《Soaring High - Discontinued》Chapter 8

It had been a couple weeks since the Blockbuster incident and life had more or less gotten back to normal. Percy and Dick spent a lot more time together in their civilian identities, but still patrolled together almost every day. Dick was, if someone like him even could be, ecstatic. '

But that feeling was definitely going to fade soon. Christmas was only a few weeks away and Alfred, being the grandfatherly figure that he is, organized a sort of family reunion for the Batfamily and Dick was dreading it. Not because of the sheer arguing that went on between the brothers, or that someone was probably going to end up with a broken something, or even the fact that their most bloodthirsty addition, Jason, was going to attend. No, it was only because, since it was their first Christmas together, Dick had wanted to do something romantic for Percy and she had been excited about it once he told her.

He still had yet to break the fact to her and he hoped she wouldn't be too disappointed.

Percy was thinking of the perfect gift to give Dick since he was going to do something romantic for her. And knowing him, it would most likely be over the top. Her mind was racing through the possibilities but it was quite difficult, seeing as she didn't want to give him anything materialistic, like a new car. Perhaps an enchanted weapon similar to Riptide... She could give his escrima sticks a godly upgrade...

Yet...

It didn't seem right.

She was broken out of her thoughts by someone, most likely Dick, knocking at her door. She opened it to let him inside. He kissed her briefly before pulling back with an almost guilty look on his face.

Percy raised an eyebrow.

"Well...Don't hate me for this...but Alfred called me for a Christmas family reunion or sorts and he was insisting that I come and well...I said yes. Can you come with me?"

He hesitated to her reaction and was pleasantly surprised when she laughed.

"Of course! Jeez, Dick, why would I be mad?" she said, her eyes sparkling with childish excitement, "I get to meet the Batfamily!"

Dick laughed with her as he internally sighed in relief.

"Thank god.-" he was about to say more when his police radio crackled to life, informing him of a robbery.

"I'm sorry," he sounded apologetic.

"Gods, Dick, don't be. Go do your job," she said pushing him out the door but not before he managed to sneak a kiss onto her cheek.

"See you soon!"

Percy laughed.

And suddenly an idea started to slowly piece together in her mind and she vapor traveled away.

She reappeared in a silver and black throne room, decorated with skulls, gems, and the occasional daisy. A giant black throne sat in the back center, sucking in all, if any, available light. The ceilings were high and daunting and the rooms echoed with the ghostly whisper of the dead. She would have shivered if she hadn't been familiar with this scene.

"Uncle!" she shouted, "I know you're here!"

Hades, the god of the dead, appeared in front of her, shrinking down to her size.

"Persephone Jackson," he raised an eyebrow, "What brings you to the underworld, my niece?"

"A gift... for a friend."

"For a friend... or a lover?" he asked suggestively.

Percy blushed. "Does it matter?" she said hotly.

Hades chuckled. "And what is this gift, may I ask?"

Percy hesitated then explained.

The Lord of the Dead's eyebrows shot up to his hairline. "That's quite a lot to ask, not to mention, it bends many rules. And what makes you think I'll agree to this?"

Percy was on much, much better terms with Hades than when she was younger and she was his favorite niece, but it was going to take more than a puppy dog face to get what she wanted. She straightened up and lifted her chin.

"Because you owe me."

"Oh? How so?"

"After the Giant War," she explained, internally wincing a little, "I wished you and Hestia thrones on the Olympian Council. So now you owe me," and then hurried on to say, "at least this."

"I guess I do owe you," Hades contemplated, but Percy could see he wasn't fully convinced.

"And I'll work for you for 2 weeks," she added, "I'll collect escaped souls, fill out paperwork, settle small rebellions, that kind of stuff, as long as it doesn't involve killing." That was where Percy drew the line.

"That would be extremely helpful. I'd have more time to spend with my Persephone that way," he weighed the trade in his mind, "Alright. Make it 3 weeks and you've got yourself a deal."

Percy grinned at the win and hugged Hades around the middle. "Thanks, Uncle!"

He awkwardly hugged her back for a few seconds before clearing his throat.

"I'll give you half an hour to say your goodbyes and make up your excuses for this internship, so to speak. After that, you'll stay 3 weeks in the Underworld. After those days are up, I'll get you what you want."

