《Soaring High - Discontinued》Chapter 7

The trio of heroes dropped down silently from the ceiling. Dick immediately rushed to Percy, who didn't seem to be awake. Bruce and Damian stayed back, their senses alert for the villains they knew would come.

"Seabird!" Dick whispered frantically. He tapped her cheek until she regained consciousness. She groaned softly and lifted her head, meeting the whites of his mask.

"What's up 'Wing?' she tried to smirk, "Fancy meeting you here!"

He sighed in relief. The sarcasm and humor meant she was okay. Behind him, he heard Damian snort.

Percy regained her bearings and her expression became serious.

"You shouldn't have come," she said, "Blockbuster paid Deathstroke to kill you and you know what that means."

Dick did. Deathstroke never failed an assignment. He worked only for money and did not stop until either he or his target was dead.

"We'll think about that later," he shook his head, "Right now, we have to get you out of here."

He quickly sliced through her restraints and steadied her, as she was in no condition to fight. Before they could escape, Percy stopped him.

"You need to get this off," she insisted, tugging at the metal collar around her neck, "It's equipped with a shocking device. Otherwise, I won't be able to leave."

DIck understood immediately and took out a small tablet. He attached wires to the collar and the tablet. His fingers flicked across the keyboard for a few seconds before the collar emitted a small hiss.

"I disabled the shock system and removed the collar of its power inhibiting capabilities. Just keep it on, in case."

Percy sighed in relief and nodded. "Element of surprise and all that. Got it."

"Let's go," Damian hissed at them from a few feet away, "You can catch up later."

They quickly made their way to the exit, but the lights immediately switched on and the giant room became illuminated.

The trio of villains entered the warehouse, Blockbuster clapping his hands slowly.

"What a surprise! Ya know, I was planning on killing a total of 2 people today, but you guys just made my day a whole lot brighter."

This time, Dick attacked first.

He growled and lunged first and Blockbuster, who seemed only slightly surprised at his actions. Batman took on Deathstroke and Damian took on Saiko. Dick had anger on his side, which gave him extra strength against the huge villains. Batman, knowing Deathstroke's fighting style was able to hold him off for quite a while. Saiko, who had revenge on his mind, was pretty much evenly matched with Damian, though neither of them could subdue the other.

While they were occupied, Percy quietly slipped to the side and healed herself internally with the water molecules in the air. She made sure that she still looked bruised and battered from the outside, as not to raise suspicion. She took out Riptide from her pocket which she hadn't been able to reach before and joined Dick in battle.

He didn't even blink an eye at her return, but the villains were taken aback. Bruce and Damian had enough sense to not let themselves get distracted.

The heroes used this opportunity to land blows on the trio. Percy and Dick quickly knocked Blockbuster to the other side of the room, his head slamming against the wall with a painful sound. Bruce then gave the illusion that he was losing to Deathstroke so he would let down his guard slightly. Percy sneaked up behind him and threw him to the ground. Damian dodged Saiko's claws and pulled out a sword, slicing the metal extensions in half. While Saiko gaped, Damian delivered a sharp kick to the side of his head.

Bruce grabbed Percy and Dick and shoved them towards their exit. He motioned Damian to follow them.

"Go, quickly," he instructed.

Nightwing started to go up first, but before he could, several things happened in the blink of an eye.

Deathstroke got up, and seeing as he no longer had a clean shot at Nightwing, pointed his gun at Damian instead and pulled the trigger.

Percy, acting in pure reflex, only thinking about how Robin could not die, leaped in front of him and took the attack in his place. Nightwing stared in horror. Percy had taken a bullet to her stomach, one that would have hit Damian right between his eyes.

He ran to her side, while Damian looked shell-shocked. Bruce internally fumed and positioned himself in front of Dick and Percy's figures.

"Percy," whispered Dick urgently, shaking her very gently, his face stricken with grief, "Percy please, no no no. Wake up, Percy, don't do this to me."

He could feel her heart beating at an impossibly slow speed, but there was no answer. Damian hunched over them, trying his best to console his adoptive brother.

Deathstroke positioned his gun at Dick, this time, huddled over Percy. Saiko was awake too, urging Slade to pull the trigger. Batman attacked them both, but only Saiko responded, leading Bruce away from Slade. Batman tried his best to take him down, but Saiko was determined to keep Bruce busy. Out of the corner of his eye, he saw Deathstroke's finger twitch slightly.

"No!" he yelled, as the gun fired.

Only...

It didn't happen like that.

The gun didn't fire. Saiko stopped to stare and Bruce quickly finished him off before going back to trying to figure out what happened. Deathstroke frowned in disbelief. His guns didn't jam, and everyone knew that.

