I opened my door and walked in. I ran to my bed and fell onto it. Jack did the same, landing beside me. I placed his away jersey that had previously been in my hand onto the bedside table. When I turned back around Jack's face was really close to mine. His eyes looked even better up close.
"Hi," he chuckled.
"Hey," my breathing was weird so my 'hey' came out breathy.
"You okay?" he looked a little worried.
"Yeah. We're just, you know, close," I gave him a shy smile.
He raised his eyebrow a bit. "We've been this close before we started fake dating. What's the difference?"
"I don't know," I wrapped my arms around him and nuzzled his chest. "Guess I was just being weird."
He gave a small adorable laugh. "You're always weird."
"Awe that's not nice," my voice was muffled. He started playing with my hair, sending a sensation of shivers down my spine.
"It's true," he replied, twirling a strand of my hair around his finger.
"If I'm weird, you're weird for hanging out with me," I pulled away from his chest and stuck my tongue out at him.
"I guess that's true too," he stuck his tongue out at me too. I giggled and sat up. "Awe, where are you going?"
"I'm not leaving, but get up and sit against my pillows. It's comfier like that," I pointed to where I wanted him to sit.
"What if I find it comfier right here?"
"Is that a challenge, Grazer?"
"Maybe it is," he gave me a sly smile.
"I'm weak, how am I supposed to move you?" I started trying to roll him towards my pillows.
"Like that," he grumbled as I finished pushing.
I did a small victory dance. "Now sit up."
He obeyed me and sat up against my pillow. His lips formed in a pout that he lost. "Y'know you aren't that heavy at all. My weakness doesn't mean anything when it comes to your lightness," he rolled his eyes at my comment.
"Just come cuddle me," he opened his arms as if for a hug.
"Whatever," I rolled my eyes playfully and laid down on my side with my arms wrapped around him. He slipped his arms around me in return.
"Y/n, can you promise me something?" I looked up at Jack, his question consuming my attention.
"Depends what it is," I raised an eyebrow.
"Promise me that you'll still be my best friend when we break this fake dating thing off, please?" his puppy dog eyes looked deep into my soul, making it impossible to resist.
"I promise," I spoke softly and grabbed his hand.
"Thank you. You make me happy," he smiled down at me. It was a soft smile, so gentle on his freckled face.
"You make me happy too," I smiled back at the boy who secretly made my heart melt. His smile only grew wider.
I felt his phone vibrate from the side I was on. Since I was curled against him it vibrated my leg. I pulled his phone out of his pocket for him. I handed it to him and grabbed my own phone from my bedside table.
I snooped at his phone from my own in my hand and saw that it was a text from Ellie. I saw him click on the notification and go to it. I read over the text.
I watched as he spelled his text out to her with the one hand that wasn't wrapped around me.

He got out of the text and closed his phone. I quickly averted my attention onto my phone. Surprisingly I had a text from Ally. I opened her text.
I closed my phone and let it fall where my hand fell. I looked up at Jack with a small smile. He softly smiled back.
"Can I play with your curls?" I asked him, laying my head on his chest.
"Mhm," he softly started rubbing my hair like he had been doing before.
I gently ran my hand through his hair, twirling some of his curls around my finger. I listened to his heartbeat with closed eyes as his fingers playing with my hair soothed me a bit.
"When are you and your Mom coming over for dinner again?"
"Probably Saturday."
"Mkay," I nodded my head slightly. "Do you know how comfy you are?"
"I wouldn't have a clue," he laughed softly.
"You're so comfy. If I was actually your girlfriend I would cuddle with you so much. You would probably be a good pillow at night honesty," I smiled softly.
"If you want I can ask to stay over so you can try that out," I could hear the smirk in his voice.
"Sure," I shrugged my shoulders. I felt his arm shift to grab his phone. I could hear his fingers tapping the screen as he typed.
When he put his phone down I felt him shift to get up. I whimpered when his warmth went away. I opened one eye to see what he was doing. He walked to my door and opened it and stuck his head out.
