESNO

“Yes.”

Swish

{Absolute Authority started to launched.} The first thing I saw was a scene of many kingdoms and it’s kings. Man this is some epic music playing in the background. After that scene the camera went through the forest and there were many different types creatures. Some creatures more frightening than others. The camera then panned towards the sky and started to head towards the mountains. In the mountains there was ruins of a fallen kingdom. The ruins looked hundreds of years old. Past the ruins of the fallen kingdom there was two armies fighting each other. There was a woman commanding the army on the right and a man commanding the the army on the left. It looked like the women's army was winning because the population of the women's army was overpowering the man's army. People were stabbing and slashing each other, thousands died. What a gruesome sight. After the army on the right beat their opponent, they let out a loud roar that could be heard for miles.

The scene suddenly shrank with the music in the background fading. That must have been the opening cut scene. It looked really cool and everything appeared so realistic, this game most definitely has a realism of 97%.

After a few seconds a window appeared in front of me and a voice that sounded somewhat feminine started to talk to me.

“According to the retina scan you are a new player! Would you like to create a new character?”

“Yes.”

“Choose a race”

I started to carefully look at the 5 different races. The elf looked pretty cool, they have pointy ears and wings. Their high agility also intrigued me. The barbarian looked taller and stronger than the rest of the races which looked sort of interesting. But that ultimately makes them a bigger target. The undead were not at gruesome as I thought they would be, but they were still ugly as fuck. I know I want to change my appearance but not that much…. The halfling didn't really appeal to me because I didn't want to be something that looked like a human and elf combined but also as tall as a baby…. And the increase in intelligence didn't interest me much either. The human looked like any ordinary human, which wasn't too bad. The balanced stats appealed to me also. In the end, I was stuck with the choice between human and elf.

‘After contemplating for a couple minutes’

“Elf.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

Author’s Note: HAHA, you thought I was going to make him human didn't you. :P

{A different window appeared in front of me}

“What is your sex? Male or female?

“Male.”

“Are you sure?”

What do you mean are you sure? Of course I’m sure!

“Yes.”

{A different window appeared in front of me}

“Choose your class.”

There were 8 starting classes. This is what the classes looked like:

Class:KnightDescription: Since medieval times, the knight has been performing military services for their kingdom. The knight is a very loyal and powerful class.Requirements: Plate Armor, 2-handed melee weaponsRestrictions: No Dual-Wielding, No Shield, No Ranged WeaponsBenefits: Higher intimacy with kingdoms.

Class:MageDescription: For centuries mages have used their extensive knowledge for all things magical. If wielded correctly, mages can have a power stronger than the sharpest sword.Requirements: Cloth Armor, Any Melee WeaponRestrictions: No Shield, No Ranged Weapons, No Duel-WieldingBenefits: Higher CC (Crowd Control).

Class:AssassinDescription: The assassin walks the shadows, striking it’s enemy when they least expect it. They are masters of stealth.Requirements: Leather or Plate Armor, Daggers, Allowed to Duel-WieldRestrictions: No Shield, No Ranged WeaponsBenefits: Higher chance of inflicting critical strikes.

Class:MonkDescription: After meditating for years, Monks have solidified their bodies letting them take less damage. Monks are the master’s of bare-handed combat, never relying solely on weapons.Requirements: Any Armor Set, Any Melee Weapon, Allowed To Use ShieldRestrictions: No Ranged Weapons, No Dual-WieldingBenefits: Take less damage (increased defense/fortitude).

Class:HealerDescription: For centuries Healers have devoted their spiritual magic to help others. Healers are the heart of the party.Requirements: Cloth Armor, Any Melee Weapon, Able To Use Shield, Allowed to Dual-WieldRestrictions: No Ranged WeaponsBenefits: Higher intimacy with churches.

Class:RangerDescription: Ranger’s are the masters of ranged attacks and they will do whatever it takes to keep their distance. If aimed correctly, Rangers can deal massive damage to their enemies.Requirements: Leather Armor, Any Ranged Weapon, Daggers, Allowed to Dual-WieldRestrictions: No ShieldBenefits: Can attack enemies from far distances, a slight higher chance of a critical hit.

Author's Note: Rangers are allowed to have their ranged weapon and a dagger equipped at their side for close combat fights.

