The fear of losing someone you love
-
Gon hopped into his vehicle, a water bottle in hand. He was in a big rush to get to the hospital since he had a plan in mind. He didn't exactly want to be late so he was hurrying. He sped off down the road, almost getting a ticket multiple different times. He was way too worried about Killua for his own good. He kept telling himself that Killua had to be okay. But what if he was already...dead? What if he was dying right at this very moment?
Gon continued to fill his head with 'what-ifs' as he drove down the street to the hospital, it wasn't too far anyway. He was much too afraid. He couldn't help it, he cared too much. He pulled up before the hospital, ripping the keys out of the socket and stuffing them into his pocket as he tossed his water bottle into the backseat. He rushed out of the car into the hospital.
"Only one minute late!" He grinned at his watch and sprinted up to the front desk. He hastily checked himself in and hustled down the hallway to Killua's hospital room. He had remembered exactly what the room number was so it was easy to find. A tall nurse opened up the door only to reveal a sleeping Killua, tucked cozily in the bed. Gon took a sigh of relief once he realized that Killua was surely alive and okay. He had been thinking of Killua much too much and hadn't gotten a single minute or even blink of sleep. You're such a weirdo! Go get some sleep idiot! He heard Killua's soothing voice in the back of his mind which caused him to smile suddenly. He approached Killua and the nurse left the two alone in the room together.

"Killua, wake up." Gon said quietly, taking in the sight of his friend's sleeping face and listening to his soft snore. He didn't wake up at that and Gon should've known. He wasn't too easy to wake up especially in this condition. Gon sighed and started prodding at the other boy's cheek with his pointer finger.
"What?" Killua murmured, half of his beautiful face stuck in the pillow which made his voice muffled out a slight bit. Gon laughed light-heartedly to himself and proceeded to jab his cheek with his finger. "Hey! Stop that!" The boy in the pillow whined, grabbing Gon's finger with one hand as he let out an angry huff, his eyes still shut. Killua's touch was like that of an angel's. It was gentle and his hands and fingers were soft. "Wait...is that you, Gon?" He questioned quietly, fluttering his eyes open and pulling his face from the pillow to get a better look at the other boy.
"Mhm!" Gon eagerly hummed. "I promised I would come to see you. Not as early but I couldn't wait to see you!" Gon chirped excitedly, his lips curling up into that familiar bright smile. Killua was still holding onto Gon's finger when he burst into laughter, burying his face into the pillow to keep the laughter down. "What's so funny?" Gon questioned him curiously and confusedly as he stared.
"You are such a dork, Gon!" Killua exclaimed, barely able to hold back any more laughs as he reached over and flicked Gon straight in the forehead. Gon only chuckled lightly in response and kept a cheeky grin on his face as he rubbed his forehead.
-
Gon and Killua had been having fun for quite a while, laughing, wresting (though Gon had to be really gentle), and talking. At the moment, the two were fooling around, laughing to each other joyously. Killua gently swatted Gon across the face, grinning at him playfully. "I win." He joked and swore he would get revenge (in a playful way). Though when he did-

"I'll get you back!" Gon shouted, sounding determined to do so. He threw his hand hard at Killua and smacked him in the stomach.
"Ow!" Killua gasped out, starting to choke and struggle to breathe as pain ran down his sides. He couldn't breathe. He couldn't breathe. Killua slouched over and pressed at a red button which called for the nurse. As a couple nurses rushed into the room hurriedly, Gon watched with guilt in his eyes. He had no intention on hurting Killua. He noticed the way Killua's gorgeous blue eyes filled with hot tears.
"Killua, I-" He stuttered out before cutting himself off. Killua couldn't hear him, he couldn't breathe very well either. The nurses tended to the fragile boy, helping him to breathe and not to panic. It was difficult for Gon to see Killua in that panicked state, his face melting into a sad look instead of his usual happy one. Killua was usually so cool and calm in terrifying situations. He wasn't able to tear his eyes away until he knew Killua was okay. Eventually they forced a syringe into his side, causing Killua to fall asleep within seconds. His head fell limp against the pillow and one peculiar looking nurse was now taking his vitals as the rest exited the room.
"I'm guessing you're Gon? Killua's been speaking about you so much, he was even asking where you were at six in the morning." The nurse laughed to herself which snapped Gon out of his daze. He took a look at the nurse, staying completely quiet. "Are you two friends or something?" She questioned curiously. Gon only nodded his head and kept his gaze averted towards Killua. He refused to leave unless Killua was okay and he wouldn't even leave to eat.
-
It had been hours since Killua was drugged and he wouldn't wake up. Gon was fast asleep beside Killua, his head rested on the hospital bed as he snored loudly.

CW: Contains mildly graphic scenes of violence/death, topics of unwanted pregnancy/abortion, scientific experimentation on sapient beings, depression/suicide, grief, and trauma. The tone of this fiction is often dark and distinctly dystopian in lighter shades of Margaret Atwood, though where there is darkness there is always hope and light. On Hiatus Until September When the School Year Begins and Mom This story takes a considerable amount of time and mental energy to complete. I thought I had enough backlog and time to post it as a serial while COVID kept my child home from school, but it turns out while I can quickly write other pieces, I cannot produce the quality I need with this one at an acceptable rate. We'll resume in September when my days are much freer. Thank you for your patience and stay tuned for a different storytelling romp more suited for a serial platform in the meantime.