Percy nodded in agreement.

"I must say, this boy is quite lucky to have someone like you who is willing to do this for him," Hades commented.

Percy smiled shyly in thanks and vapor traveled away.

When she arrived back at her apartment, Dick was waiting for her. As soon as she appeared, he hugged her tightly.

"Where've you been? I was worried!" he exclaimed, checking her for injuries.

Percy smiled at his over protectiveness and rolled her eyes at him.

"Relax Dick, I'm fine," she assured him.

However, Dick noticed something was not quite right with her.

He frowned, "What's wrong?"

Percy sighed. "It's not really that something's wrong, but I do have to tell you something."

Dick nodded for her to go on.

"Well, I have to work for Hades for 3 weeks and I have to leave in like 20 minutes."

"What?" he exclaimed, "Why do you have to work for Hades?"

"Okay, long story short, I owe him for something he's going to do for me and I volunteered to work for him to pay that off," she explained.

Dick furrowed his brow. "What do you owe him?"

Percy bit her lip. "I don't want to lie to you, so I'm just gonna say I can't really tell you at the moment but when I get back, I promise it'll all make sense."

Dick sighed and pulled her into an embrace. "Fine," she said, stretching out the last part of the word until it was almost comical, "But 3 weeks is such a long time!"

He was almost whining and Percy couldn't help but giggle. Giggle. Gods help her, she was turning soft!

"It'll be over before you know it, Dick," she assured him, "Try not to die while I'm gonna, will ya?"

She popped into her room to grab a pack and fill it with clothes.

"It'll be tough!" Dick called from the other room.

Percy finished packing and went back to where Dick was standing.

"I know you can make it," she replied pecking him on the lips.

Dick held her there, kissing her deeply, before letting her go.

"See you soon, Seabird," he said reluctantly.

Percy smiled at him. "See you soon, Nightwing."

Then she vapor traveled to the Underworld.

Dick sighed deeply, opening the door to his apartment. The last few weeks without Percy had been boring, to say the least. He missed her and her smile. She was meant to be back any day now, and Dick couldn't wait for that day.

He walked into his living room, only to see Percy already sitting on his couch, napping.

"Percy!" he exclaimed shaking her out of her sleep.

Her eyes immediately snapped open and she pounced on him, looking at him through lidded eyes while she held a knife to his neck.

She wasn't even fully awake, Dick observed laughing.

"Dick?" she asked, realizing what she was doing. She put the knife away and pulled him up and into a bear hug which he returned in equal force.

"I missed you," he sighed into her hair.

"Yeah, well, you're not the only one," she retorted, her grip on him slacking and he realized she was falling asleep again.

He picked her up and laid her down on his bed, pulling the blanket over her.

"What's up with the yawning?" he asked.

Percy narrowed her eyes. "Hades in terrible, a monster!" she exaggerated, "Making me do all this paperwork and the constant vapor traveling to collect souls. I once went back and forth from here to Europe and Asia like 27 times in one day," she grumbled and complained.

Dick laughed. "Poor you," he mocked, to which Percy glared.

"I hope it was worth it then," he noted.

Percy got a small smile on her face.

"It was."

Dick didn't push the subject, although he was dying to know.

"Well, you get your rest because tomorrow we have to go to the Manor. It's Christmas Eve," he added after seeing her confused face.

"Already?" she groaned.

"Yep."

Percy grinned.

"Then you should get your rest too," she said.

Dick smirked at her, climbing under the covers as well, both of them falling asleep in each other's arms.

The next day, Percy vapor traveled the two of them to the Wayne Manor. Alfred greeted them at the door, his eyebrows raising at the sight of a girl with him.

"And who is this, may I ask, Master Richard," he spoke.

Percy snorted at the title.

"Alfred, meet my girlfriend, Persephone, but she goes by Percy. Percy meet Alfred, our butler extraordinaire," he introduced

Percy laughed and shook Alfred's hand.

"Please to meet you, Persephone," he replied.

She was about to correct him, but Dick whispered, "Don't even bother, he still refuses to call me Dick," to which Percy pouted.

"Master Richard, would it be, ah, wise to bring Persephone here into the Manor? Master Jason just arrived a few moments ago."

Percy winked at Alfred. "It's okay, Alfred, I know."

