《Cigarette Duet (Jonah x Adam)》Chapter 10

Jonah had finally finished his tutoring session and walked out of the classroom, heading towards the main doors. He'd felt bad that he couldn't drive Adam home, but this was something he'd originally signed up to do just to get away from his dad. Now that his dad was gone until Saturday, he just felt tired. Twirling his keys around his finger and not paying attention he made it to the main doors. "Surprise!" He nearly jumped out of his own skin as he was tackled by someone, someone he hadn't noticed. Regaining his senses, he looked up and noticed it was...Adam? What was he still doing at school? He didn't have any tutoring programs that Jonah was aware of. "Shit, Adam! What're you still doing here?"
"Eh, I thought I'd wait for you to finish up tutoring. I was bored as hell, anyway."
"Man, you really waited all that time just for me?"
"Well, yeah."
Jonah sat up and pulled Adam into a hug, which he quickly reciprocated. The two stood up and Jonah grabbed ahold of his keys again. "My place or yours?" Adam asked, not sure if Jonah even really wanted to hang out.
"Well, your place of course. You have a cat."
"Is that why you still go over to my house, you prick?!"
Adam jokingly punched Jonah in the shoulder as the two walked out of the main doors and into the student parking lot, desolate and absent of all but a few cars by this point. The two got into Jonah's car, with Jonah of course opening Adam's door for him. Jonah quickly started the car backed out of the parking space, leaving the school grounds and heading towards Adam's house. Things have honestly changed so much between the two, and while Jonah had liked Adam for the longest time, now he got even more nervous around him. Looking into his eyes and his beautiful freckled face was a sight he'd never get sick of. Honestly, everything about him was perfect and he wouldn't trade him for the world. All the recent affection he's been receiving hasn't helped him feel calm either, since that proposes the possibility of Adam liking him back. Obviously he wouldn't, I mean why would he? But still, it was a nice idea. Adam was the only person he felt fully safe around, fully loved by. He loved every single thing about him, God he was so amazing. Nobody could ever even compare to him. Not any person or thing. The only thing just as good as Adam was the affection that Adam gave him. Nothing could ever make him feel the way Adam made him feel, and he was okay with that. Jonah reached over to his CD collection and grabbed a specific CD. Adam felt like Jonah playing any music in the car was like playing Russian Roulette, but to his surprise Kickstart my Heart began to play throughout the vehicle. Jonah gave him a warm, gentle smile that made Adam feel like his heart had been kickstarted. It made him think about how Jonah had mentioned that he'd wanted this to be the song he had his first kiss to, which made his mind race...fuck, there was no way he could even deny or rationalize this feeling.
Entering Adam's house, the two boys immediately tossed away their school stuff. Neither of them felt like doing anything, they'd already discussed that they just wanted to hang out. Jonah sat down on the couch as Adam picked up his bag. While Jonah was busy looking through every picture he'd taken on their camera, Adam looked through what looked like music notes. That's when Jonah came across the picture Adam had taken of him and the cat, the night that Jonah was kicked out and staying at Adam's place. He smiled to himself, his heart fluttering. This was the CUTEST photo he'd ever fucking seen, even despite seeing himself in it. He felt so happy that Adam took this picture, since it meant that he probably found it either cute or funny. Whatever the case, his face was heating up due to the overwhelming emotion. "I see you found the photo." Jonah jumped and looked at the blonde, who was standing right behind him. Adam laughed a bit at his reaction, walking around the couch and sitting next to the boy. He took his opportunity to lean his head on Adam, which Adam didn't object to. He instinctively wrapped his arm around the boy, in which Jonah leaned further into him. The two were practically cuddling at this point but they didn't even pay attention to that. They'd done this a lot recently, and neither had any objections to it. Adam grabbed the remote off the arm of the couch and turned on something, more so as background noise. The two shifted positions enough to wear Adam was laying his head on Jonah's chest with Jonah's hand holding his head close. Adam could hear the heartbeat of his close friend, inconsistent and fast-beating. Jonah carefully ran his fingers through Adam's hair, which made him smile in response. Suddenly, Adam sat up and looked at Jonah, who looked back at him with an alarmed expression. "Hey, uhm...do you have any weed on you?" Jonah gave him a confused stare but quickly caught on, giving him a mischief-filled grin. "Hell yeah I do! Always. You wanna try some or something?" Adam nodded shyly (not in an "uwu shy boy" way stfu), he'd never smoked before. But he wanted to at least try, and since Jonah was here, why not try it now? Jonah walked over to his bag, unzipping a smaller pocket and pulling out a plastic bag. Adam shifted uncomfortably, unsure how to feel about this. This was the first time he'd really smoked anything. He tried smoking tobacco in seventh grade but that was fucking awful. Jonah sat back down and pulled out a joint from the bag. "How do ya wanna do this?"

