《old coffee and cigarettes》Chapter One

"If you are not too long, I will wait here for you all my life."

— Oscar Wilde

Eddie slowly opened his eyes. It felt as though his heart was thumping in his head and someone had stretched out his limbs until they ached. Groaning, he took in his surroundings. The world was spinning, all blur and haze, and he couldn't tell which way was up and which was down.

Rubbing his eyes, he slowly sat up. His surroundings gradually became clearer and he realised that he was lying on his couch in his trailer. A few more blinks, and he noticed the mess of the place. Empty beer bottles lay discarded on the coffee table and floor, books and papers scattered everywhere and the stench of old coffee and cigarettes lingered in the air, refusing to leave.

Eddie squinted, trying to recall the events of last night. No luck. Sighing, he got up and went over to the kitchen to make a fresh cup of coffee.

Suddenly, there was a knock on the door.

Eddie ignored it, hoping whoever it was would just leave. He didn't want anyone to see him like this.

The knock persisted, louder this time.

"Jesus," muttered Eddie, setting his mug down, "I'm coming, geez!"

He stumbled over to the door and swung it open.

"Oh, it's just you," he said, making his way back to the kitchen.

"Lovely to see you too!" said Robin in that cheery way of hers.

Ever since the whole business with the Upside Down and Vecna, Eddie and Robin had been spending a lot of time together. Maybe it was her carefree attitude or maybe it was just the fact that she didn't give a fuck what people thought of her, but Eddie loved spending time with Robin. He regarded her as a sister, a shoulder to cry on, possibly the closest friend Eddie had ever had. And he knew he would do anything to protect her.

"Eddie is everything okay?" she asked, staring at him with concern. "You don't look so good."

Eddie slumped down on the couch again, coffee in hand. He tried his best to smile.

"Yeah, I'm alright, just got a bit carried away last night, you know?"

Robin opened her mouth to say something, but no words came out. She shook her head slightly then took the mug from Eddie and finished its contents in one gulp.

Then spat it back out.

"Ugh, this tastes terrible!" she spluttered.

"Well I didn't ask you to drink it."

Robin rolled her eyes.

"Come on," she said setting the mug down and striding to the door.

"Where are we going?" Eddie asked.

He didn't even know if it was possible to go anywhere. His body ached and his headache was only getting worse with every passing minute.

"To get a decent cup of coffee!" Robin declared.

Eddie groaned and slammed his head down on the couch. He knew he couldn't say no.
