《The Ruels of My Heart》chapter five - your perspective

I didn't get much sleep last night. I don't know why. I usually sleep easily. But anyway, today I have decided that I'm heading to a beach. I don't care which one. I'm just dying to jump into some cold, refreshing, icy water. I have always loved swimming, I was a competitive swimmer when I was younger. Besides, I need to tan, and this hot summer weather is killing me inside my apartment. I have also decided that this move is my chance for a fresh start. I can finally forget everything that happened in Melbourne.

I pull on a tight and short white dress that mum bought me. I would never wear something like this back in Melbourne. It shows off my curves. But I keep telling myself that now I can wear whatever I want. I have my favourite bikini on underneath, a hot pink one that's possibly a bit revealing but I honestly don't really care. I've now stopped caring what people think. I love this new confidence I have, now that I'm miles away from Carson. Uh. I never want to see him again. I get a notification on my phone to say that my Uber has arrived, so I lock my apartment door and jump in the elevator. I walk across the luxurious marble lobby with expensive designer furniture, and see an old Mazda waiting for me and I jump in.

The sun is shining down on me as I slip off my dress. The beach is stunning, and packed with people. I don't hesitate to run into the glistening blue water. I feel so good. So calm and relaxed. I love the ocean. After about ten minutes, I hear a little kid scream from behind me. He is out super deep, and it looks like he is struggling to swim back to shore. Instinctively I start swimming towards him. Years of vigorous swimming training mixed with a huge burst of adrenaline makes me get to him in a matter of seconds. His face is super pale and he looks freezing. He looks about seven years old. The water is clearly very deep.

"Get on my back," I say. He scrambles on, his body trembling from the cold. As I turn around I see a blur of yellow and red, and I quickly realise it's a life guard boat heading towards us from the shore. I swim towards it, going much slower now that I have all this weight on my back, but still going as fast as I can. The next minute flashes by quickly, and then we reach the life guard boat. There are two lifeguards inside.

"Get in," one of them says softly but loudly. She grabs the young kid and helps him into the boat, checking to see if he's okay.

"Would you like a lift back to shore?" The other lifeguard says to me. I look up to him, and I feel a rush of something inside of me. "You did a great job saving this kid. Our boat was playing up, I would hate to think what would have happened if you hadn't got there." He says, smiling gently. His eyes are very dark, almost black, and his hair is golden brown. He is super tan, and he has perfect abs. So yeah, he is freaking hot.

I grin back, my heart thudding in my chest, and say, "Sure. As long as you take my hand and help me up."

Carson may have taken many things away from me, but not the way I love to flirt. I'd almost forgotten how much I do.