"...however is the right way, I suppose?"
Jonah laughed at that, grabbing one of his cheap lighters out of his coat pocket. "Just light it like you would with a normal cigarette, I suppose is the 'right' way." He handed Adam the lighter and blunt, grabbing one for himself as well. Now this freaked Adam out a bit, since he knew he couldn't take it slow NOW that Jonah was waiting for him. He held the blunt up to his lips and flicked the lighter a few times, eventually lighting it. With his hand shaking, he lit the blunt and handed the lighter quickly back to Jonah. Hesitantly, he took a hit; not really sure what to expect, honestly. Somehow, he managed not to choke. Jonah took a hit of his as well, though he was definitely more smooth than Adam. Within minutes he already felt odd, a feeling he was NOT used to. "Oh God, I really just did that..." Jonah is laughing at Adam's response, but gives him a reassuring side-hug. "It'll wear off soon enough, don't worry about it." The two continued to smoke for another 10 or so minutes, when suddenly Jonah looked like he had an idea. "It's getting kind of dark, do you wanna go back to that lake I showed you? With the fireflies? As odd as it sounds, it's a lot more fun when you're high."
"Hmm..." Adam thought about that for a second, not really sure. Then, he remembered something he'd been wanting to show Jonah, and this was the perfect opportunity. "Sure, why not? Quick question though, can I bring my guitar? I wanna show you something."
"Oh hell yeah, absolutely!"
Adam smiled, standing up so fast that he almost fell, if it weren't for the help of Jonah. "Be careful, dude, don't wanna kill yourself before we even get out of the living room."
Adam glared at Jonah before heading to his room to grab his guitar. In the meantime, Jonah grabbed his car keys off the coffee table. He stood by the door, and about a minute later Adam came out of his room, guitar in hand. Jonah flashed him a toothy grin before opening the door, the both of them leaving the house.
The drive there was full of friendly banter, and borderline flirting. Neither of them were in a normal headspace, that much was obvious. By now the sky was a beautifully dark shade of indigo, stars scattered like freckles, which reminded Jonah of Adam. Jonah had turned off the car and left, waiting for Adam to grab his guitar. "Man, tonight is even nicer than the last time we were here! Don't ya think?" Adam finally grabbed his guitar and left the car, looking up at the sky. "It's pretty, but I've seen prettier."
"Like what?"
"...I'll tell you later."
"Oh come on!"
Jonah laughed hysterically as Adam grabbed his arm and led him back to the spot they had gone once before. The lake came into view, the beautiful moonlight scattering across the water surface gently. The two sat down, Adam getting his guitar out of its case. "So, what's this cool thing you wanted to show me?" Jonah asked, the curiosity eating him alive. Adam smiled at him and exhaled sharply. "Well, I know you like that one song, 'Kickstart my Heart.' So, I took it upon myself to learn how to play that song on acoustic guitar. It was a bitch, and it's not perfect, but I know you've been going through a lot lately and maybe this can help."

"Shit...Adam, you learned that just for me?"
"Of course I did. You know, you say that a lot, but there's stuff that's humanly impossible that I would somehow figure out how to do, just to see a smile on your face. Now, you wanna hear it?"
"Of course, man."
