《About the Boy || Cody Bellinger》Twenty Three

Madeline's POV- July 2017

I quietly closed the bathroom door hoping I wouldn't wake Cody up. When I looked up, I was met by two pairs of eyes, neither were Cody's.

"We got hungry, and we're out of waffles"

That made sense as to why my brothers were sitting on my bed.

"No one answered when we knocked, so we came in"

I had been in the shower for the past 15 minutes.

"How long have you both been in here?" I wondered.

"Long enough to notice one of Cody's eyes is slightly open"

Noah glanced towards Cody's sleeping form.

"Should we close his eye for him?"

I know he meant good, but I couldn't help but smile at the thought of Cody being woken up to Noah touching his eye. The chances of Cody screaming were high, and as fun as that would be it would also be mean. No one should be punk'd on especially while they sleep.

"How about you two go change, and I'll meet you downstairs in twenty minutes" I suggested.

Nate frowned because he knew the order was directed at him.

"What's wrong with what I'm wearing?"

"Well for one, you're not wearing any pants" I noted.

"Fine, the clock starts now"

And just like that, they both left the room. I made sure to lock the door before I climbed up on my bed. Cody was in fact asleep, and one of his eyes was slightly open as was his mouth. I smiled and reached for my phone. After taking a picture, I placed my hand on his shoulder and slightly shook him.

"Good morning" I greeted as he shifted on his back.

He hummed and took a deep breath.

"Morning"

He scrunched up his face as he stretched.

"Nate and Noah are hungry, so I'm going to make them something to eat. Do you want to get up and eat, or sleep instead?" I asked as he opened his eyes to look at me.

He yawned while sitting up.

"I'll get up and eat. I'm still trying to win your brothers over"

"You won Noah over already" I stated.

It was Nate who was being stubborn. Mom said it was because he was jealous of the attention I was giving Cody.

"I won your sisters over and I have nothing in common with them"

That was true.

"They just think you're pretty" I informed him.

"And I will gladly accept that, but Nathan hates me"

"I'll talk with him" I told him.

He shook his head.

"No, I will do this myself"

I smiled and kissed his cheek.

"He's just a jealous boy" I confessed.

"We can share though"

He leaned his head on my shoulder.

"What time is it?"

"11AM" I answered.

"Let's go eat Chinese food? I've been craving it since you snapped it at me"

I laughed as he pouted at me.

"The food in Toronto is so good" I told him.

"Sadly the Dodgers will not play against them this season"

"Maybe the post season" I replied winking at him.

If the Blue Jays and Dodgers met it would be during the World Series...fingers crossed...everything crossed.

"Don't I wish that happened"

He smiled.

"I have morning breath, but I want a kiss"

"Since when do you ask for a kiss?" I asked.

He grinned, slightly biting his tongue with his teeth.

"I'm a polite gentleman"

I kissed his cheek.

"That you are" I said.

"So Chinese food?"

He kissed me and hummed as he pulled away. Cody was a big cuddle bug, especially when he was tired.

"Let me ask the boys" I told him as he nuzzled his nose against my shoulder.

He nodded and let go of me so I could get out of bed. I knocked on Nate's door, which was closed and peaked into Noah's room.

"How about we go eat Chinese food?" I suggested.

"I'm okay with that"

"Let me ask Nate then" I replied.

I gave him a hug and kiss on the cheek before leaving the room.

"You wipe it, Ill kiss your cheek and wear lipstick to leave a stain" I called out.

The door to Nate's room was still closed, so being the older sister I was...I opened it.

"How does Chinese food sound?" I asked Nate who was tying his shoe.

He glanced and lightly shrugged. I took a seat next to him and he groaned as I pulled him into a hug.

"An answer would be appreciated" I stated.

"Chines food sounds good"

I smiled and squeezed him before kissing his cheek. While Noah groaned at my kisses, Nate accepted them.

"I just realized we haven't had a movie night in forever" I informed him.

"You've been busy"

"I always have time for you and Noah though" I stated.

I kissed his forehead and rubbed his back.

"Do you want to come to tonight's game?" I asked.

Cody invited me to the game, and I would be sitting with Ellen Kershaw in the family room. We were not ready to go public, so we'd watch the Friday night Fireworks from the dugout.