"May I stay over for the night?" Jack raised his voice so my Mom could hear him from where ever she was downstairs.
"If your Mom is fine with it!"
"Thank you M/n!" him and my Mom were on first name basis by now. It was a little weird like they were friends but I didn't mind too much.
I flipped onto my back, holding my arms and legs out so I took up the whole bed. I kept both my eyes open so I could see him. He moved around to the end of the bed.
"Do I not get a spot anymore?"
"Nope," I gave him a smirk from my spot.
"I'll just have to steal it back then, huh?"
"And how do you play to do this?" I held my head to the side slightly.
Before he answered my question he pounced onto me from his spot. My eyes widened as he had pinned my arms above my head. His lips had a smirk played along them.
"O-okay you got your spot back," my face grew red. I held it to the side so he couldn't see my blush. My heart beat raced as he hadn't gotten off yet.
"Awe did I make you blush?" his smirk was easy to point through his voice.
"No," I turned my face straight to look at his. I looked directly in his eyes, trying not to get lost. "This calls for a tease war."
"Oh, does it now?" he raised one eyebrow. He had moved his hands to capture both of my own with only one of his.
"It does. I'm going to tease you whenever I can."
"How will I resist kissing you if you tease me?"
"Maybe that's part of the tease. I won't let you kiss me," I smirked at him.
"What if I stole one right now?"

"What's the fun in that?"
"I get to kiss you," his eyes locked with mine. They slowly fell to my lips.
"But you like Ellie. If you want the kiss to be deep and unexpected, better jealousy equipment, than I'd advise you to wait," I was really just too scared of the kiss going further. We were alone and he was Jack. He would take it that far.
"Ah," he fell down beside me. I took the opportunity to trade places with him.
I quickly pinned him to my bed. Perfect opportunity to tease. I smirked down at him.
"Did you just say that other thing so you could start the kiss?"
"Nah. I just wanted to have my turn at teasing," I lowered myself onto him.
"Teasing isn't good for me," he shook his head a little.
"It isn't any better for me," I slowly moved my hands up his chest and to his arms.
"What you're doing to me now might not end well for you."
"And how's that?" I continued up his arms.
"You know damn well how."
"Then why not get me off?" I grabbed a hold of his hands and laid down across him.
"I never said I didn't like it."
"Well I'm done now. A shame for you, huh?"
"Very much so."
I could hear my Mom's soft footsteps coming up the stairs. I quickly let go of Jack's hands and rolled off of him, accidentally rolling off the bed. She didn't need to know about Jack and I.
"You okay?" Jack looked over the side of my bed. His curls slightly fell into his eyes.
"Yeah," I listened for my Mom. I heard a soft knock on the door. "Come in."
"Dinner's ready," she called from the door. "How did you get on the floor Y/n?"
"I like the floor. It's comfortable," I peeked over the side of the bed.
"Why did I raise a weird child?" she backed out of the door and went back downstairs.
Jack and I locked eyes before we both burst into laughter. I hopped off of the ground and walked to thr door. I waved him over to the door.
He walked over to me and snatched the door open before I could. "Eager for food or a gentlemen, the world may never know," I gave him a smile before walking out of the door.
He chuckled and followed suite. We walked down the stairs, got our plates, and sat down. We ate in silence for the most part, except for my Mom trying to make small talk.
After we finished eating we put our plates in the sink and went back upstairs to my room. When we got to my room Jack plopped onto my bed. I went to my dresser and got some pajama pants and a tank top out. I got my underwear and bra out too but I quickly hid them between the other clothes.
"I'm going to go take a shower," I looked at him from beside the bathroom door.
"Can I join?" he smirked at me.
"No, but you can go get your clothes from your house and take one there or after me," I gave him an innocent smile and left to take a shower.
I laid my clothes and towel where I could and threw my rag into the shower. I turned the water on and unclothed. I climbed into the shower, instantly feeling the warm water run along my skin.
