《Avalei Cullen (A Twilight Saga Fanfic)》Ch 10: News

You know when I asked Bella to do things less dangerous? Well she didn't listen. She went on ahead and rode those motorcycles Jacob helped rebuild and being the prone to danger she is, she crashed and hit her head. It was a minor wound though. If I wasn't so caught up on keeping watch on all the other dangers, I would've prevented that one from happening.
A few days later, at school I heard Bella's friends talking about something in the woods they saw. I was sitting at our usual table when I saw Bella almost sit down next to me but overheard what Mike and the others were talking about.
"It was jet black and huge, on all fours it was still taller than a person. A bear maybe-" Angela wondered, Mike joked in, "Or an Alien, you're lucky you didn't get probed." That made the others laugh besides Angela. Besides that bad alien joke, did Angela just describe Sam? He couldn't have been seen. And even if it was, they weren't killing people. They're job is to protect humans...unlike some others...Laurent and Victoria...
I snapped out of my little trance and saw Bella come over, but before I could stop Bella, she went over to their table and joined in on the conversation.
"You know you're not the only one." They all gave her a blank look. She's finally talking to someone other than me. "Um my dad's been getting reports down at the station." She finally sat down, "Like 5 hikers have been killed by some bear. But they can't find the bear." Yeah because it isn't a bear.
Angela cleared her throat, looking at Eric, he laughed nervously and spoke, "Last time you clowns doubt my girlfriend."
While the others continued with their small talk, Mike subtly scooted a bit to Bella, "So um I'm a bit surprised you came over to us, knowing at least one Cullen is still here, I thought you'd sit with her like usual"
Bella looked at me then back at Mike, I gave her a slight nod, "She's cool about it." Sort of.
"So um...I mean now that you're eh talking and eating again, which you know gotta get that protein in there," He playfully poked her stomach. "I was just wondering if you know-you'd like to see a movie with me?" Mike finished. Oh he's so weird.
Bella thought about it for a second, "Uh yeah sure."
"Cool um let me see...We could-we could check out um- Love spelled backwards is love. Yeah its a dumb title but um its a romance comedy. I mean its supposed to be-" Mike stammered but Bella quickly interrupted, "No, no romance. Uh how about Face Punch? You heard of that?"
"I mean its- its an action movie." Mike said unsure.
"Yeah its perfect. With guns, adrenaline, its my thing." Bella said trying to be a little too cool about it. I smiled amused.
"Okay so..." Mike started but Bella interrupted, "We should get a bunch of people to go. Do you guys wanna go see Face Punch?" Bella asked turning to the others, getting their attention. Ooooh Mike did not want that.

"Yeah hey, Mike we were supposed to watch that remember the trailers all like pshhhh pshhh Punch Faces" Eric exclaimed doing hand punches and noises.
"Yeah, movie night with Bellaaaaa" Jessica sang.
"Hey, do you mind if I invite Avalei?" Bella asked them. I then looked away from them and down at my food to make it seem like I wasn't listening in.
I felt them turn their heads to look back at me, "Uh sure." They said. From that, they wouldn't be comfortable and I probably wouldn't either. Besides, I heard that movie sucks.
After school I hung out at Bella's place, finishing up some homework with her. It started to get dark and Bella was getting ready to meet the others at the theaters. She still kept asking me if I wanted to go.
"Come on, you sure don't want to watch Face Punch?" She asked, I chuckled and nodded, gathering my things into my backpack.
"I'm sure. I have to go out to hunt anyway. Who's going again?" I asked knowing there was a stomach flu going around. Maybe Mike's lucky enough that the others catch it so that'll leave just him and Bella.
"Well Jessica bailed and Angela got the stomach flu so Eric's taking care of her. It'll be just me, Mike and Jacob." She answered. I was right, though one of those names caught me by surprise.
"Mike and Jacob? I know Mike's been trying to ask you out since you came back here, but you invited Jacob too? Don't you think it'll be kind of-I don't know. Doesn't he like you?" I questioned her.
"Yeah I mean I like him too but-" Bella started but I helped her finish, "You like him more as a friend than something else." She nodded, "Does he know that? Because Bella, I've read his mind before, he doesn't just have a crush on you. He really likes you. And I know I don't have much experience in this department, but I know when things can turn out badly. Don't do anything too drastic to lead him on if you don't feel the same way he does." I told her honestly.
She nodded and grabbed her jacket before we both headed out the door. I went to my car which is a blue mustang convertible. I forgot to add that I could drive and Emmett had bought me a car about a year ago. I mean I can't go around town without one, that'll make people suspicious. And besides, I don't usually go out and I normally ride to and from school with Bella and I'm out in the woods or the rez a lot. Yeah...I'm still not really social.
Bella went to her truck, we waved goodbye as we passed each other down the road, going the opposite directions. When I got to my house, I parked my car in the garage and went to change into something a lot comfortable. Once I was done, I grabbed my backpack filled with my usual notebook, pens, phone and an extra top and took off into the woods.