Jonah scooted over to Adam a bit more, still giving him enough room to play comfortably. Adam took a deep breath before he began to play. The chords were so beautiful, they sounded amazing. However, Jonah's heart fluttered when Adam began to sing along to the song too. He really learned the lyrics? Just for him? Adam really was dedicated to making Jonah, and by God he was succeeding. Hell, he didn't have to try hard, or at all. Just being around Adam made Jonah happier than anything. And now, he gets to hear his singing voice. And God it was beautiful. His voice was so smooth, so angelic, so amazing. Jonah could barely even comprehend anything outside of Adam. He was awestruck. When Adam got to the chorus, he looked at Jonah with one of the most beautifully soft and loving smiles he'd ever seen, especially off of Adam. Jonah was so overwhelmed with emotions that his eyes began to water, but not in a bad way. He had NEVER been so happy, so in love. Adam sang the song so beautifully, Jonah didn't even have words. No sound could compare to his voice. Even without air, water, or food, Adam's voice alone could keep him alive, and that's all he needed in life. When Adam stopped playing, he looked over at his friend. Jonah's eyes were tearing up from how overwhelming and surreal this experience was, and Adam saw it. Carefully, he held his hand up to Jonah's face and gently wiped the tears from his eyes with his thumb. Before Adam could move his hand away from Jonah's head, he leaned his head into the palm of Adam's hand. Adam looked a bit surprised, and Jonah almost immediately regretted what he had done. However, Adam began to caress Jonah's cheek with his thumb, looking at him with the most loving eyes he had ever seen. They smiled at each other as Jonah used his hand to keep Adam's in place. Staying in that position for only a few minutes felt like years, but in a bittersweet way. Suddenly, Adam seemed to get...strangely emotional. For Adam standards, anyway. Jonah looked at him and raised his brow, wondering what was wrong. Adam looked off to the side, mumbling a bit. "Hm?" Jonah questioned him, Adam looking up in response.
"I honestly don't know...man. I have so much to say."
"Then...say it."
Adam hesitantly removed his hand from Jonah's face to put his guitar away, probably to make sure it wasn't distracting. He looked back up at Jonah, who gave him a reassuring nod.
"...honestly, man. I don't know where to start. We've known each other for so many years, hell you've been one of the few people who stayed by my side for so long...you were there and still are there for me when nobody else would be. I just...genuinely, Jonah, I have so many words to say, but no amount of words can amount to how much I want to thank you...you mean the world to me. More than anyone ever has. You've made me feel more loved and cared for than anyone else has, despite our ups and downs. I don't know what I'm trying to say...so much has happened lately, some bad, some good. But you always managed to turn it into a good experience. I wish I was better with words...like you. Your words are just...everything you say is something I will never get tired of hearing. You always have so much to say and I admire that. I admire you. I don't know what I'm trying to say...I don't know the right words...but..."
He looked into Jonah's beautiful brown eyes, and staring back was the shocked, yet emotional face of his best friend. Adam finally found out the words he was trying to say for so long..the words he never had the courage to say.
"I love you, Jonah."
The silence was almost deafening, the only sound breaking the air being the water flowing. Jonah just sat there, still as a statue. Adam's heart was racing, he felt like such an idiot for saying that. Maybe if Jonah didn't feel the same, he could say it was platonic...however, something finally broke the silence outside of the water.
"Adam, I love you so fucking much...I love you too."
He felt Jonah's arms wrap around him, and immediately grabbed him and squeezed him, as if at any moment he'd be taken away from him. He ran his fingers through Jonah's messy silver hair and he felt Jonah gripping onto his hood. Both of them were crying now. They'd both been in love with each other but too afraid to admit it. And here they are...both of them, finally getting the courage. All Jonah could mutter was "I fucking love you so much..." as Adam held him tighter and tighter. The two finally slowly pulled away enough to look at each other. Adam held Jonah's face in his hand that was previously in his hair. Jonah looked like he had a question, and finally spat out "Can we...uhm..."
