《ɪɴꜰᴇʀɴᴏ • ᴋᴏᴋɪᴄʜɪ x ʀᴇᴀᴅᴇʀ》Chapter 11

Some time has passed since I was in the dining hall with the others. Once I left there, I looked for Tenko and we talked some more. I didn't even bother to look for Kokichi, and plus I just wanted to hang out with Tenko this time. As we were talking, weird music started coming from a close by monitor.
"Huh? What's that?" Tenko asked, her attention shifting to the monitor
"Maybe it's a warning that we need to start killing, the time limit is almost up..."
"Th-They need to stop screwing with us!"
"Wait, Tenko..." I quickly push her behind a wall. I heard people coming. We were out in the open hallways, but I was still going to be cautious. She picked up on why I hid both of us behind the wall. I'm guessing she heard the talking too.
"Don't worry, Y/n! I'll protect you with my Neo-Aikido!" She reassured. I gave her a smile and then we both peaked behind the wall to see who it was.
It was Angie, Himiko, Maki, Gonta, Kaito and Rantaro. They all seemed to be going downstairs. And I notice Tenko going to follow them
"Hey, Tenko? Are you going to join them..?" I ask
"Yeah! You can come too of course, but it's fine if you don't want to." She replied
"Ah, okay. No thanks," then she walked off, leaving me alone once again. I wonder what a big group like that is planning to do..?
Being alone was starting to give me a bit of anxiety. With the whole killing game and the creepy old aura that this school gives off, made me panic. I was considering going to follow Tenko and the others just for the sake of me not being alone but then the monitor went off. It was Monokuma, announcing that we only have 1 hour left until we all die. I leaned against the wall, looking down to the floor. I don't want to die. I started to overthink, and panic. I could feel my hands shaking and tears brimming my eyes. But I held myself together. Or at least, I tried to.
Instead of standing around alone. I decided to go downstairs where all the others were. Just as I was walking down the stairs, I heard a scream...coming from the library? It sounded like Tenko's voice.
I rushed to the library, hoping to arrive and see that everyone was safe. I was still shaking but I tried to hide it. Me and four other people bursted into the library at the same time. And when I walked into the library, I saw something that I hoped would never happen.

It was Rantaro's dead body. Laying there on the floor, with blood gushing out of his head. I was so shocked it's almost like I had no reaction.
"He's...dead." Maki said
"Whaaaaat? He's dead? Well, that's unfortunate." Angie seemed fine. Not effected by the sight in front of her at all.
"How can you be so calm!?" Gonta yelled, he was freaking out. I notice Shuichi going to check for any signs of breathing from Rantaro.
"...We're too late." He shook his head
"Wasn't that obvious..." I say quietly. I didn't want to seem rude, but just by looking at the scene, Rantaro was clearly dead.
Everyone started to panic, staring at the lifeless body in front of them. I felt a bit...sad. I didn't know Rantaro that well, but it's a shame he was the first one to die.
"This means the killing game has started, huh?" Maki stated, with a serious expression.
"K-Killing game!? Then someone killed Rantaro and-" Tenko was freaking out, we all were a bit. But before she could say anymore Kaede interrupted her.
"Wait, maybe not."
"Hm? What do you mean" I ask the blonde
"Maybe this killing game hasn't started...maybe...this just ended it." She explained
"...Ended it?" Maki questioned
"...The mastermind. Rantaro was the mastermind."
"...I don't know how he died, but if rantaro was in the library before the time limit ended... There's a high chance that the mastermind planned this. And if he's dead..." Shuichi spoke up to explain. But before he could finish, the monitor went on. It was Monokuma.
"A body has been discovered! Everyone, please gather in the library!" Monokuma spoke through the screen. As soon as the announcement was finished, Monokuma appeared in the room. "What a relief. A murder took place just before time ran out! I gotta admit, I was a little nervous there cuz the killing game hadn't started yet."
"H-How? The mastermind controlling you is..." Kaede said, shocked by the bears presence.
"Hm? By mastermind, do you mean the real mastermind who's controlling me? And you think it was Rantaro? What an imagination! Of course that's wrong! If the mastermind had died, this killing game would be over." There was a pause of silence before Monokuma spoke again. "The victim was Rantaro Amami, the . Nothing more, nothing less."

