《Crazier Then You (Twilight // Crazy Jane)》Chapter 21

Paul and Penny walked down the hall Jane had disappeared down minutes prior. "I don't understand you Paul. Why let her go if you were just gonna follow her anyway?" Penny complained as Paul looked utterly confused yet stressed out. What was I supposed to do? Pick her up and carry her out? So I'm just giving her space. Isn't that what you all want?" He rambled to Penny before she stopped dead in her tracks. "What?" He asked as she looked fearful yet glued to the spot. "This is as far as I go. I don't go looking for the darkness. That is not my job. And there's nothing but darkness ahead." She said eerily before turning around and walking away leaving a stunned Paul to begin walking once again this time completely alone.
Meanwhile Jane was walking through a door that led her into an old suburban house. It felt familiar yet Jane had never seen it herself..... it was someone else's memory. She looked at the photos hung on the wall trying to see if they were more memories but- they were pictures of a small child. Jane knew exactly where to go her feet walking her down the hall and to the last door on the left. Passing multiple doors but this one.... This one felt the most important. Opening the door it creaked loudly shining the hallway light on a little girl sat, putting together a puzzle together in the darkness of her bedroom. The puzzle making an image Jane had thought was a memory in the underground. It was a lake surrounded by green grass all over, a weird gazebo. Jane had met Penny there earlier. Asking her who's memory it even was but even she didn't know either.... No one did until now.
"This is where is began, isn't it?" Jane asked the little girl sitting on the bed hugging her arms around herself for comfort. "I don't know who you need me to be. I don't know if I'm supposed to be happy. And you....You're perfect. I know your a memory but I don't know where to turn. Or who I can trust or if I can." Jane said beginning to cry no sobs just tears rubbing down her face smudging her eyeliner a little bit. "I'm trying." Janes voice cracked as she stared at the innocent child not even looking at her. "But I don't know if I want to try anymore..." she said weakly before hearing heavy boots walking to the bedroom door. A quiet sob escaping her as she knew something bad was about to happen. A shadow of a man casting over small Kay due to the hallway light. "Sweet sweet baby Kay. There you are." He said making Jane cowering more into herself and stare at the innocent child sat on the floor.
It was her father....
"Come." He said sticking his hand out for her to grab as Kay slowly looked up from her puzzle. "I haven't finished my puzzle yet." She said confused yet completely oblivious to what was happening. "Come my sweet baby. Before mother returns." He pressed making her stand up and walk over to him taking his hand. Jane watching helplessly as she walked over to him, unaware of what he planned to do to her. "That's my good girl." He said turning to leave. She began to follow him out of the room when she looked back and..... small Kay was still sat there doing her puzzle. Kay looked up and now it was Jane holding daddy's hand being taken from the bedroom. "Bye-bye." Kay said for the first time to Jane before going back to her puzzle. Jane.... Went through it all like Kay had and fell into a stoic stage. She left his bedroom stumbling out of the house and began walking somewhere that seemed to pull her in.

Paul had just arrived at the entrance of Black Annis area he heard a scary whisper come from the dark room. "I smell a man. No man can pass" the whispers continued as Paul came closer. "Hello? What's your name? I'm here for Jane." Paul asked the creepy women wearing a terrifying black mask that looked to have a snarl on its face. Rather then answer she smacked him across the face with her bladed finger tips leaving a cut across his face that slowly healed. "Damn it." Paul cussed at the pain as he looked back to her she did it again. "No man can pass." She said again. He held his arm up to protect his face from her as she continued to claw at him.
"No! I'm here for Jane." He spat angrily but yet again to no avail. "No man can pass." She whispered eerily again making him look down at his feet body beginning to shake. "I'm not a man. Im not a man." He whispered behind to take his clothes off making the personality back away from him with a hiss. Paul kept his boxers on to not scare or make the girl uncomfortable. He shifted into a large wolf growling lowly as the personality looked at him with confusion now as a low grow came from her at him. She traced her finger tips on his fur lightly to not draw blood looking him over before finally nodding and stepping away. "You are no man.... This no man...can pass." She said creepily pointing to the door Jane had gone through.
He walked through the door and that left two doors to choose from, one titles Kay and the other said The Well. Remedying that Pennys said the sister had sent Jane to go looking for the well Paul went to that one pushing it open. Puzzle pieces littered the grass, torches were lit around the well as it seemed to be night out but- not that dark. Paul looked up to see Jane standing on the well looking down reciting the same phrase over and over again. "Jane?!" He called receiving no answer.
A distorted whisper saying, 'Sweet baby. Sweet.' began going around him making him look around confused where man was that said it. "Tell no one... No one... Nowhere to turn. No one to tell. No where to turn. No one tells." She continued to mutter while staring down into the dark abyss of the well. Paul slowly walking around it and to her, watching her closely scared she could jump any second. The thing that would haunt him for a while is the face she was making..... she looked like she was dead on the inside nothing left to cling to. "No one. No one tells. No one. No one." She began saying a bit more edgy as her foot shifted slightly forward. "Jane? Come on let's go home." Paul said grabbing her arm lightly to keep her from jumping.
A rumbling started and a gust of wind shot up from the well making Jane rock back and forth a bit. Making Paul grab her and pull her off the ledge and into his arms. As he held her a big tornado seemed to come out of the well made of puzzles. It soon shaped itself into a giant man with a bald head.
Paul stared at the man in utter confusion before glancing to see Janes reaction. He felt his throat clench up at the sight of her crying and looking terrified. "Sweet sweet baby. Come join me!" The giant yelled as Jane clung to Paul yet began to look stoic once again. "Jane Jane what the hell is that thing?" Paul asked confused at her fear not putting the dots together. "She's mine!" The giant yelled at Paul making him hold Jane tighter. "You can't fight Daddy. Nobody can. He's too strong." Jane said with evidence in her voice she had been crying still sounding groggy. "Oh shit! That's your father?" He asked as Jane looked on at the monster in fear.