Suddenly, his gun began freezing over, starting with the end and working its way down to the handle. Slade dropped the gun when it burned his fingers, but the ice didn't stop. It began creeping its way up his fingers and he desperately tried to shake it off.

"What the hell?"

Damian looked down to notice Percy awake, although barely, pointing a finger at Slade.

"Nightwing," he warned and the older boy looked up.

He saw Percy and nearly hugged her in relief before remembering she had a bullet in her stomach.

The girl groaned before carefully sitting back up, one hand still in Slade's direction and the other on her wound. Everyone watched and she summoned a ball of water and placed it where her hand was. Her face regained a little color and she dropped the ice. Percy summoned a tentacle of water and directed it towards Batman who dodged it before realizing it was meant for Saiko, getting up behind him.

"That guy just won't stay down," she commented lightly as if she hadn't almost died. The water wrapped around his body and pinned him to the wall, where it solidified into ice, trapping him there.

She conjured more water, but instead of trapping Deathstroke, she picked him up by the leg and swung him around a few times before finally cuffing him.

"That was for the bullet," she coughed and Dick laughed in relief as the adrenaline left him, "By the way, how much did Blockbuster pay you to help him?"

Deathstroke glared at her but answered, "1 million dollars, little girl."

Percy ignored the jab. "I'll pay you a million and one dollars if you leave us alone. I'll put the money in your account by tomorrow?"

Deathstroke seemed to think for a moment. "Fine."

Damian outright gaped and Dick facepalmed.

Batman shook his head and ushered them out of the warehouse, just glad that they were all alive.

After a whole lot of explanations, reunions, goodbyes, and a shit ton of thank you's all around, Dick led Percy home.

When they ended up in an apartment that was not hers, she was confused but didn't voice it.

After he had situated her on the couch, he peeked into the kitchen and returned a minute later with a plateful of cookies. He sat down beside her and put the plate in between them.

"Welcome to my place," he said, grinning, despite the earlier events.

Percy furrowed her brow for a moment before smirking. She leaned comfortably into his side, looking up at him.

"I know where you live now. It's only a matter of time before I figure out the man behind the mask," she said playfully.

She was joking, Dick knew for a fact, but he wasn't.

"I'll save you the trouble."

Percy's eyes widened slightly.

"Nightwing, you don't have to-"

Dick stopped her right there. "Yes, I do. And I want to. Listen, what happened tonight, I can't guarantee it won't happen again. I can't lose you, Percy, but I can't guarantee that either. And that's why I need you to know how I feel. I love you, Percy, more than anything, and I want us to have a life together. Which can't happen if you don't know who I am."

Percy's eyes were shining with unshed tears, as she tried to blink them away. She gripped his hands tightly and nodded.

"And besides," he added, with a small light laugh which came out sounding funny due to the emotion in his voice, "I discussed it with Bats and he's cool with me telling you if that's what you're worried about. He trusts you with the secret, and that's a pretty big accomplishment for someone who met him a few hours ago."

Percy also let out a small laugh, partly because of what he said and partly because she was nervous. She slowly loosened her grip on his hands and reached up to touch his face. Her fingers lingered in his soft hair, and his cheeks before going to the edges of the mask.

She slowly lifted up the corners from both sides and closed her eyes when the mask dropped into his lap. His hands found hers and she finally looked at him.

Percy saw deep azure eyes who stared back at her with the same intensity. At once glance he was perfect, a sharp jaw, defined features, beautifully colored eyes. Then she saw the slight bags under his eyes from worrying, the very small collection of bruises that ghosted across his face, and a slight sadness indicating that he had seen too much in his life, and he was still perfect. And then he smiled such a lopsided smile, his eyes crinkling at the edges and, gods, he could not be more perfect.

"Hello, my name is Richard Grayson, but you can call me Dick," he said, holding out a hand as if they were meeting for the first time.

Percy failed to contain a laugh at the name and how perfectly it suited him.

"I love you, Dick," she laughed again, pulling a surprised Nightwing into a kiss he would never forget.

A.N. Listen guys, I'm really sorry about the long wait. When I started writing, I promised myself I wouldn't become one of those authors and now it seems like I have. Again, I'm really sorry, but I'm not gonna make you read some sort of excuse. Just know that I'll try my best to update when I can. I will not abandon this story.

But then again, I only have ideas for one maybe two chapters left. Unless you guys want anything specific.

PS. That money thing with Deathstroke actually happened in the comics. Dick managed to stop Slade from killing him by paying him a dollar more than he was promised. Just a fun fact!