Adam didn't catch on at first, but he finally got Jonah's drift. Almost as if they switched personalities, Adam gave him a mischievous grin before pulling his face close. Their lips met almost immediately, as both of them melted into the kiss. The softness of each other's lips drove them both crazy. Adam wrapped his arms around Jonah's neck as Jonah held him close, both of them almost losing themselves. Finally pulling away, they just looked at each other before laughing. Both leaned in for another, shorter kiss. Jonah then planted kisses all over Adam's face, however Adam did the same. "God, Marshall, I fucking love you. I love you so fucking much, you have no fucking idea."
"Well, then I'll tell you a secret. That poem I showed you was about you."
"...I kind of assumed that. How many people with blue eyes do you actually know?"
"Touche, Adam."
He laughed at Jonah's blushing face, before gaining a more serious tone. "Well...what are we now?"
Jonah looked up, as if lost in thought. "Well, that depends. Are you ready to call us...official?"
"Honestly, yeah."
"Then let's do that! Adam, will you be my boyfriend?"
The surrealness of the situation was hitting Adam, he felt as if this wasn't real. He discreetly pinched himself, yep, this is real. He sighed and looked at Jonah. "Yeah...fuck yeah, I will!" He pulled Jonah in for another kiss as Jonah stood up and pulled him up as well. When they stopped, Jonah spun Adam around a bit while giggling to himself. "I'm so fucking happy, Adam...you've made my life so liveable and you've kept me going for so long. I love you so fucking much, you absolute dork." Adam lovingly punched the boy in his shoulder while chuckling, running his fingers through his silver hair. "And I love you more, you slob."
"Hah! I guess we're even then!"
Jonah put Adam down, and Adam reached for his guitar. "You ready to head home, Jo?"
"Yeah, I'm exhausted. Let's go."
He grabbed the blonde's hand, leading him back to the car.
The drive home was one of the most peaceful they'd had.
The clock read about 2:45 in the morning, and the two boyfriends had finally gotten settled in Adam's bed. Jonah had Adam pulled close to him, with Adam being close enough to hear his heartbeat. He loved it though, he loved hearing that. Adam's cat, who he lovingly renamed Theo (after Jonah's last name), had crawled onto the bed and slept in the empty spot that they had left. Before falling asleep fully, Jonah planted a gentle kiss on Adam's forehead, muttering an "I love you." He closed his eyes and as Adam drifted off, he quietly whispered back.
"I love you too."

8 388The Forgotten One
Hey there everbody. This will be my second upload to Roll 20. Unfortunately I wasn't able to continue my previous one due to life and what not but I'm now back and have a some what new idea I've been kicking around for years. We'll see if i head back to my other fiction due to having things calming down. And like always I'm open to constructive critisims. Any way on to the synopsis. The world as we know it is gone. Torn from everyone due to two major things. First and foremost a biologica lweapon that no one wanted to take credit for after it was released and couldn't be stopped (a zombie virus of sorts) and the way that many nations thought to stop it from spreading was to destory everything they could ofcourse that didn't include them selves. So there the world was in a mexican standoff with hundreds of countries with hundreds of nuclear weapons just dareing one another to make the first move. Once again no one knew who started it but it didn't matter once it started the world was doomed. In an attempt to save people some scientists began working on a way to cryogenically frezze people so they could surive the on coming armegedon. The problem was before they could begin testing it on humnas the nukes began launching. In a bid to save them selves a family gave their youngest son to the scientists as a test subject. He had already been infected by the virus weeks before the nukes were being threatened and still retained his humanitiy. After being betrayed by his family after telling them of his ability to stay him self and a few things the bio weapon had changed in him physically he was sedated with enough drugs to kill a whole pride of elephants and forced to take part in the experiment. The last thing he remembers was watching his world close around him (his cryo pod) and his family's face of sadness but also hope in the fact that them betraying him may give them a chance to live. This is a fan fiction in which many aspects of one of my favorite games will be quiet prevelent. It will be obvious to those who have played it but for those who may not the game i'm going to be baseing some of the things in this novel is called Prototype. And no I do not own the rights to the cover. If the creater would like for me to pull it down please messege me.