"Sweet sweet baby." The monster called again to her. "Listen to me. That is not him. This is you. That's not your father." Paul instructed grabbing her arms and looking her in the eyes. "This isn't even real. It's all in your head." Paul explained before the the puzzle version of her father yelled at him. "FUCK YOU!" Paul yelled at him before putting his sole focus on Jane again. "Jane, wake up! Jane wake" Paul said before being grabbed by the giant. Realizing the replica could in fact touch them Paul began yelling for Jane to run not even worrying for himself. Janes father began to tighten his hold on Paul crushing him and making him gasp for air, before being roughly thrown down on the ground.
"Jane save yourself! Just run!" Paul yelled scrambling to his feet as the giant came stomping towards him. "No stop it. Not him." She said quietly and clearly upset as she saw one of the few good men in her life about to be crushed. "STOP IT! STOP IT!" She yelled at her father who growled before pulling away looking surprised she actually stood up to him. "YOU DESTROY EVERYTHING! I WILL NOT LET YOU DESTROY HIM! I HATE YOU! I HATE YOU, YOU FILTHY DISGUSTING MAN! I AM NOT AFRAID OF YOU! I AM NOT AFRAID OF YOU! I AM NOT AFRAID!" She screamed at the top of her lungs to the point it hurt as the giant stared at her still surprised.
It gained its composure and once again repeated it mantra, "Sweet Sweet-" he began to say before Jane cut him off. "NO!" She screamed as it echoed all around them and the puzzle version of her father disappeared and the puzzle pieces flew back down into the well. Jane stood there sobbing lightly, starting to get a control on her composure. Paul got up and walked over to her with a sad look, as it dawned on him what was this all meant.
Jane had told him she was raped by two different men..... but she never said it was her own father. Paul felt pure bile fill his throat as he wanted to go down that well and strangle the imaginary monster to death. He craved do it to the real thing to but for now he escorted Jane back to the subway. They walked side by side both looking away from any memories that appeared along the way. Once they got to the lighter memories Paul looked at her with a devastating look on his face. "I um- I - I - I don't know- I didn't know it was your dad..... and I'm sorry. For the fucked up joke I tried to make when he first met about- about you having daddy issues. I understand now.... Why you hate me. I would too." He sighed as he knew he had screwed everything up especially coming into her head and invading her privacy.
"I don't hate you. You didn't know. Nobody does besides my Doctor at the asylum.... He used the information in a crueler way." Jane explained looking at her feet as Paul tried to contain his shaking. "Jane I- I can never say how sorry I am. I don't know how you can't be mad at me? I'm mad at me. You deserve the best Jane and.....maybe that's not me- I keep messing this up, once we are back to the surface I'll understand if you don't want to talk to me anymore....I wouldn't.." He said shakily as the two stopped walking about to be on the platform for the train. "Paul I don't want you to leave, I don't. And- yes.... You said some things and even done something's that were not okay but- so have I. I don't think anyone else in this entire fucking world could even so much as tolerate me like you do. I'm sorry for snapping at you for trying to save me.... And for leaving to Italy. If it makes you feel any better I kind of regretted it...... I had to listen to those innocent- innocent people get eaten by those monsters. And- now they want Bella and I to- to become one of them." Jane sobbed quietly as the fear she felt and all the pin and sadness came to light.
"I won't say I told you so because- that would be fucked up but- you know- I kinda did. But one thing I can assure you Jane. You will not become one of those lifeless leeches, I'll make sure of that. Even if it kills me... I will fight for you to live a long happy life. Although I'd rather you live it with me...." He admitted at the end making her look at him funny. "You still like me? But- I was so mean to you. I-" she began to ramble on how terrible she was but he stopped her by grabbing her hand. "I will always like you Jane...... I love everything about you. And if you can forgive me for ignoring you for the past two months. I think I could forgive you for ditching town for three days." He chuckled trying to ease the tension but Jane stared at him mouth slightly agape.
He didn't understand and thought back on how he had worded things before stiffening up and blushing. "You love me?" Jane asked weakly as Paul sighed this hadn't been how he imagined doing this but- it was as good a time as any. "Yes. I love you Jane. And I don't expect you to say it back or even feel it yet but-" Paul began rambling before Jane stepped forward kissing him. He looked flabbergasted as Jane smiled slowly, "I love you too.... I've never felt like this about anyone...." She mumbled quietly as he smiled so big it hurt his face. He went in for a brief kiss not wanting to push her too much then grabbed her hand guiding her to the freshly fixed train. Driver 8 gave him a mocking smile from earlier which he huffed at before going to sit with Jane.
The two sat side by side Paul's knee bumping hers here and there as the two stared at them. Before they reached the surface Jane looked to Paul one last time before smiling feeling like facing her inner demons had helped her but also understanding the emotion she had been feeling for Paul. She was so heartbroken when he ignored her because- she loved him.
As Jane came to she could hear Paul waking up and groaning as well before taking the weird helmet off his head. Jane laid on an examination table sitting up and looking around confused. Her eyes landing on Carlisle Cullen who smiled at her. "Jane.... Nice to finally meet you." He introduced sticking his hand out that she slowly shook before hand king her hand away. He didn't get offended and instead looked to Sam with a nod of understanding. The alpha was quick to usher his pack brother into telling him if he was alright. Paul nodded grabbing his head that was still pounding before looking to Jane. He couldn't help but wonder if it had been a dream but- the small smile she gave him made him feel more secure that it was all real.
The trio soon left the Cullen house making Jane scoff that she had been in the literal vampire den. The two wolves were in agreement leading her quickly to the treaty line and heading back to Emily's. The sun had just begun to set meaning they had been in her subconscious for almost an entire day. Paul held her hand the entire time until they reached Emily's. As they walked inside all the wolves looked confused before Jane waved. "Uh hey-" she trailed off awkwardly as everyone stared at her. "Jane your back sweetie." Emily coed as she grabbed some muffins she had made offering them to Jane.
"Yeah.... I'm sorry if I made you guys upset." Jane tried apologizing as everyone stared at her funny. Usually Jane would tell them something like 'you guys shouldn't care,' or 'it's none of your goddamn business what I was doing.' Paul just smiled at her and led her to a chair as conversation soon began to flow around them. Jane was asked all about what or where she had been for all that time. She explained hiding in the memories as everyone in the underground felt the balance returning to their system. The secretary was the most happy about that as it was her job to maintain balance. Paul wanted brownie points with her for helping fix the isuru's in the underground. Not that she would tell him.
Speaking of Paul he watched Jane eat a muffin with a smile on his face. She loved him..... he couldn't believe it. And they were fixed once again to try and be a normal couple....
Although with them normal wasn't much of a thing. Especially with a newborn army coming to change that and bring even more chaos to their newly peaceful moment.