This time, I didn't lie about what I was doing tonight. Its been awhile since I've hunted so I needed to do that. After I got a drink of mountain lion blood, I changed into my extra top and placed my jacket around me again. I looked at the time, 9:13. Its getting a little late.
Though, as I ran through the woods, I caught eyes of the moonlight that hit the river perfectly showing it's reflection on the water. Little waves rippling down the river. I stopped at the edge to sit down and leaned against a tree.
I got out my notebook and pens. I flipped to a new page and began to draw. I love nature and its beautiful things. I tend to draw what I thought inspired me or was a challenge. Besides music, drawing helped me think and calm down, along with drawing my own little memories and making them come to life on paper. I've been through a lot of notebooks since Alice and Edward would always know what to get me for Christmas. This one mainly consisted drawings of Bella, especially when she was depressed, drawings of the pack: wolf forms and human forms, and drawings of nature I come across when I'm out. Like tonight.
After about 30 minutes, I was close to finish. When I get home I'd add a little color to it to enhance it a little more. I was adding a few more details when I heard some ruffling from across the river. I immediately got up, on high alert.
But before anything happened, I heard a voice in my head, Calm down Avalei, its just me. I saw a pair of eyes which revealed a grey wolf with black spots, Embry. I sighed in relief.
"Embry? What are you doing here?" I crouched down to gather my stuff and placed them back in my bag.
Embry came closer. Though not crossing the river that divided the treaty line, though it doesn't really matter anymore since I'm the only one here and a hybrid. Its Jacob. Something ticked him off tonight and he phased. I looked into his mind and saw it happen. Him, Sam and the others were already waiting for him in the woods in Port Angeles. He turned into a russet colored wolf. And a giant one at that, as big as Sam.
I remember Sam telling me Jacob is the next in line for alpha, Sam was just taking over until he finally phased.
"So I guess he's alpha now?" I asked.
Embry nodded his head, Sam tried to explain everything but Jacob turned the alpha card down. So Sam's really our alpha.
"What? Why'd he do that? Doesn't Jacob want to be the leader?"
He said he didn't want this. Actually nobody did. We don't have a choice. But I guess since Sam already knew the rules and qualified as an alpha already, it was made official.
It took me a few seconds to realize everything, "Wait, Bella-" She's fine. She went home after dropping off that Mike dude. He answered knowing my question, I sighed in relief. Why does everything happen when I'm not around?
"Is Jacob okay? I mean, with all of this?" I asked concerned for someone I didn't quite know yet.
I mean he's a bit freaked out that what we all thought was fiction is now real, but time will tell. We all got used to it eventually, so will he. Embry finished.
I nodded and shrugged, pulling my bag around my arms and jumped the river, landing next to Embry, "Okay well, I'd like to-"
You can't meet him yet.
I looked at him confused, "What? Why?"
We told him about you. I mean it was hard not to with the whole wolf telepathy thing but he just phased and we don't want you near a new wolf. Not yet in that case. Embry explained.
"I won't get hurt if that's what you're implying. And even if he tried to, I'll just push him away with my telekinesis-"
Sam still won't allow you to see him. You know how Jacob felt about your family, actually more towards your brother. Now that he knows everything, we're afraid he won't hesitate to hurt you. Its for your safety Avalei...and Bella's.
"Bella...He won't tell her will he? She's just getting used to having one supernatural being around, after the others who left...I don't think she can handle more."
You know we aren't allowed to tell anyone about our secret, unless they're imprints or part of the tribe. And unless they find out on their own. Most of us have lost contact with our other friends, due to keeping the secret. How do you think I felt when I couldn't talk to Jake and Quil. Jacob's going to have to lay low for awhile-
"Oh no Bella." I mumbled interrupting him.
He tilted his wolfy head, "Sorry, its just that if Jacob has to stay away from Bella, that'll just leave her back to where we started. The nightmares, the worry, and the pain."
Then you can use Sam's order to stay away from Jacob for awhile to help Bella. Embry suggested.
I looked at him then petted his head, "Yeah you're right. I guess I'll see you soon." I then hugged him, "Don't forget to call me when Sam is okay with me meeting Jacob."
Embry nodded his head, Don't worry, I will. And I think Jake will work up to liking you once he does meet you. I mean you're pretty hard not to like once we got the hang of you being a hybrid. I smiled at his comment and jumped over the river and headed towards Bella's house.
