Park Chaeyoung thinks that it's funny, that the world always somehow finds a way to surprise you.

For her entire life, she'd lived her life without a father. Ever since she was young, it always had been just her and her mother against the rest of the world and so when her mother died, she really felt as though she'd reached her lowest point. Just starting high school in a foreign country under the home of relatives she didn't really know well, she felt as though she had a difficult time. Park Chaeyoung felt as though she was constantly crawling her way through life, trying her hardest to be enough.

And perhaps, that was one of the reasons why she took the figure as the mother figure so naturally—always leading group works, becoming the student president, making sure that no one gets left behind.

But that was the thing about being everyone's support—everyone forgot to see how she was.

She was there for others, and cared for them, so that she could forget about herself.

So when she got a call on her personal number just as she arrived home after (indirectly) being rejected by her crush, she felt a million emotions all at once. Her birth father had tracked her down by coincidence, asking her whether it was true.

She learns in one single call that her mother had lied and told him that she'd gotten an abortion, likely because he was actually engaged to another woman at the time. But life has a way of surprising you, because one of his friends worked for one of the top schools in the United States of America, and saw his name in one of the personal essays for future scholarship students. The gentleman joked and somehow, her birth father couldn't help but wonder—whether it was true.

He bought her a plane ticket on the spot and the rest happened so fast that she didn't really get time to digest it all.

She thinks she's lucky, because surely—she wouldn't be able to bear the shame of being rejected by Jeon Jungkook.

Park Chaeyoung sits on the flight back to Seoul (because she is unable to take a leave for more an a week, due to her scholarship conditions) and her father too, has a work trip. But her father's words keep playing on her mind.

"I know it's sixteen years too late, but I'd like the chance to make things right."

Park Chaeyoung is an independent woman, yet somehow—she wants to reconnect with him too.

When she returns to campus, she begins mentally calculating everything that she missed and needs to catch up on: student council meetings, festival schedule finalising, homework, and of course—her groupwork with Jeon Jungkook.

Amid all the chaos, she'd barely had time to think of him only replying three days later when he asked her to have another study date for the final part of their assignment. Nevertheless, when she passes a souvenir shop in the airport with a black cap with a mini outline of a kangaroo, she can't help but buy it.

And so, as she walks inside with the cap in her bag, she can't help but notice a crowd gathered on the other side of the classroom.

"Chaeyoung you're back," Lalisa Manoban exclaims as she rushes to her friend, wrapping her arms for a warm embrace as the other two girls followed, "... are you okay? You barely responded to our texts."

"I am, I'm sorry I've been busy," she responds sheepishly, hugging the other girls before giving them the small giftbag of goodies she's bought from her trip, "... I went to Melbourne."

Jennie Kim smiles as she accepts the gift, "... oh? What for?"

"My father, reached out," she responds, causing for Jisoo Kim to choke on her own breath.

"What?" She questions, looking to her friend with concern, "... is everything okay?"

She nods, a tired smile on her face, "... it's a long story."

The bell rings, indicating the fact that it was time for everyone to get into their seats before the homeroom teacher comes in.

"What's with the crowd?" She points as they begin walking to their usual seat.

"Oh," Jisoo Kim rolls her eyes, "... your group partner. Jungkook got a haircut and everyone's busy simping over him."

"Unnie, you're forgetting the part that you were too when you first saw him yesterday!" Lalisa Manoban exposes, causing for Jisoo Kim to glare at her, "... what? It's true!"

Park Chaeyoung turns to see him, just as handsome as she recalls from the night she saw him.

He indeed, looked handsome.

His hair was still long in the front, pulled to one side, but the sides were noticeably shorter.

And somehow, Park Chaeyoung feels more insecure.

-

He's just a boy, you'll meet plenty of them in college!

She finds herself in the rooftop of the school building, laying down on her back as she watches the clouds in the sky.

It's the first time she's ever skipped a class, yet somehow—she couldn't tolerate it anymore. She'd heard the other girls in class fawning over him, talking about how they hoped he'd ask them to prom.

