《Christmas Wish (Completed)》Chapter 2

I am living on barely any sleep, but I can't close my eyes and waste any precious time with Nicolas. He is my pride and joy. Never in my life as a parent would I have thought I would be here in the hospital with my son who has cancer.
Nicolas is only seven years old and we just found out a few weeks ago he has cancer. When I took him to the doctor to see if he hurt himself at school, I never thought we would have got a cancer diagnosis within a few days. After extensive blood work Nicolas was diagnosed with myeloma, which is where his plasma in the bones turn cancerous. It is rare and so far doctors don't know what to do to help him.
Earlier a nurse came in informing me of interns coming in and asked if I was fine with it. Which right now I don't care as long as my son can get the help he needs.
I lost my wife three years ago when Nicolas was barely four. He doesn't remember his mom much at all but I try to tell him about her and he watches videos of them together when he was a toddler. Nicolas is all I have left.
My life was a sad one growing up in foster homes. I met my wife there and we made a life together. She had a heart condition we never knew about until her unexpected death.
Tony, who is the only friend I have left from the foster home where I met my late wife, comes to check on us daily several times to bring food trying to get me to eat. Right now, he is holding up my photography business and I am extremely happy he is able to help with the workload and never complains. Tony is like Nicolas's uncle and my boy even calls him uncle.

There is one thing I want for Christmas coming up and that is for my son to get help he needs to where he can live the long and happy life he deserves. That is the only Christmas Wish I have right now.
A knock comes on the door and I reply for them to enter. A doctor walks in.
"Good morning, Mr. Winters. I am Dr. Marshall and I have a few interns with me if it is okay with you we would like to go over his case and vitals."
"Sure." I nod, holding on tight to Nicolas, who is half asleep and half awake. Not having much energy this morning, it is one of the harder ones he has started having.
My eyes catch one of the doctors and hers hold so much remorse looking at us.
"Dr. Calista. If you would please walk the rest of us through this." Dr. Marshall looks back.
The lady steps forward and it hits she is Dr. Calista. Sure, she is pretty enough no one would have thought she would be a doctor and she looks young. Not that I can talk, I am a thirty year old widowed father, with a sick child.
"We have Nicolas Winters, age seven. He was admitted a week and a half ago for myeloma. The oncologist is monitoring his case." Dr. Calista steps up.
"May I, check his vitals?" Her voice is so soft and gentle, it is like I am in a hypnotisis and just nod.
"Hi, Nicolas. I am Dr. Calista and I am going to tickle your wrist a little." She softly speaks, and frowns when he doesn't repsond.
She just won more points since how most doctors ask me but never actually talk to him even if he is mainly out of it.

Every move she makes and does is told to Nicolas moreso than me, as I watch closely. Even her touch on my son is gentle like he was made of glass, but at the same time extremely thorough.
"Pulse of eighty-nine. Respiratory rate of nineteen. Temperature of nintey-seven point eight." She reads off and all of the interns scramble on a clipboard.
"What would you conclude from those vitals first hand." Dr. Marshall steps up slightly and looks Nicolas.
"He is in more of a resting state with the calm relaxing breaths he is taking making normal with his age." Dr. Calista smile down at Nicolas gently.
"Very good. What would be the next course of action Dr. Calista?" Dr. Marshall smirks slightly.
Dr. Calista takes a breath and looks at her computer before looking to Nicolas.
"I would like to have his blood work redrawn for more labs, depending on their results. Along with speaking with an oncologist to see if he is legiable for a starting treatment." She looks to Nicolas and myself.
"We will get the blood work ordered to be drawn within the next thirty minutes." Dr. Marshall walks with the rest of the interns out, but Dr. Calista stays rooted in her spot.
"Mr. Winters, I am sorry this is happening to your son. We will do everything in our power to help your son." She says with determination out of everyone I have spoke with here as a doctor before.
"Thank you." I choke out.
Dr. Calista walks out of the room, and I see when the oncologist doctor jerks her over to the side by her arm, before the door closes.
With my eyes narrow, I get out off the bed and walk to the door. I open it quickly, but I can't see them anywhere. I close the door back and let out a sigh.
Dr. Calista does not deserve the treatment I just seen by the oncologist at all. It honestly makes my blood pressure raise, he shouldn't do that to her not when she is much sweeter and her bedside manners are better than his ever was especially since I have seen him once since we have been here.
Another knock on the door right at fifeteen minutes later is our nurse, Jewels.
"I am here to get some bloodwork that Dr. Calista ordered." She smiles sweetly.
I sit on the chair as she gets the blood and wonder how can such a small body keep giving so much of it out.
"I will get these to the lab and they should be back within a few hours with results and let you know what the next step will be."
"Thank you." I nod once.
"Is there anything you need Mr. Winters?"
"No I am okay."
Jewels walks out with the blood. Now there is nothing I can do but hold my son and wait.

DISCLAIMER!!!!!!This book is probably very bad! Who am I kidding? there's no probably, it's very bad. There are probably some things that don't make sense or don't add up, and the writing in the first chapters (or all) is bad.I know I have improved but this was just a warning, so I don't get cussed out in the comments. Lol, jk. I wrote this when I was younger (I hated editing) so there are a lot of mistakes with capitalizing, punctuation, sentence structure etc.Read at your own risk. You were warned.************Excerpt. The pounding of my head could be heard from a mile away. I closed my eyes tightly and tried not to focus on the pain. I was becoming irritated by both the headache and the stupid chains. I opened my eyes and looked over at my sister, she was sleeping with her head hanging low. I looked away from her and pulled on the chains, ignoring the migraine I'm pretty sure I have. This is just pure cruelty, I really prefered staying in the room. I looked around the room, for what felt like the millionth time within this hour.I took a deep and long breath before I just let my hands hang to the sides of my head in the chains. My breathing slowed and I closed my eyes. When I opened my eyes a while after I noticed that someone was in the room. "What are you doing in here?" I asked.~~~~~~~~Highest Rank #1 in General Fiction.New cover made by @lexusloveangels. Thanks again, I love it.
