《Talk About the Direct Approach...》Chapter Thirteen: Birthday fun- Part one

Slipping out of bed quietly as I can, so I won't wake the sleeping angel, I step out of the room, phone in hand. I dial the number quickly as I enter the living room, far enough away that I won't have to worry about waking Macy up.

On the fourth ring, someone picks up.

"Hello?"

"Mom, I need your help."

Macy's birthday is today, and I want to do something special. The problem is that I have next to no idea what to do. Something romantic I guess. Which is why I need help. Running an entire pack of wolves? I can do that without a hitch. Being romantic? Not so easy.

"What is it dear?" My mother asks in her usual motherly tone. That tone is about to change though, I'm sure. I'm prepared to get an earful from her, considering this will be the first time she hears about me finding my mate.

"Well, I kind of need help planning a surprise for someone special..."

Tami had insisted I wear a nice dress today, but she refused to tell me where we were going. She woke me up this morning with a big breakfast, and informed me that since I did oh-so-well yesterday and got permission to leave, we would be heading out soon. I was slightly disappointed when I woke up and Cayton was gone, but then I remembered he had to work and didn't know it was my birthday anyways.

I still had a goofy grin on my face as I got dressed. After I had convinced him to let me out today, we stayed in bed for the rest of the day, doing absolutely nothing. Well, there was some talking, but mostly kissing, and after I took a shower, I came in and he had already fallen asleep in my bed like the other night. That time however, I didn't hesitate to crawl in next to him.

Now, I'm admiring myself in the mirror, fussing over every little detail. Since I have no idea what we are doing, I don't want to be underdressed, but at the same time I don't want to overdress. I hope that what I have on is casual, but fancy, enough.

I'm wearing a cute blue sundress that flows to my knees, with a black half-jacket. My dark brown hair is in soft curls, and I even went a little crazy and put makeup on. I have a big 'no makeup during summer' rule I follow, but I thought What the heck? It's my birthday and I want to look good.

"Macy, you look amazing!" Tami gasps as she steps in. She herself is in a plain green ruffled tanktop and jean capris, looking far more casual than I am.

"Its not too much is it? I mean, you look pretty casual..."

"No, it's just perfect." I nod and do a once-over myself in the mirror, before following Tami out the room.

"So... are you going to tell me where we're going?" I question.

"Nope," she adjusts her white purse on her shoulder, then grabs my hand. "Now come on, Hunter is waiting in the car!"

"I had to get all dressed up to go to the mall?" I ask as we step out of the car. I feel out of place, considering that most of the girls around my age are in short-shorts.

"No, you had to get dressed up for part two. This is part one," Tami explains. I turn to Hunter and he just shrugs.

"Don't look at me; I'm just here to drive you ladies around. Happy birthday by the way." Over half-an-hour in the car with him and this is the first time I've heard him say it. I roll my eyes and mutter a thanks.

The first stop on my birthday trip is to get our nails done. Well, mine and Tami's anyways. We try, but Hunter refuses to get a pedicure. I get my fingernails painted in a blue that matches my dress with a white flower painted on the thumbs.

"Oh god, I'm so sorry!" I squeal, as my foot twitches for the fifth time. The poor lady doing my feet has to work around my twitching, all the while dodging a few spasms.

"You're ticklish?" she asks. Well, if it wasn't obvious enough.

"A little bit..." She makes sure to be extra careful from then on, and I manage to keep my spasms at a minimum. Tami is laughing her butt off, as is Hunter. Then, I find the remote on the side of the chair, which controls the massaging feature on it.

"Ttthhhis iiis awesome," I say.

"Consider this your present from Carter and me," Hunter says.

"Tttthaaanks."

Finally, our nails are dry and we go to our next stop. I was hoping for something along the lines of the indoor laser-tag arena, but Tami drags me into Victoria's Secret instead. She insists that I buy some cute—what she calls cute, I call impractical—nightwear, since I let it slip that Cayton and I have shared the same bed for the past two nights. She said it was only a matter of time before something 'happened', and she wants me to be dressed accordingly.

It was embarrassing, considering Hunter had listened in on the entire conversation, but Tami didn't know the meaning of the word embarrassment.

"Do you have some sort of fetish with this store?" I ask. Every time I have been to this mall with her, she has forcibly dragged me in here.

"How can you not?"

"Like this," I point to myself, before I turn to walk out.

"Ah ah ah, you need to try this on first!" she demands, grabbing my arm to stop me from leaving and shoving a lacy babydoll top in my hands, and the matching lace bottoms. Oh, please, shoot me.

"Are you kidding me?! I might as well sleep naked!" I hand it back to her, staring at it like it's going to eat me.

"I bet Cayton would like that even better."

"I don't like you, you know that right?"

"Sure you don't. Now, go!" She shoves it back in my hands, leaving no room for discussion on the topic. I know that if I don't at least try it on, she will physically force me into it. So against my will, I step into a changing room and try it on.

Ok, I will admit that I do look rather sexy in this, but it isn't something I would actually wear to sleep in. Mostly because I will never feel that confident. And I tell Tami exactly that. So she bought it for me, of course.

