The fear of dreams

-

"You'll die here, Killua. Come home, quick! Before your mother kills-" He heard that familiar voice echoing inside his head. It wouldn't stop. It would never stop and it scared him. No, it terrified him. His eyes shot open and it was dark. Deep shadows curling up onto the ceiling and sinking into the wall. He felt his heart beating, too quick for him to even count each beat. He tried to scream but felt that he couldn't. He opened his mouth but nothing came out. All was quiet and all was dark. Suddenly, he couldn't breathe and started to gasp for air desperately. Something was blocking his windpipe. What was it? He didn't know and he didn't want to know. He was truly horrified and completely frozen in fear. He was like an ice sculpture, stuck in time. A pair of arms wrapped around his face and his felt his shoulders rise, becoming tense to the point where his body was quaking with fear. Similar to a helpless leaf, whipping in the wind.

The arms were like a frame around his head and the spider-like fingers inched up his cheeks and covered both his eyes and mouth. He felt long, silky hair hovering over him. Like a spiders web but darker, thicker, more dangerous, even poisonous. It was abnormal yet it felt incredibly familiar. He didn't like it. He actually hated it. The fingers crawled down his cheeks and away from his face. Once the hands and arms vanished, he couldn't feel, he couldn't talk, and he couldn't move. He would be horrified but he couldn't feel anything. No emotion. No pain. "You can't leave." He listened to a familiar voice whisper through the darkness. The dark was like a deep hole and would drag you in any second it gets.

Eyelids ripping open, his body forced itself up. Pain spreading through every limb in his body as his chest heaved. Gon. Where's Gon? The question flew through his head like a bullet. He frantically turned his head to the side, giving a sigh of relief. There he was, sleeping peacefully by his side. Killua leaned back against the pillow as he silently watched Gon sleep. He attempted to lift his own arms but they were limp and heavy.

"Gon." He finally spoke, his voice barely there. No response. "Gon!" He tried to speak louder to no avail. He turned his gaze toward the clock hanging in the room and read: "2:34 am." He sighed. "Wake up." He mumbled with a long yawn, slowly and shakily reaching his hand toward Gon and flicking him lightly in the nose.

He snorted when Gon whined at him for waking him up but then immediately shot up. "Killua! Are you okay?" He practically yelled. Killua noticed how funny his hair was placed because of how he was sleeping and started laughing.

"Gon, I'm fine. Are you?" He asked him, a tiny grin on his face. Gon was such a nerd. Before Gon could answer, that peculiar looking nurse walked in.

"Killua! It's me, Lilith! I've come to take you vitals again." At that, Gon pretty much cringed at how her voice sounded. "And..Gon? Aren't you supposed to leave. We don't allow anyone to stay over night." She said, her tone automatically getting dark. "Hurry now, get up and go."

"I don't think he'll be going anywhere." Killua protested. "I need someone to talk to or I'll get bored cooped up in this stupid room." He hissed.

"Killua, you're delusional and should go back to sleep. Don't you think these drugs are wearing you out a bit?" Lilith smiled innocently as if she wasn't protesting. Without warning she pulled a syringe filled with a dark red liquid. "You're being weird so how about we just drug you up a bit more?" She hummed, sticking the long needle into his arm. "That should do it." She grinned to herself proudly. "Should kick in right about..hum. I'd say right now.

Gon looked at Killua with worry but nothing happened. Nothing at all. It wasn't what Killua thought it was. It was something else and he couldn't identify it. He recognized the liquid from when he was little but no one was...No, it couldn't be. It couldn't be. "What is that stuff?" Gon questioned the nurse, pointing his finger to the red liquid that was still left in the syringe.

"What, this? Oh, it's nothing. Do you want some too or something?" She grinned at Gon, taking another needle out of her pocket. Gon immediately shook his head no. Though, it didn't seem like it was effecting Killua in any way. He was immune to most drugs and poisons wasn't he? Gon knew there was something off about this nurse from the start but couldn't figure out what. "Is it working, Killua?" Her voice chimed in.

"No, It's not working."