"Wh-What are you talking about?" Kaede asked
"He...Monokuma is wrong, isn't he..? Isn't Rantaro the mastermind?" Shuichi spoke nervously. You could hear the small cracks in his voice.
"Well apparently not... Monokuma just said he wasn't. Just because Rantaro was in the library doesn't mean he's the mastermind. He couldn't been looking for a book or something... and besides, if he was, this killing game would've been over." As soon as I finished speaking, the library door swung open. I looked to see the others joining us. Just as we were, the others took time to process the sight in front of them.
"I see... So this ended up happening after all. Kehehe...my, my. What a world this is, so full of jokes like this." Korekiyo spoke
"Wh-What...? This is a lie, right? My dearest Rantaro is dea— oh I mean.. was kiiiiiiilled!!!" Kokichi exaggerated his words
"Hmph...How ironic. The guy who wanted to live ended up dead...and the guy who wanted to die survived." Ryoma said
"So...can somebody explain the meaning of all this?" Kirumi asked
"Nah. An explanation isn't necessary. Thanks to the First Blood Perk, there won't be a class trial, so that'd just be a waste of time. With that said...if you're the blackened who killed Rantaro, raise your hand!" Monokuma yelled, however nobody raised their hand.
"I knew it! A degenerate male killed Rantaro, didn't he!?" Tenko shouted
"How you know boy do it?!" Gonta asked
"I just know, okay!? Violent crimes are almost always committed by violent, disgusting men!" Tenko continued to shout as she did some of her neo-aikido poses.
"Tch... That dumbass! How dare he go and get himself killed! Who the hell did it!? I'll friggin' punch you into orbit!" Kaito was pissed.
"Puhuhu... Don't get so angry. Send off your graduating classmate with warm farewells." After a small silence, Monokuma asked the blackened to raise their hand once again. But nobody's hand went up. Again...
"Hey, didja hear me? All the blackened has to do to graduate is speak up, y'know?" The bear yelled but the room remained silent. "Puhuhu... I see how it is. The blackened has no need for the first blood perk. They would rather do a class trial!"
"Excuse me?" Said Kirumi
"Very well, then. I will give the blackened what they want and hold a class trial!" Monokuma laughed.
"Ugh, this is much worse. The culprit should've just stepped forward.." I say
Monokuma then proceeded to explain how we need to investigate, and after we do that the class trial will be held.
"Let's get going then!" Kokichi seemed excited to start investigating
"Wait... where do we start?" I say, fidgeting with my hands a bit.
"We're looking for the truth of Rantaro's death, right? If we can't figure out who the culprit is, then we'll be annihilated for sure." Ryoma explained
"I-I don't wanna be annihilated! The girls should be allowed to live, at least!" Tenko replied
"Do not fret. Just imagine this as something out of a police drama or detective manga." Kirumi reassured
"... I'm not good at debates...or investigating...or class trials...or any of this stuff! I'll be completely useless.." I started to panic, I'm not good at any of this. What if they all turn on me?
"Well...there's no need to think so hard. We need only converse with the corpse. A corpse is not simply a dead person, that is just an assumption by the living. Yes! By coming face to face with the corpse, you will learn a great many things!" Korekiyo rambled on
"Why are you getting excited!? You're not into dead bodies, are you!?" Tenko yelled
"...The odds are one in fifteen. That shouldn't be hard to figure out." Maki ignored Tenko's remark
"Who's the fuckin' culprit, huh!? Is it you? Or maybe it's you!" Miu pointed to some of us,
"You no can choose that way!" Gonta yelled
"Nishishi, everyone's competing to see who's the most paranoid. Yeah, that's not boring." Kokichi smiled
"Hey...wait, stop! We can't just go accusing each other unless we have valid evidence. Let's just...investigate, okay? Trust each other until the trial begins, at least." I shouted so everyone could hear what I had to say. They all nodded in agreement.
"You can leave it to me, I'll find the culprit in no time!" Kokichi said. And with that, we all went to investigate.

The Ingress Estate
Jonathon Eucole. Soldier. Scholar. Now an Initiate, the dedication without dedication, he finds himself both prisoner and master of an arcane edifice, the Ingress Estate, which can neither be escaped, nor controlled; only diverted, maintained, and pacified. This is a gothic fantasy story, set in a world in which gods and the afterlife are not only real and known, but were both established in living memory of some of the inhabitants after millennia of arcane warfare with the being who constructed the mundane reality the humans occupy. But this isn't the story of those who colonized the afterlife at the cost of their own humanity, but a somewhat more ordinary man, in somewhat extraordinary circumstances. This is also a LitRPG-lite, which means there's a system of sorts, fragments of which can be observed through Jonathon's eyes. Don't expect level-up screens, or statistics, or indeed numbers much at all, beyond those the inhabitants of the world itself apply to understanding their own reality. It pretty much doesn't matter to the story, I mention it so those who don't want to read LitRPG at all can successfully avoid it here. I don't have any particular plan here, just some ideas inherent in the genre. This is a character concept I toyed with some years ago; an old man, bright of mind but weighed down into apathy, both by his past and his responsibilities for a terrible estate that cannot be left without stewardship. Don't expect any kind of overarching plot or story, because that's really not what this is about. Also don't expect much dialogue. Or character development. Or much of anything, really, because I've planned nothing in the way of an actual book, here. Other relevant information, if you've read this far for some reason: The MC isn't super-powerful to begin with, and probably never will be. He's a veteran with some useful skills, and the insight on how to use them, so can deal with the world's ordinary threats reasonably well, but not too much beyond that. --- Currently on hiatus, as currently the story has a rather poor ratio of effort-to-personal-payoff. I may return to this once I have a clear idea of how to get the stories where I want them. I've started a more standard LitRPG using the same system. But if you like intelligence characters who cleverly min-max their classes, it probably isn't the story for you; it's the story of a rather ordinary guy who winds up in a very similar universe.
