《Avalei Cullen (A Twilight Saga Fanfic)》Ch 9: Cliff Diving

Charlie came in and woke Bella up once Charlie sat by her, "I'm sorry I woke you up." Bella mumbled into her pillow.
Charlie cooed her, "You're alright Bells, you're okay. Kind of like when you were a baby, didn't get much sleep then either." Bella sat up a bit, wiping the tears off her face, she spotted me and I put a finger to my lips, telling her not to say anything. "I thought this thing was starting to work but...guess not." Charlie said, touching Bella's dream catcher above her bed. I found out Jacob gave that to her for her birthday, I thought it was funny how him and I had the same taste. Such a coincidence.
"I did know what its like, you know. When your mother left, took you with her. That was not a good time for me. I thought about doing all kind of crazy things, just to ease the pain." Charlie admitted, patting down Bella's hair. Oh you don't know the half of it Charlie.
Bella looked at me, then Charlie spoke, "Can I ask you something?" Bella nodded, "Hanging out with Jacob seems to take your mind off things." Bella nodded again. "That's good, he's a good kid."
"Yeah he is." Bella said quickly.
"You know sometimes, you gotta learn to love what's good for you, know what I mean?" Charlie asked, making Bella sort of glare at him. "Of course what do I know, I'm just a terminal bachelor. Famous ladies man." I giggled quietly at that.
Bella scoffed at his remark and laid back down. "Okay, uh-well go to bed." Charlie said quietly, getting ready to leave.
"Sorry I woke you up." Bella repeated. "Don't worry about it. I love you." He then left her room, closing her door.
"You're safe to come in now." Bella said quietly. I lifted myself up to her window frame and went through. Once I was in, I walked towards the end of her bed.
"He is right you know. I can tell every time after you hang out with Jacob. You're better." I concluded.
She sat up once again and leaned onto her dashboard. "If you're starting to have your nightmares again, I can always-"
"No don't. I'm okay, really." She defended.
I sighed, "But Charlie isn't" she looked away. I went to sit at her side, joining her as I leaned on her dashboard as well.
I gently took her dream catcher that hung at the middle and examined it, then putting it back. "Bella, I know its been hard for you to...cope with all of this and I haven't been much help or around much lately but you do know I'm always going to be here for you whenever you need someone, right?" I then placed my hand on hers.

She nodded, "I know, and I really appreciate that."
It was silent for a few moments until I broke it, taking my hand back, "Oh and what's with you and your sudden interest in motorcycling?" I joked at the ending, chuckling a bit, "Because I saw you get on that random biker's bike and take a joy ride with him the night you and Jessica were supposed to be out "Shopping". I used air quotes around that.
Bella too chuckled a bit, "Its nothing really. I guess I just wanted to try something new."
"Well could you try something a little less dangerous?" She laughed at my comment.
Silence again. Though this time, Bella spoke, "Avalei, why did you stay here? Why didn't you go with them?" That got very serious very suddenly.
I thought back at the note. Should I tell her the truth? That I was basically left behind to look after her? Or should I take the selfish way and say they didn't want me anymore?
"To tell you the truth, I didn't have much of a choice of deciding whether to go or not. My family decided for me. Actually, they decided not to tell me until after they left." I admitted.
"They really left you like that? Really? No note? Nothing?" She questioned. Okay this I have to lie about, if I said they left a note, she'll want to read it and I couldn't let her do that.
I just nodded my head, "I came home from hunting that day, the house empty of anyone and I found a small note. All it said was "We're sorry, we love you. Be safe and look after Bella. "
"What did they mean by look after me?" Bella questioned.
"The same reason I said that I'll always be here for you...to protect you. And make sure don't do crazy things like ride motorcycles." I teased at the end. She smiled a bit. Though it faded once she figured out what I said.
"Protect me? As in-" She started but I interrupted her, "Yeah, they're still out there. Though I've been keeping my guard up in case they come anywhere near you. My family might be gone but Bella, I'm here. You're basically my sister, I won't let anyone hurt you." She then hugged me and I told her to go back to sleep. She laid back down and cuddled her pillow.
I was about to leave when she grabbed my hand, "Wait, could you stay for awhile?" She pleaded. I lightly smiled at her and sat back down. After a few minutes, she fell asleep. I know she hates if I tamper with her dreams but she needs a quiet night of sleep. So does Charlie. I let her mind wander to dream of stars and happiness.