The Adventures of Alan

As a professor of physics, he has a decent understanding of how the world works, or so he likes to think. Armed only with his knowledge, Alan is thrown into a world very different from his own. In his new reality, he will meet both friends and foe, he will seek knowledge, he will build power, and perhaps he will even find love again? Follow Alan through his adventures, and find out for yourselves how he deals with the challenges thrown at him by a new world, while struggling with the issues brought with him from his old one. * Author’s note: A fair warning. This is the first time I’ve published anything, and basically the first time I’ve written anything more than mandatory school-stuff. The story will probably have inconsistencies, grammatical errors (not my native tongue, though that excuse is getting old), and potentially confusing (missing?) plot. I will naturally do my best to write something worth reading, but my main goal in writing this story is to have fun and explore the limits of my own creativity. My hope in publishing it here, is that I’ll reach someone who enjoy the story, and can push me forward towards writing more, as it is difficult at times to find the motivation to write just for myself. Additionally, I can’t really promise to have regular updates, as I have a full-time job that often likes to take the ‘full-time’ part literally, and a sporadic social life that occasionally surprises me (happy surprises mostly, so I shouldn’t complain). I’ll aim for once a week to start with, and take it from there. Happy reading! Cover photo by Jeff Hire (/photographer/gun4hire-58415), from https://freeimages.com/.
