《rosekook au.》Falling in Love 6/6

To be honest, Park Chaeyoung dreads this moment.

But her boyfriend, Jeon Jungkook insists on it, going to great lengths to plan a romantic night in the cinema room of his home, as they're snuggled against the couch even though the movie ended quite a while ago.

Being with him was so easy, and for the last few months, Park Chaeyoung has been treated like a true queen by him but she knows, that what happens in the next month will likely break them apart. Her friends used to tell her that "long distance is impossible, especially when we're so young" and that "unless you've been together for years, no couple can survive being in love in different colleges."

And so she promised herself the night before, that whatever happens– she'll be thankful. She promises to cherish the last month they have together before they potentially leave for their separate ways. Park Chaeyoung cried when they presented their last group project together, and she knows, she'll frame the photos from the upcoming prom as soon as it's over.

"Is your father coming to graduation?" Jeon Jungkook questions her as he slowly moves his hand towards her face, grazing at the side of her cheek gently.

She nods, "... he bought his ticket already."

"Last night, mom said she'll bring some people from the company to cheer you on if you need, and of course, my parents will cheer you on loudly– not that you need it since your little miss popular," he teases with a grin, "... when will your father arrive? Should I pick him up? I haven't formally met him..."

She likes it.

Park Chaeyoung enjoys the way his family accept her warmly as their own.

"There's no need, he has a hotel transfer free from the hotel," she informs him, "... maybe we can plan a lunch together though."

Just as she speaks, the alarm on her phone rings.

It was time.

He must've noticed the way panic washed over her face because within the next four seconds he wraps his arms around her into a hug.

Park Chaeyoung feels pressured, knowing that her father expected her to go to Melbourne or Sydney so that they could reconnect as a family or if not, to study in California where a lot of her father's coworkers worked in the top universities. Then she also knew that SNU was the closest to her home (as in the Jeons) but her dream, ever since she was young was to study in London.

Whatever she chose, she couldn't make everyone happy.

"You'll do great, let's look at them together."

Nervously, she opens her laptop and sees a new list of emails in her portal.

One by one, she reads out which email of acceptance (and one waitlisted scholarship) from SNU, Yale, Cambridge, RMIT, Stanford, USYD and UCLA.

Overwhelmed with feelings, tears run down her face.

"Babe, I'm so proud of you," he rubs her back, soothing her as she rests her damp face against his chest, "... you've worked hard. You deserve it all."

They stand like that for a few minutes until finally her crying stops.

"So which will you choose?" He asks her.

Only, he doesn't expect that she'll answer with a question of her own.

"How about us?"

Because as much as she loves South Korea and her amazing boyfriend, deep down, she knows her dream school is far, far away.

The pair sit in silence in the car as he drops her off at her apartment, yet neither leaves.

It only dawns on him at that moment, that in the next month, they'd likely be in different continents, and as much as she loves SNU he too knows that her heart was for a much different university.

"I'll accept the offer, for SNU," she whispers, "... they're offering the best conditions anyway, a full ride and guaranteed job–"

"Chaeyoung," he stops her, unbuckling his own seat belt as he turns to look at her, "... do you know that no distance will ever stop us?"

It hurts him to watch as she gives a small pout before tears begin falling, "... but what if we break up because I'm too far from you?"

"We won't, we're stronger than that," he assures her, knowing that he'd admired her for long enough to know that someone like her was a one-of-a-kind, "... I'll visit often and you can come back for the holidays."

"How do you know that we won't break up?"

Jeon Jungkook runs his fingers through his hair before reaching for a small box that he had stowed away in the back of his car.

"I wanted to wait to meet your dad and ask for his permission, and I wanted to properly get down on one knee once we've both graduated," he tells her, watching as her mouth drops wide when she realises what he was doing, "... but will you make me the happiest man in the world and marry me, Park Chaeyoung?"

At this point, Park Chaeyoung is balling her eyes out, barely coherent as she mutters, "... but– but– are you sure you want this? You want me?"

Jeon Jungkook smiles, "... I've never been so sure my entire life, baby."

Right there and then, he puts the ring on her finger.

"I want to show the world you're mine, even if we're a zillion miles apart," he tells her, "... my fiance."

She leans in and kisses him, hands still shaking from shock.

"I guess you have another dress to worry about," he jokes, knowing how stressed she was about picking their matching prom attire, "... your wedding dress."

When he gets home, he's bombarded by his mother who notices the change in her son's demeanour instantly.

"You asked her, didn't you?" She questions, crossing her arms together as she scolds him, "... I told you to do it on the helicopter or restaurant!"
