《Steam of Britain》Chapter 2: The Rocket

It was a special day for King's Cross, the engines were getting ready for a special visitor coming to King's Cross. "I heard she was the fastest engine in the day!!" said Mallard. "A prime express engine of his time!" said Duchess. "I hope she's nice," said Max. "I'm sure she is," said Bertram, "She is the first successful steam engine on the rails."
The engines were excited to see the engine. Soon, a whistle was heard, and puffing was heard. The engine came in with grace, and a mixture of open and roofed coaches.
She had two large driving wheels, an open platform for the driver and fireman, was painted yellow, and had the name plate, Rocket on her sides. "Wow," said Perry, "She looks amazing." "She's even older than me!!" said Trooper.
Soon, the engine sat in a shed, and was resting after the day, when Mallard, Arron and Max came up next to her. "Hello," said Mallard, "May we speak with you?" The engine perked up, and said, "Yes, you were all at the station earlier." "Yes, my name is Mallard, and the black engine is Arron and the Tank Engine is Max." "Hello," said the engines. "Hello, my name is Alice." "Nice to meet you Alice. It's nice to meet you." The engines then talked endlessly of express, and many other days of steam. When Max and the others left, Alice was left to herself. She slept very well, until she was rudely awaken by a horn. She looked to see a large diesel glaring at her.
"What are you doing?!?" he boomed. "I'm resting," said Alice. "In MY SHED!!!" boomed the diesel, "NOW GET OUT, BEFORE I MAKE YOU SCRAP!!!" "Excuse me!" said Alice, "I am preserved!!! I can't be scrapped!!" "WHATEVER!!!" said the diesel, "NOW GET OUT!! OR I'LL MAKE YOU INTO FIRE WOOD!!!!!" Alice was now scared, and then puffed out of the shed. The diesel then rattled proudly into the shed and fell asleep.

Alice was in the cold sighting next to the roundhouse. She hardly got any sleep. The next morning, the shed master came to give the engines their jobs, when he saw Alice in the sighting. "Alice," said the shed master, "What are you doing here?" "I was sleeping in another engine's shed," said Alice. "Who's?" "I think he was called, a 'warship' diesel engine." "Oh, you mean Mack. Don't listen to him, he's just a bully. And that shed isn't his. He's not even a part of this fleet." "He's not?" "No, he's just an engine who comes to help every now and then, but he's never going to be a permanent part of the fleet." Alice smiled, and the shed master said, "You sleep for a bit in the round house after the engines all have their jobs." "Thank you sir," said Alice.
Mack was sleeping well in his shed, until the shed master came and yelled, "MACK!!!!" Mack jumped, and looked to see the shed master, and he didn't look happy. "Oh, sh-sh-sh-shed master, g-g-g-g-g-good morning." "Need I remind you that this shed is for GUESTS, and not just for you!!! You maybe one as well, but that doesn't give you an excuse to just boot other engines out of this shed! May I remind you that YOU were turned into a generator for a bit? Do you want that to happen again?" "N-N-N-N-No sir." "And I guess that you also made threats as well?" Mack knew there was no way to lie out of this one. "Y-Y-Y-Y-Y-Y-Y-Y-Y-Yes sir, I did." "You know this Mack, your controller and I do NOT approve of bullying and threatening other engines!! Now, leave my station, NOW!!" "Yes sir," said Mack, and he rattled away in shame.

At the station, Max took the rail tour away. Alice meanwhile, took over his shunting duties. She was very well, she even had a great goodbye from all the other engines. "Sorry about Mack," said Flying Scotsman. "It's okay," said Alice, "I don't know how many times I've been told I belong in a museum." "It's okay," said City of Truro, "We all have been told that at some point. But we were all chosen to be preserved. Not many have that honor." The engines agreed, and then Alice puffed back home.
