《The Secretary》Motherly Figures

We were headed the the ranch with Jj in the back seat. She was practically bouncing up and down in her seat as we pulled into the driveway.
Jensen had gone to sign us all in, and I stayed with Jj, taking her to some closer pastures by the office, and picking her up so she could pet the donkeys and horses and such.
She giggled as she pet the horse, and then moved onto the donkey, running her hands along his ears. She had a smile on her face the entire time, as well as a scrunched up nose with the smell of the livestock.
Jensen came out with some papers, handing me a set for myself and then taking Jj, and handing her some papers. We sat down at a picnic table that was close by.
I smiled as Jensen quickly went through his papers and then explained to Jj what she was supposed to do. She was listening intently to her father, making sure to catch his every word.
I quickly signed my own papers after skimming through them. Jensen quickly finished with Jj and grabbed all of our papers and going back into the office.
"Ms. Y/n?" Jj's voice rang through my thoughts.
"What's up pumpkin?" I answered her.
"Do you like Jensen?" Her curios eyes were on mine, and she was intent on getting an answer.
"Of course I do, your father is amazing." I said, a smile on my face.
"No, not like friends. I know you guys are friends. Do you like him?" She insisted.
It was then I understood what she meant. For a youngster, she was very observant and smart for that matter.
"Well, yes I do. It's just complicated I guess."
"How can it be complicated? Just tell him." She said.

"He knows." I said.
"Well does he like you back?" She asked me.
"Can I ask you a question?" I quickly said.
"Yeah." She shrugged.
"Why are you asking all of these questions?" I squinted my eyes at her.
I hadn't noticed Jensen was making his way back to us. Apparently Jj hadn't either because the next words out of her mouth was like a bomb dropping.
"Because I want to know if it's okay if that I call you mom."

Jensen
Jj had just said the words that made my heart drop. She wanted to call y/n mom. She wanted to call Y/n mom. Mom.
Of course it was before she would even think of calling me dad, but I understood that it would take her time to call me 'dad'. She had met Y/n the same time she met me, and she already trusted Y/n enough to ask if it was alright that she called her mom.
I watch Y/n's response to the small girl. Her mouth was practically hanging open, and she stared at the little girl. Confused, excited, and alarmed flashed through her expressions before she noticed I was standing here.
She flashed me a quick smile, before leaning over to Jj, and whispering something in her ear. Jj nodded, and stood up with Y/n, grabbing her hand.
One of the women, Jeanine was her name, came out of the office to lead us out to the horses. It wasn't long until we were out on the trail, and Jj had been right next to Jeanine, asking millions of questions, and Y/n was right next to me with her horse. We rode in silence until she suddenly spoke up.
"Jj asked me something today. I wanted to talk to you about it first before I answered her." She said softly.

I already knew what had happened, but I kept my mouth shut. She continued.
"She asked if she could call me mom. She hasn't called you dad yet, so I didn't know how you would feel about it."
"If your okay with Jj calling you mom, then it works for me." I said, staring at Jj.
"Are you sure? I mean, I'm not even her parent, I'm just here with you two on this trip." She said, the mumbled something I couldn't hear.
"What did you say?" I asked her.
"Oh, nothing." She said, throwing a smile on her face.
"You know I can see through that."
"I was just wondering why you wanted me here in the first place."
"We've already discussed how I feel about you, truth is I couldn't just let you leave on those circumstances, and I need you. I want you here okay?" I said.
My heart broke hearing her say those words, and the words from yesterday struck through my head again. How do I know you're not lying to me?
"Okay." She whispered.
"Y/n," I paused lowering my voice. "If you don't want her calling you mom, that's okay. And if you want her to call you mom, that's okay too."
She stayed silent, urging me on.
"Think of it like this, she trust you enough to call you mom because that's how she thinks of you. As far as I know, she didn't call Danneel mom, so you would be the first. She looks at you like your her mom, because she trust you. So whatever your answer is she'll understand. She's a smart girl."
"But-" She started.
"Y/n, I'm not asking you to marry me. All I'm asking is that you think about it. If you want to be her motherly figure then go for it. You already know I love you, so if you say yes, then just think of it as you, me, and Jj, as a family."
She looked at me, her face blank, but I could tell she was surprised. I titled my head confused as to why she would be confused and surprised.
"You want me to be part of your family?" She whispered, her voice filled with shock.
"As far as I'm concerned, you already are."