I quickly cleaned everything I needed to. It took me about fifteen minutes to finish my shower. At one point while I was cleaning my hair I heard Jack leave my bedroom.
I turned the water off and hopped out of the tub, onto the rug in front of it. I wrapped my towel around my body and brushed my teeth.
I dried my hair and body with the towel before placing it to the side. I slid into my pajamas after putting my under clothing on. I gathered my dirty clothes, towel, and rag. I walked into my room and threw them into my laundry basket.
I stood in front of my mirror as I brushed my hair. It was annoyingly still wet even after I dried it but I didn't care. I caught a glance of Jack's hoodie from the corner of my eye. It was the one he gave me after his practice.
I set my brush down and went over to the hoodie. I decided to hang it up in my closet so that Jack wouldn't take it back. I wanted to keep it for a while. It was a really comfortable hoodie.
I got on my phone as I waited for Jack to return. It was ten minutes before the door to my room opened. Jack came into the room with damp hair and pajama pants on. He had a hoodie on but I knew he didn't sleep in hoodies. The only reason I knew that was because of the time I spent the night with him when my Mom had some kind of business.
"Hey," I gave him a wave. I rolled to my side of the bed and plugged my phone in.
"Hi," he sat down beside me. He pulled his hoodie off over his head and threw it to the side. He was left shirtless, turning to me.
"You just throw it onto my floor? I have to clean that y'know," I turned on my side to face him.
"I'm not dirty," he stuck his bottom lip out in a pout.
"I know that but I don't like random things out of place," I playfully glared at him.
"It'll be okay. I'll grab it in the morning," he grabbed me into his arms. I slid closer to him and latched onto his side.
"I was correct about the pillow thing. I'm going to sleep good tonight," I smiled into his skin.
"Hope you do," I could tell he was smiling. I knew these moments wouldn't last. Ellie would have him sooner or later and I couldn't sleep cuddled into his chest.
At the thoughts running in my mind my smile dropped. I hugged Jack's frame tighter. I didn't want to lose this. I didn't want to lose him. Especially to her.
"You okay?" his hand rested on my shoulder.
"N- yeah. Perfectly fine," I looked up at him with a fake smile. He gave me a real one back, his eyes relaxing.
"We should sleep," he looked to the side slightly. I got up from my spot beside him to turn the lights off. After I had brought darkness over the room I made my way back over to my bed. I laid down beside him again.
"Probably," I worked my legs under the duvet. Jack's arms wrapped firmer around my frame. I situated myself, my head laying against his chest. My hands came together a ways away from my face.
"Good night," Jack whispered the words gently, brushing my hair away from my face.
"Good night Jack," my eyes stayed open until his breathing had quieted in slumber. I wanted the night to last longer. I didn't want to fall asleep for the fear of losing him the next day was greater than my tiring mind.
I listened to his heartbeat. It was the only way I knew it was real. For a moment of this fake dating it felt real. But as all things in life, the night had to end. My eyes tired of being open and my eyelids grew heavy. I slipped in and out of sleep, desperately fighting to not slip into slumber. Until the last thing my eyes saw were the clock on my bedside table's numbers change to 12:37 in the morning and the last thing I heard was the beating of Jack's heart.

Harem (not sorry!) Magic System Short Chapters Dancing Bears (at least so far) Seriously, this is a second-world low fantasy/science-fantasy featuring a strong, but flawed male protagonist, a cheeky teenage boy that’s driving him crazy, a wee bit o’ Scots flavor, and a whole lot of culture clashing. I’m preparing to relaunch this story on Kindle once the second and third books are ready and I’d love some feedback as I move through those revisions. I'm serious about the feedback. All comments are welcome. I'll name a characters after you. And kill them, if you want. :) Oh, did I mention soulless assassins and cannibals? Yeah, Aralt’s day is not getting any better. cover image by brosedesignz