He looked at Dick. "It's true Alfred, she knows."

"Alright, well then. Welcome to the Manor," he said, stepping aside allowing Percy and Dick to pass through.

He was greeted by a younger teen flying at him, wrapping his arms around his waist.

"Dick!" Tim greeted happily.

"Hey Tim!" Dick replied.

A younger, grumpier boy stayed a couple feet back.

"Grayson," he acknowledged, snifling, his nose pointed high in the air.

Dick rolled his eyes and pulled Damian in a mock headlock, ruffling his hair while the young boy scrambled to get out. When Dick let him go, he huffed, and tried to fix his hair and his dignity.

Then Tim noticed Percy. "Hey who's this?"

"Still as stupid as ever, Drake, I see," Damian scoffed, holding his hand out to Percy, "Nice to see you again, Persephone."

Percy stifled a laugh at the formal language and corrected him, "It's actually Percy, Damian."

Damian nodded, "My apologies, Percy."

Percy grinned smugly at Dick's reaction to Damian's politeness.

Tim glared at Damian. "Shut it, Demon Spawn. But really, who are you?"

Dick opened his mouth when someone rounded the corner.

"Golden Boy," a voice sneered and Dick winced.

"Jason," he nodded.

"Don't Jason, me, Dick," he hissed, "We all know exactly how you feel about me."

"Come on, Jason," Dick replied, "Stop acting like this is my fault. You're the one who's killed-"

"Oh yeah? You know what, I think I'm itching to kill again."

"Bring it."

As the two brothers were getting ready to fight, Percy, Tim, and Damian were watching the fight in such a way, that they would be munching on popcorn if they had any.

"You know," Percy commented off-handedly to the 2 younger brothers, "This reminds me of the time, my brother, Chris, tried to kill me, or my sister, Kym, and my other brother, Triton. Two of my uncles, as well, actually."

"Is attempting to kill your siblings a common thing to do," Damian ask, genuinely curious.

"I'm not sure, I mean my family is always trying to kill each other. But I guess it shows in their own twisted way that they love each other," Percy offered.

Damian nodded in agreement.

"Well, until they actually succeed in killing each other. Then there's isn't quite "as much love," Percy added as an afterthought.

Damian nodded again. "That makes sense. That is how it is like in our family, I think."

Percy hummed in agreement. "It does seem like that, doesn't it?"

Tim just stared.

"I should probably interrupt this fight."

Tim stared some more.

"Yes, yes you should. I'm quite fond of Grayson and I would prefer him alive. He's the only one here with any sense."

Tim was doing a lot of staring now.

Percy stepped in front of the brothers, who were in the middle of beating each other up.

"Dick," she scolded him like a child, "Aren't you going to introduce me?"

Percy looked pointedly at him.

Dick saw what she was doing and shot her a grateful look. He slipped out of the fight and gestured to Jason.

"Percy, this is my brother Jason and Jason, this is my girlfriend Percy."

Behind them, Tim's jaw dropped and Damian laughed at his expense.

Jason stopped the fight and raised an eyebrow.

"You managed to get a girlfriend like her?" Jason sounded disbelieving.

Dick glared at him.

Percy nodded. "I know, crazy right? Even I was surprised."

Dick spluttered. "I thought you were on my side?"

Percy laughed and waved a hand at him. "You're so silly!"

Jason smirked, obviously checking her out. "Oh, I like her."

Dick glared at Jason, hard.

Finally, Tim stopped staring. "Come on! Bruce is gonna be home any minute now and we can eat the feast Alfred cooked!"

Every single person in the room knew exactly where Bruce was, patrolling early so he could spend the night with the Batfamily.

Percy cocked her head. "Why isn't he here yet? He doesn't have work on Christmas Eve, does he?"

Dick had to bite the inside of his cheek to keep himself from laughing. Damian, on the other hand, had no problem at all keeping a straight face.

Percy was also smiling on the inside. Tim and Jason looked so uncomfortable.

They all glanced at each other and Dick and Damian played along.

When no one raised their voices and Percy was looking at them expectantly, Jason spoke up.

"He was out. Buying, uh-"

Tim jumped in, "Wrapping paper, for the gifts!"

Percy thought for a second before pretending to buy it.

Then, "I gotta pee!"