"We actually have the birthday party, the one that was postponed"

I nodded, and smiled as he scrunched up his nose. He didn't want to go, but mom had probably already told him he was going.

"There are other baseball game" I replied.

He nodded.

"Are you ready to go?" I wondered when I saw he was dressed, hair was combed and I could smell the spearmint from his mouth.

"Yes"

"Alright, I'm going to get my purse" I said.

"Is Cody coming?"

"He is" I answered.

I followed him out of the room and walked to my room where Cody was tying his shoes.

"Do your brothers want to come to tonight's game?"

"I asked, but Nate told me that they have that party for his friend" I replied.

"The one who got sick the day before Fourth of July?"

"That would be him" I confirmed.

Cody stood up and shrugged lightly.

"There are fireworks every Friday"

He smiled.

"At least the party is during the actual weekend"

That was very true, the original party had been on a Monday.

"So yes to Chinese food?"

"Yes" I answered.

His phone chimed.

"And Joc is asking what I'm up to"

"What time is practice?" I asked.

"3:30"

I nodded.

"Would you mind if I invited him"

"Not at all" I told him.

He looked back down at his phone.

"That way I can get a ride with him to practice"

Cody's car was at his apartment since Corey had picked him up for practice yesterday. He came home with me and spent the night.

"Sounds like a plan, let's head out so you can at least digest your meal" I said.

He chuckled and followed me out.

"Well good morning to you Poppy"

I smiled and Poppy who quickly hopped off his cat scratcher.

"I'm glad we are on good terms. Sorry for taking up your spot on the bed last night"

I glanced up as Noah and Nate made their way down the stairs.

"Ready to go?" I asked.

They nodded and I made sure Poppy had food before we left. My phone chimed and I pulled it out of my purse to see Kelsey had texted me asking if I was going to the game. When I replied yes, she asked me;

To which I answered,

Lunch went well, the guys had to leave early to make it to practice leaving me with Nate, Noah and Kelsey.

"Thanks for the ride"

"Don't mention it, you don't mind if we drop by home first? I need to drop off my brothers" I said.

"They can't make it to the game?"

Noah pouted a bit as he shook his head.

"We're being forced to go to a birthday party"

Kelsey laughed.

"There will be more games, the season is long"

I quickly dropped them off, and drove to Joc and Kelsey's place where her beautiful pup Blue was waiting.

"Hi girl" I cooed.

She began sniffing me and I laughed as she jumped on me.

"Blue! No!"

"It's ok, she probably smells Poppy" I said.

"Do you want something to drink?"

"Thank you, but I'm ok" I answered.

"I'm so full"

I nodded agreeing with her.

"How was Toronto?"

"I got everything set up for when I move in" I replied.

I scratched Blue's ears and smiled as she tried to lick my face.

"That's good, you'll be stress free"

Blue whined a bit as her owner got my attention.

"When do you start school?"

"Mid September" I answered.

"Lucky, I start in like a month"

Kelsey went to Cal State Fullerton where she was a Graduate student working on her Masters in Sports Medicine...or something like that. It was cute to see how much Joc supported her on her career. Sure his career could support them (and Blue), but she liked doing her own thing.

"Is long distance an option?"

I looked at her and surprised myself when I nodded.

"I'd like to think so. We're going to discuss that when the time comes" I answered.

She smiled.

"That makes sense"

"You and Joc were in a long distance relationship, right?" I asked.

"Yes, during my time at Duke"

Kelsey played Volleyball during her Undergrad.

"It was hard, but like Joc used to tell me; distance means so little when someone means so much"

"Who knew Joc could be so smooth" I admitted.

She laughed.

"He has his moments, they rarely happen though"

Maybe long distance could work. I had Kelsey and Mady as evidence that long distance relationships did in fact work out.

"So I googled you, and you will not believe the gem I found"

I scrunched up my nose knowing exactly what she was talking about.

"I was bored and I forgot I was mic'd up" I defended.

She threw her head back as she laughed.

"You played it off so well"

"I wasn't the only one singing, but I was the only one to get caught" I informed her.

The song I got caught singing was Titanium. When my teammate reminded me I was Mic'd up, I looked for the camera. Since the camera was pointed in my direction, I went with the flow.

"Well we def have to karaoke one of these days"

I knew I was not going to get myself out of it, but luckily I loved singing karaoke.