The last stop on my magical birthday-mall-adventure, after we pay for everything I'm forced to buy at Victoria's Secret—Tami says it's her and Trenton's gift to me—is in the food court. There they present me with a cookie cake. That, I enjoy very much.

"Why do you get the piece with the most icing?" Hunter whines.

"Because I'm the birthday girl."

"But shouldn't you be worrying about calories or something?"

"Are you saying I need to?" I ask, feigning hurt.

"No! I was just saying that... I- not that you need to-" he stutters.

"Calm down, I was joking dork," I laugh. He scowls at me, and then gives me the finger. "Oh, love you too asshole." He smiles cheekily and I roll my eyes. I have always wanted a brother and I assume it would be something along the lines of this if I had one. I've come to consider Tami my best friend in the short time I've known her, and Hunter was making his way up to brotherly status.

Annoying brotherly status at that.

We get rid of the trash and Tami announces she has to make one quick stop in a store before we leave. But we're not allowed to come. She goes on her merry way, leaving Hunter and I alone in the crowded food court.

"Where do you think she's going?" I ask. I attempt to recreate the Leaning Tower of Piza with folded napkins, failing miserably.

"Probably to get that pair of shoes she saw," he shrugs, checking out two teenage girls who pass by.

"Do you know where she really went?" I question, scrutinizing his face carefully.

"No..."

"Liar!" I declare, a little too loudly. He jumps at my sudden outburst, along with the five other tables surrounding us.

"What are you talking about?"

"I can tell you're lying. When you lie, you break eye contact."

"I do not!" he defends, breaking eye contact for a split second.

"You did it again."

"Go away," he mutters. I gasp, feigning hurt once again.

"Fine, if you insist. I'll be in the bathroom." I get up and walk away, not sparing a glance back.

"Wait up!" he hollers. I snicker when he comes up behind me.

"Come to join me?" I tease.

"Funny, but no. You're not going to try and run away right? Cayton told me you were sneaky..." I roll my eyes. Of course Cayton would say that. Did he honestly think I was going to leave now? No way. Just the thought of leaving him hurts now. It's crazy and unexplainable, but its how I feel.

I would even go as far as saying I'm starting to fall for him. He kidnapped me, and then he kidnapped my heart.

Oh good god. That sounded cheesy, even in my head.

Nevertheless, it's true.

"I could never leave you Hunty!" He grimaces at my nickname for him, making me laugh. I leave him standing outside the girl's bathroom, standing guard by the entrance awkwardly.

That giant glass of orange juice this morning wasn't a good idea. I think my bladder is about to explode.

Once what's done is done, I wash my hands and check my hair and makeup in the mirror. It's a good thing I did, because somehow, I managed to get icing not only on my cheek, but in my hair as well. Only me, I think, shaking my head at myself. It's great that Hunter was going to let me walk around all day looking like I ate the cake with my face and not my hands.

"Has Tami come back yet?" Hunter shakes his head and we go back to our seats. I'm really curious as to what she needs to get, but I figure I will find out soon enough. It probably is some shoes she saw, and I just happen to be terrible at lie-detecting.

I've learned that Tami is an impulse buyer. If she sees something she likes, or something is on sale, she has to have it. That's why Trenton was so reluctant to give her his credit card. The poor guy is probably going bankrupt. But he loves her too much to tell her no.

You could just see the love in their eyes, and I was honestly jealous of it. It was like they were the only two people in the world they see. I hold on to the hope that I'll find someone like that someday. Who knows, maybe that someone will be Cayton.

I personally don't think I'm good enough for him. Yes, I know every girl most likely says that at least once in her life, but I think it's true. Sure, he may have kidnapped me, be too serious for his own good sometimes, and have quite the temper, but his quirks only make him better. He's also caring and smart, not to mention unbelievably good-looking.

Then you have me. Surely he can do better. And when he realizes that, I'm going to be dropped like trash.

"Are you ok? You're looking kinda depressed right now." Hunter flicks my nose, gaining my attention and ripping me away from my thoughts.

"I'm fine. Just, thinking." I smile in assurance.

"About?"

"Stuff," I shrug. I don't want to think about it right now. It's my birthday; I should be enjoying it, not worrying about being dumped by someone who I'm not even with.

"You know that you can talk to me, right?" Hunter says. A genuine smile lights up my face and I nod.

"Aren't you just as sweet as cherry pie," I coo, messing up his hair. He swats my hand away and scrambles to fix his hair, muttering something undeterminable under his breath. "Oh come on pretty boy, its just hair," I giggle.

"And it takes a lot to get it to look this good," he grumbles. I roll my eyes--teenage boys and their hair. He's more worried about his hair than I am about mine. Just to annoy him, I mess it up again and laugh like an idiot when he frantically tries to fix it.

"I'm back!" Tami chirps.

"About time. What did you get?" I ask. She is only carrying her large white purse, where she must be hiding whatever it is because her hands are lacking bags.

"Mm, stuff. From places," she says nonchalantly. I want to get it out of her just from sheer curiosity and my massive nosiness, but she interrupts me before I can. "Come with us, my dear Macy. It's time for part two!"