Tim jumped up and ran in the direction of Thomas Wayne's old study.

He caught Bruce just as he was exiting the cave from the grandfather clock.

"Quick, Bruce! Get some wrapping paper!"

"What?" the Dark Knight paused.

"Well Dick brought his girlfriend Percy who asked where you were because it's Christmas Eve and she didn't think you had any work so Jason and I made up a lie about you having to get wrapping paper from the store," Tim took a breath here, "So now you need wrapping paper otherwise she's gonna be suspicious and then she's gonna find out!"

Bruce stared at his adoptive son. He shook his head and then decided to play along, not seeing the harm in this.

"Alright."

He grabbed some gift wrap from, who knows where, and the two of them headed back to the rest of the family.

"Look who I found!" shouted Tim.

Percy nearly laughed when she saw the wrapping paper in Bruce's hand.

"Hey, Bruce," she said, instead.

"Nice to see you again, Percy."

Percy definitely saw the similarities between him and Damian.

"You know her?" Tim asked.

"We met once in Bludhaven," Percy explained.

"It was quite eventful," Bruce added, to which Dick and Damian snorted.

"Am I missing something here?" Jason asked.

His question went ignored but Bruce greeted him.

"Jason, I'm glad you joined us this year."

Jason merely scowled.

Alfred came around the corner.

"Dinner's ready."

They all headed to the dining room, Dick and Percy trailing behind.

"You're insufferable."

"You like it."

Dinner was eventful, to say the least. There were arguments, competitions, storytelling and Bruce even ended up getting mash potatoes flung onto his face. And not to forget the pretending that Percy didn't know anything about their double life. Every time Tim tried to talk about his adventures with his Young Justice team, he had to censor more than half the words, in fear of Percy finding out. Not to mention, Jason making wildly inappropriate insinuations directed towards Percy that Dick did not at all appreciate.

At one point, it got so bad that Dick flung a fork at Jason's face, almost hitting him in the eye if not for the other boy's quick reflexes, which called for another joke. Tim just glanced uncertainly at Percy, who continued to laugh at the fight. Tim wondered if Percy was sociopath and he suddenly felt very worried for his brother.

After dinner when they were moving into the living room, Dick and Jason ended up getting into another fight. Jason, being the violent brother that he is, pulled a knife at Dick. (He would have pulled a gun, but they were banned from the Wayne Manor.) While Damian and Bruce were concerned about Dick's life, Tim kept glancing at Percy who was watching the scene with an unreadable expression, another reason why she was obviously a sociopath.

"Jason, Jason," he hissed.

"What?" he replied, finally looking at Tim, thoroughly pissed off.

Tim jerked his head to the right, where Percy was standing.

Even Jason knew the importance of keeping a secret. He put away his knife, having the audacity to even wink at Percy while doing so. Dick again, glared at Jason while the boy receiving it and Tim glanced at each other, not sure what to do.

"Oh don't stop on my account," Percy said, "This is interesting. Besides, you're not holding the knife in the best way possible."

Jason, slightly insulted but refusing to show it, momentarily forgot the situation his was in and took the knife back out.

"Really? Then tell me, babe, how should I be holding it?" he flirted, brandishing the knife in the air.

"Well, loosen you're grip a little and twist your hand a couple degrees to the left. It'll be easier that way and you can get a better grip. And, it'll be harder to take from you," Percy commented, completely ignoring the jab, much to Jason's disappointment.

Tim was staring again.

Dick was having a hard time deciding whether to yell at Jason or laugh. Damian and Bruce just looked amused.

"How would you know that? Actually, I'm not surprised. I bet a knife isn't the only thing you can handle..."

Percy smirked. "I do know that if you hold it like that, it'll be easier for me to do this."

Percy kicked his hand and Jason dropped the knife. He reached down to grab it again, but Percy kneed him in the face, grabbed the knife and expertly took him down. She put the knife to his neck.

"And that's what I know."

Jason stared in shock at Dick's girlfriend. What just happened?

Percy laughed a little and removed the knife. She pulled him up and handed it back to him. He was definitely thrown off his game.

"What the hell?!" Tim shouted.

"Language, Master Tim," Alfred but in.

"Sorry," Tim muttered before turning back to Percy, "But seriously, who are you?"