Class:WarriorDescription: Warriors are masters of weaponry. They rely on speed, strength, and toughness to beat their enemies.Requirements: Leather or Plate Armor, Any Melee Weapon, Allowed to Dual-WieldRestrictions: No Shield, No Ranged WeaponsBenefits: The longer the fight the deadlier you become (increased stamina/endurance).

Class:NecromancerDescription: Necromancers are practicers of dark magic. Summoning the dead and wielding the power of lost souls, Necromancers suck the life out of the enemy.Requirements: Any Armor Set, Any Melee Weapon, Able to use ShieldRestrictions: No Ranged Weapons, No Dual-WieldingBenefits: Summon multiple minions and make them fight for you.

Author’s Note: Melee Weapons also include two-handed staff and 1-handed wand. Dual-Wielding means that they can hold two 1-handed weapons NOT one 1-handed weapon and a shield. If it says that the class can use a 1-handed weapon or Any Melee Weapon and Allowed To Use Shield then that class can use a 1-handed weapon with a shield in the other arm.

These are the 8 starting classes, you have to pick one. But if you are given the option to change classes in game you can. After thinking carefully of which class would fit my playing style and the elf race.

“Warrior.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

I think the warrior would fit best with my playing style. I’ll just have to put some stat points in strength to make up for the elf's lack of strength and have my agility make up for the rest.

{A different window appeared in front of me}

“Change your appearance.”

Unfortunately Absolute Authority sets a limit to how much you can change your appearance. I guess this makes sense, otherwise every guy would just make themselves extremely handsome and every girl would just make themselves extremely beautiful. It’s fine as long as I make myself unrecognizable.

It took me a while to change my appearance but when I finish I was satisfied with my work. My character looked somewhat like me in real life but little less… handsome I guess. I looked like an average guy but with slightly better looks, nothing too drastic. With my changed appearance and my elf ears, I’m practically unrecognizable.

After double checking to see if I got everything right, I saw that there was a notice at the bottom of the window. It read “you can change your appearance again in game just visit the beautician.” Hmm, I guess that could be useful if I ever decide to change my appearance again. After I knew that I was done, I continued onto the next step.

“Done.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

{A different window appeared in front of me}

“Choose your name.”

I have been waiting for this moment for a long time. ‘Without waiting another second.’

“Axle.”

Author’s Note: Honestly this took me awhile to think of. Was thinking of simple words that could also be used names. Thought of it and couldn't think of anything better so Axle is it! You try coming up with a name, it’s hard!

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

Axle was the name of my favorite cartoon character when I was a kid.

“What starting kingdom do you want to be assign to?”

I just picked my starting kingdom by eeny, meeny, miny, moe because I didn't know anything about the kingdoms anyway.

“The Kingdom of Edilath.”

“Are you sure?”

“Yes.”

Suddenly my surroundings started to change and within a couple of seconds I was in the Kingdom of Edilath. ‘I started to look around to see my new surroundings.’ The kingdom was on a tall hill with walls surrounding it nearly 30 meters tall (about 98 feet). The walls had 4 gates, located in the south, east, north, and west of the kingdom. In the middle of the kingdom there was a huge castle which is probably where the king lives.

God, the things I would do to own my own Kingdom! This place is awesome!

Towards the southern part of the kingdom was the market place. It was full of stalls that had npcs selling goods. Some of the goods they were selling were potions, books, armor and weapons. There were also places to eat like diners and pubs within the marketplace. I looked around the marketplace, most of the goods being sold were way out of my price range since the game only gave you 50 copper to start with.

In the eastern part of the kingdom is where the profession workshops were located. This place was the center of all the professions you could learn in Edilath. Some of the workshops there were the carpentry, sculptor, and agriculture workshops.

The housing center was located in the northern part of the kingdom. The poor housing was farther away from the castle, closer to the walls. The poor housing were basically shacks while the middle class housing center were decent sized houses that could sustain families. The rich housing were the closest to the castle in the center. These were giant mansion like houses. But the biggest mansion wasn't even half the size of the castle. The castle was about 45 meters tall (about 148 feet), which is 15 meters taller than the walls.