I left Bella's earlier this morning because Charlie would come in to check on her. I was now chilling with the pack back on the rez.
Emily made us breakfast when Paul came in and nudged our heads, including mine, "Hey runts, how about a little bit of cliff diving today?" I swear, he is exactly like Emmett.
I pushed him away and fixed my hair before commenting, "Didn't you guys go cliff diving like not too long ago? And isn't it really supposed to rain today?"
"Yeah but we're 108 degrees so we don't get cold. Plus that was for Embry's initiation. This time is for fun." Jared exclaimed as they finished their food and got up to head towards the door. Though they stopped and looked at me, "Well? Aren't you coming?"
I thought about it for a second then shrugged my shoulders, "Why not. It'll be fun pushing you off the cliff" I teased while walking pass Paul. They cheered and we ran towards the woods and to the cliff.
Once we got there, I looked at how high we were, "You jumping?" Embry asked sneaking behind me.
He didn't phase me with that, I scoffed, "I may be a hybrid and can control the elements but I have a normal temperature. I still get cold. I'll just watch from over here." I then sat down beside a tree to lean on it, covering myself up with an extra towel they made me hold.
"Suit yourself." Embry then jumped and did a flip and landed in the water. The others soon went after.
After a few minutes, they were back up here, ready to jump again. But before they could, Paul and Embry thought it'd be funny to push Jared off the cliff, hence Jared fighting them off.
I laughed at their foolishness and in the distance, on the road, I recognized a faded orange truck driving by. It had 2 passengers and a tarp that covered the truck bed. I sat up a bit and focused on their conversation.
"If you told me that you couldn't fix these bikes I would say that that's really too bad but then we'd just have to find something else to do." Bella said to Jacob, he just laughed.
I saw Bella then point over to where we were, I hid more into the trees so she wouldn't see me,"Is that Sam Uley?" The others were still trying to get Jared off the cliff.
"Yeah, him and his cult." Jacob explained. Then finally they pushed him off. I peeked through the leaves to see that Bella pulled over to the side and got out of the truck.
"Oh my god did you see that?" She ran across the road to the railing to get a better look.
Jacob too got out, laughing, Bella looked back at him confused, "They're not really fighting Bella. They're cliff diving. Scary as hell but a total rush." Paul then jumped after.
Bella looked back at the cliff, "Rush?" Oh no Bella, you are not thinking what I hope you're not thinking.
"Most of us jump from lower down. We leave the showing off to Sam and his disciples." Jacob explained. Bella then walked back to him and the truck.
"You got some kind of beef with them or something?" She asked as they both leaned against her truck, staring at Sam and the others.
"No, they just think they run this place." Jacob scoffed, "Embry used to call them Hall monitors on steroids. But now look at him."
"That's Embry?" Bella asked, with that, Embry flipped off the cliff.
Sam turned towards me to check on me, I'm okay. I thought to him.
"What happened to him?" Bella asked as I paid attention to them again.
"He missed some school now all of a sudden he started following Sam around like a little puppy. Same thing happened to Paul and Jared. Sam keeps giving me this look, like he's waiting for me or something. Its kinda starting to freak me out." Jacob admitted. Oh Jacob, if you only knew. Hmmm maybe he's not so bad at all. Though he might not understand it all yet.
"Well you should just avoid him." Bella suggested.
Jacob looked at her with longing eyes, "I try." That's when Sam ran up to the edge and did a nice dive into the water.
