《Every Night || Cody Bellinger》Nine

Madeline's POV- November 2017
I carefully made my way out of my room being as quiet as possible hoping not to wake Cody up. Last night had not gone as planned, and the Dodgers fell 1 game short to winning the World Series. All team members had to stay to speak with the media, and their team manager, Dave Roberts actually asked if I could talk with the team since I had somewhat been in the same position a couple of months back. When I walked into the room, I made my way directly to Cody who I pulled into a hug. After I hugged Cody, I got all of their attention. Losing sucked, and in order to get past this they had to learn from the mistakes they made. By doing that, they would fix the errors they made, and come back even stronger than ever. Now was the time to sulk, but they almost tasted victory and that's what was going to make them better players. When it was time to go home, Cody didn't want to go back to his apartment. Instead we ended up driving to my mom's house, and it took a bit but he was able to fall asleep.
"Morning" I greeted.
"Is Cody up?"
I shook my head and ruffled both Nate and Noah's hair as they mumbled a 'good morning'.
"No, I figured I'd let him sleep in" I replied.
He could use the sleep.
"That game was horrible to watch here, I bet it sucked live"
It was honestly painful to watch. After the 5th inning, some of the team just lost the morality that had kept them going through the post season
"If you want I can take them to school" I offered.
Mom smiled and shook her head.
"You actually have 2 visitors"
I raised an eyebrow and nodded when a pair of arms wrapped themselves around me.
"Hey roomie"
"Morning Will" I greeted.
He kissed my cheek and moved so Kasperi could greet me.
"I hope you don't mind, I invited them over"
Kasperi turned me around so he could hug me.
"How's Cody?"

"He's a bit bummed out, but he will be okay" I replied.
At least I hoped he would.
"Does that mean he's going back to Toronto with us?"
I shook my head.
"The baseball season isn't exactly over for him" I stated.
He had to be home when NL Rookie of the year was announced. There was no doubt he was going to win that award, and I agreed with his mom, he was going to get interviewed from the comfort of his family home.
"So when is he coming to Toronto?"
"After Thanksgiving" I answered.
"You're spending Thanksgiving in Arizona then?"
I nodded.
"Yup, we're having dinner at his parents and then going to dad's for the end of the night" I replied.
Mom smiled.
"Oh right, it was your father and his family who couldn't fly to see you"
My dad had accidently scheduled a surgery for Wednesday afternoon of Thanksgiving afternoon. Malin, my stepmom had a deadline which unfortunately was the Monday after Thanksgiving. Both were busy, and were unable to fly to Toronto. Mom was pissed when she found out, and even offered to 'switch' holidays with dad which pissed off my dad.
"Mom" I warned.
She shrugged lightly and took a sip of her coffee.
"Boys, why don't you go finish getting ready"
The twins stood up, and once they were gone mom looked at me.
"The only reason you even continued to swap holidays after you turned 18 was because your father wanted it"
Mom was right there.
"Your going out of your way to go to Arizona. Does he not realize that Toronto isn't in the United States? You don't have the day off, so that means you're missing school"
"My professor's wife is American, so she too will be out of town. She's prerecording a lecture and we just have to submit some questions and a summary on the discussion" I told her.
Kasperi butted in.
"Your professor is a lesbian?"
I looked at him.
"Does it really matter?" I wondered.
He nodded making William sigh and cover his face.
"We are just going to the living room"

Kasperi frowned as William tugged on his arm but followed him out.
"You have class on Wednesday"
"I'll just take a red eye to Phoenix" I stated.
She shook her head and sighed.
"You're too considerate"
I was.
"This isn't the first time he's done this Madeline"
"I know mom, but don't make a big deal out of it" I told her.
"Why aren't you having a joined Thanksgiving dinner?"
"Well that was the original plan, but Jennifer got mad when my dad forgot he was supposed to take that weekend off" I stated.
Cody's mom had every right to be mad. She had been texting Malin nonstop, and my stepmom was avoiding her. Jennifer had enough and made the trip to my dad's house where my dad was making his way out. She asked him about Thanksgiving day plans and he told her that Malin was handling it, so she told him that Malin had not been responding to her messages. Jennifer then reminded my dad that Thanksgiving day was only a couple of weeks away. Turns out dad had booked a surgery for the night before Thanksgiving, and apparantly he could not reschedule it. That pissed Jennifer off, so she told him to get his priorities straight which made my dad mad.
"God I love your inlaw"
"Thanksgiving dinner isn't even at dad's it's at a friend of Malin's" I brought up.
Mom snorted.
"I see she hasn't learned how to properly cook a turkey"
"She can cook other foods" I defended.
"Honey, it's not hard to prep a turkey and you know that because you know how to prep a turkey"
She sighed.
"Well I need to get the twins to school, and get myself to work. You and Cody stay as long as you want"
I nodded.
"You're here until Saturday, right?"
"Yes" I confirmed.
"Ok, well then how about I make us a nice dinner tonight. I'm sure Cody wants a distraction, and I promise there will be no baseball talk"
"That sounds nice" I admitted.
"Let me know what Cody wants for dinner, and I'll make it for him. Give him some spoiling before he heads home"
"Thanks mom" I told her.
"No problem, he makes my baby happy so I have to reward him"
She pulled me into a hug and kissed my forehead.
"I'll see you later"
"Bye" I called out.
I followed her, Nate and Noah out. Once they were gone, I walked back inside.
"Not that I mind, but why are you two here?" I asked.
William looked at me.
"We were hoping we could go eat some breakfast, but if Cody is asleep then Kap and I can go get us something to eat"
"I'll make you food, come on now" I said.
"You're the best"
They followed me to the living room where I made them a breakfast sandwich. Just as their Uber got here, Cody made his way down the stairs.
"Morning"
William looked up and smiled.
"Hey man, it's nice to see you"
Cody slowly nodded.
"Nice to see you too, both of you"
Kasperi smiled.
"We would love to stay and chat, but we've got practice"
Cody smiled.
"Congrats on the call up"
Kasperi snorted.
"I'll find a way to screw up and get sent back down soon"
Cody slowly nodded.
"Are you hungry?" I asked.
"I could eat"
His phone chimed.
"Do you mind if my family came over?"
"Of course not" I answered.
He nodded and looked down at his phone.
"I'll see you Sunday"
"See you Sunday" I called out.
The guys left and I looked at Cody.
"When is your family heading back to Arizona?" I wondered.
"Tomorrow"
I smiled.
"Great, tell them they're invited to come over for dinner" I invited.
He looked at me and nodded.
"Ok, yeah I'll do that"
"Great, let's get you fed then" I stated.
I followed him to the kitchen.
"How do you want your eggs?" I asked.
"Overeasy"
I nodded.
"Two?" I questioned.
"Three"
"Ok" I said.
"I'll make toast"
"It's ok, I got it" I told him.
He nodded and watched me make his eggs and his toast.
"There's bacon, do you want some?" I asked.
"Yeah, that would be nice"
I smiled and pulled out the 4 strips of bacon from the microwave.
"Did you eat?"
"Yeah, I had some poached eggs with toast" I responded.
He looked at me and cleared his throat.
"Thank you"
"For?" I wondered.
"For being you"

Galduta
What seperates beasts from men isn't the language we speak or any such drivel taught to us in school. It isn't the way we walk or our intelligence that sets us apart. Some would have you believe that it is our ability to think and reason that makes us fundamentally different from the creatures that inhabit the world. That way of thinking, my friends, is entirely wrong. What seperates us from them and them from each other, is simply the skin that we all wear