Finally, in the western side of the kingdom were mansions that were reserved for guilds to buy. I looked at the price in order to buy the smallest guild mansion. It was a whopping 25,000 gold! Holy crap, that’s a shit ton of money. Nobody is going to be able to afford a guild mansion anytime soon. Looking at the prices of the guild mansions made me wonder how much the castle would cost. Of course I know the castle doesn't actually have a price tag on it but the castle is about 45 meters tall while the tallest guild mansion is 25 meters tall (about 82 feet tall). If there was a price tag on the castle, it would be an unfathomable number.

After I was done checking out the kingdom I started to check out my equipment.

Adventure's Sword [Tier: Crude]Type:1-handedDurability:25 / 25Stats:Attack: 8-10, Strength: +1Requirements:Level 1

Adventure's Pants[Tier: Crude]Type:Leather ArmorDurability:25 / 25Stats:Strength: +2, Agility +5, Endurance: +5, Defense+5Requirements:Level 1

After I was done checking out my equipment I started to check out my stats

“Stats.”

Author’s Note: If you want to learn how the stats work please click on this link -> Stats SystemThis will explain everything to you.

After looking at my equipment and stats, I came to the conclusion that my equipment and stats sucked. But I guess that’s to be expected because I just started. Contemplating what to do next, I decided to go to the profession workshops, get my first profession, then go out into the world to train my skills!

There’s a rumor on the forums that if you hit the scarecrow in the training center X amount of times, you will eventually complete some proficiency thing and gain some powerful skill. But you know what I think about that rumor, BULL SHIT! The people who actually believe that crap read too many light novels. How can you base your game play off a novel when this is the real thing! Beside, why would I stay inside the castle for like 10 days or so just hitting a scarecrow staying at level 1 when I can go train my proficiency outside the kingdom hitting MOVING targets while level up?

Also that forum about hitting a scarecrow was so blown up with comments and believers of that crap that there’s probably over a million people trying to get into a training just to hit a fucking scarecrow. With that many people trying to get into a training center, they might not even complete it until 15 days later. That’s even if you can even gain proficiency from hitting a non-moving target….

When I reached the eastern side of the kingdom I went straight towards the blacksmith workshop. I wanted a profession that would help me over a long period of time and make decent amount of money. I opened the door and saw a big bulky stout man that looked like a dwarf hitting a sword with a hammer. The dwarf had the name Ferron hovering over his head. When I walked closer to Ferron, he looked up and noticed me.

“What can I do for you young adventure?”

“I would like to learn blacksmithing.”

“Are you sure you want to learn blacksmithing?”

“Yes.”

“Alright, but you will have to show me that you are worthy first. Can you do that?”

“Yes Sir!”

“Haha, just call me Ferron. Alright here's your quest, you will have to go to Wildehedge Mine, collect the iron ore that’s inside the mine and come back. Wildehedge Mine is south of Edilath about an hours walk, just follow the road and it will lead you there. Once you come back I will give you your next task. Here this will help you on your journey.”

Ferron handed me a pickaxe.

“Thank you, sir!”

“Beware on your journey, there are many creatures on the road to the mines. It’ll be difficult, especially for a young adventurer like yourself. And I told you just to call me Ferron!”

“Yes Si... I mean Ferron!”

After I was done talking to Ferron two windows appeared in front of me.

Author's Notes:

I know there's a lot of author’s notes in the chapter but I hope it will help clear things up for you guys. If it didn’t clear things up please tell me. I’ll try my best to help you understand.

Thank you all who answered the poll in the last chapter. It gave me a good understanding of where I stand in the action scenes. Most of you said that it was great and good, but it’s clear that I still have a long way to go. Make sure you answer the new pole at the top of the page. This will also give me a good understanding about the curse words.

Special thanks to Idle Editor, in the last chapter a gave me some constructive criticism on how to make my writing flow better (I’m not very good at English). I’ll try my best to fix my mistakes and make my writing flow better! Oh and Idle Editor if you’re reading this feel free to give me some more constructive criticism again, it really helped.

It was pointed out to me last chapter that I need to describe things more like places. I hope this is better for you. If it’s still not as descriptive as you would like, tell me. I’ll trying my best in future chapters.

Thanks for reading the chapter. I would greatly appreciate it if you visited my blog. This is where I'm going to post the chapters some time in the near future. https://trueidentitynovel.wordpress.com