Park Chaeyoung tried to go over to him, but each time, it was impossibly by the wave of girls surrounding him as though he were a superstar.

Stupid girl, this is why you should've focued on your studies.

"I didn't take you as someone who'd ditch class, that sounds more like me," a familiar, deep voice speaks before her mindlessness is awoken by the sight of his face against the sky, hovering over her, "... is this your hiding spot?"

In a panic, she quickly moves up and fixes her skirt, still feeling small beside him because of how tall her was in comparison.

She really does think that he's built different than the others.

Not now Chaeyoung!

"I'm a little jet lagged," she lies sheepishly, "... I'll come to class soon."

Her eyes are careful, keeping low on his shoulder.

"Why won't you look at me?" He questions, bringing his finger gently below her chin before carefully lifting it up, "... I haven't seen you in a week and you're ignoring me."

Taking a deep breath, she looks at him. He wears a wide smile, a little too confident than her liking as he looks at her with the dazzling eyes that really—were impossible not to fall for. His hair cut should be a crime!

"I'll go to class first," she clears her throat before bending down to get her bag, only to feel his fingers wrapped around her wrist, stopping her.

"I'm sorry, you're just too cute. You're too easy to tease," he chuckles, "... I missed you."

"I re—what?!"

She turns and sees him, and suddenly his arms are around her as he hugs her. Park Chaeyoung wonders if he can feel her heart beating.

"I left something the day you left," he tells her.

Her brow lifts in confusion.

From her memory, he hadn't been in her apartment.

Until suddenly, he brings his lips and kisses her, so much that she doesn't even think to close her eyes.

"This," he tells her, "... I like you, Park Chaeyoung. Let me take you on a date, this weekend."

That was the time that Jeon Jungkook, took her first kiss.

-

Mrs. Jeon believes that the prayer circle with her connect group friends worked because her son not only finally cuts his hair, but returns home hand-in-hand with Park Chaeyoung.

"Mrs. Jeon," she acknowledges, bowing to her before handing her a box of Australian chocolates, "... I'm sorry it's not much—I didn't have much baggage space, it was a last minute trip."

She accepts the chocolates excitedly, "... oh please this is too sweet thank you. And I see my useless son finally won you over?"

She thinks it's cute to watch as her son blushes a deep red, matched by the colour of Park Chaeyoung's cheeks of course.

Ah, young love.

"Mom we're going to finish off the rest of the project tonight in the study room," Jeon Jungkook reports to her, "... and later I'll take Chaeyoung for dinner and drop her home."

She nods, watching as the pair dismiss themselves as begin walking upstairs.

"Leave the door open!" She yells from downstairs.

As much as she would love to have grandbabies, she believes they need to get married first!

-

The pair finish their work within the first hour and decide to sit down and rest for a bit before dinner. Jeon Jungkook is strumming the guitar on the couch, while Park Chaeyoung rests her head against the table, watching her new boyfriend from afar.

"You know, you're so cute when you're jealous," he randomly mutters causing for her to move upright.

"I was not jealous!" She quickly exclaims.

"You were, you're too easy to tease," he tells her, "... you don't have to worry, I only cut my hair because I knew you were coming back."

Jeon Jungkook puts the guitar down but continues sitting on the couch.

"But I'm disappointed," he tells her, "... you got everyone a gift but not me."

"I got you something," she tells him, "... but I don't know if you'll like it."

She leans down to get her bag as she reaches for the cap, holding it up as she slowly walks to him, wondering whether its normal for her heart to be beating this fast.

He looks at her with a smile, as though he were up to no good.

"I like it, put it on me," he asks her, "... and then let's go for dinner."

He gets up from the couch, but doesn't move his feet. Just as she's about to put it on his head, his hand reaches for her waist and pulls her in for another kiss.

She blushes in surprise.

"See, you're too easy to tease."

From afar, Mrs. Jeon is peering through the hallway, wondering since when did she raise such a shameless son!
