《The Secretary》I've Fallen

Jensen

I had just asked her a simple question, something that seemed so easy to answer as she had every other time. But now, she sat on the floor, crossed crossed in front of me, working on my ankle as she sat in deep thought, her mouth hanging a bit open, and her hair slowly falling across her face.

I had started to think she hadn't heard me, until she finally cleared her throat and looked up at me, a stern look in her eye, as if she was disciplining a small puppy.

"Jensen, listen. You and I are both attracted to each other, and I love you, but we both know this wouldn't work." She said.

I felt my body practically deflate. I hadn't realized my feelings for her until just recently, and hearing how stern she was, and how regretful she looked, she didn't want to believe the words that just came out of her mouth.

"But we could make it work, we could make it so you and I could be together, so Jj can have a mother figure that won't let her down." I said.

Her face instantly turned into disappointment.

"Don't you dare bring that little innocent girl into this. I know she doesn't have a reasonable mom, trust me. Jensen, I love that girl, just about as much as I love you, but this," She paused. "Us, won't work. I'm sorry Jensen, but I can barely stand you at the office, just flinging girls underwear everywhere like it's nothing, and then when I tell you that it's time for me to move on, you're asking me to stay?" She stood up. "That's one of the most selfish things I've ever seen you do."

"Y/n, please you don't understand. I've changed, and even if you think I haven't, I'm willing to change for you, I want to make myself better for you. And for Jj, I'm not just brining her into this to guilt trip you, that's not my plan at all." I stood up, not really realizing how close I was to her as I said the next words. "Really, I don't have a plan, all I know is that I know what it's like to live without you by my side, and it's dark, dull and scary. But when you're here, with me and with Jj, it's like a light was lit, and I can see clearly, and the one holding the light is you."

"What are you saying?" She asked me, growing ever so closer.

"I'm saying," I paused, not sure if she would accept what I was about to say. "I've fallen for you. I've fallen in love with my best friend."

His lips were on mine, and his words on repeat in my thoughts. His lips were soft, gentle. It was nothing like the past kisses that we've shared. His hands held mine, not roaming, just firmly holding mine.

I've fallen for you. I've fallen for my best friend. His words did not stop, and it wasn't until he had pulled back that I missed the feeling of his lips on mine.

Although I did love him, and I did fall for him as well, I couldn't help but ask.

"How do I know you're not lying to me?" It came out in a whisper, and tears had streamed down my face as I dropped my head in an effort to hide them.

He gently placed his finger under my chin, pulling my face so I was forced to look at him. The hurt and sorrow in his eyes hurt like hell, but his expression was stone cold, and he almost look like he was angry.

"I would never lie to you about how I felt about you. I never have and I never will. If you don't believe me, then that's alright. After everything I've put you through, it's only reasonable that you can't trust me anymore." His voice was quiet, and he looked as if I had just kicked a puppy, hurt and broken.

I thought for a moment, my hands still holding his, and before I had spoken, I gave them a tight squeeze.

"If we were to make this work, it's have to be a secret until I find a new job." I said.

"You're still going to get a new job?" He asked, he looked happy, but sounded like he was still hurt.

"I have to Jay, I can't have everyone thinking I slept my way to the top." I said, "but how would we make this work?"

"Let's just finish our trip, and then we'll think about the how." He answered.

"But this is still a secret." I said.

"Of course, but can Jj know?" He asked me, of course, a new father always thinking of his daughter.

"Of course Jj can know, we just have to figure out how to tell her." I said laughing.

Jensen smiled at me before pressing a firm kiss to my lips, then pulling back and looking at me with the most adoring look in the world.

"What?" I asked him.

"It's just, damn I'm the luckiest man to be here with you." He said.
