《Marvel One-Shots》I'll Be Beside You

Peter swung into his room after a night of patrolling. He tore off his mask breathing heavily. 'Now that, that was a rough night' he thought. Spider-Man has stopped two attempted robberies and a few muggings. He almost got shot but was able to move at the last minute which was great cause he didn't need Tony fussing all over him again. Peter took off the rest of his suit before getting into the shower.
~15 minutes later~
Peter walked out into the kitchen and grabbed a pack of ramen. It was late but he knew that if he didn't eat, his metabolism would backstab him. He quickly cooked the ramen and ate it, then heading back to his bedroom. He pulled his iron man covers over him and fell asleep. If only he knew what we're to happen the next morning.
~time skip~
Tony had finally finished with his 3rd board meeting of the day and it wasn't even twelve yet. He sighed and went to grab his fourth cup of coffee. He glared at his fellow teammates as they all chuckled as he filled up his spider-man mug.
"Geez Tony. You look awful." Clint giggled while watching the man death glare him as his coffee unknowingly went over the rim of the mug.
"Shit."
Clint snorted into his own coffee laughing at the mess of the hero.
"Tony? You okay? You seem annoyed." Bruce asked, concern lacing his voice.
"Yeah. I'm fine. Just too many meetings."
"I saw your intern leave earlier. Peter, right?"
"Yeah. I was going to say hello but he left before I was able too."
Natasha looked up from her late breakfast and looked at Tony puzzled. "Since when did you care so much about your interns?"
Tony sighed, " This kid is different. I don't know. He's smart and kind. Always determined to help others. He's a good kid. He is also a great help around he lab-" Tony was cut short when his phone rang out with an unknown number. "Hold on I have to take this."
Tony turned away slurping his coffee as he answers the call, "I don't know how in hell you got this number but I'm not giving any money to you all so stop call-....what? you're not joking. oh my god. I'll be there as soon as I can. Thank you." Tony quickly grabbed his wallet and car keys and motioned for Bruce to follow. All the other Avengers sat in silence not speaking, because they had never seen a look so broken in Stark' eyes.
~laterrrrr~ (sorry I'm tired)
Tony walked up to the receptionist's desk briskly, ignoring all the stares and Bruce's attempts at asking Tony what had happened. The car ride there had been silent, Bruce looking at Tony concerned as he heard his friend mumble, "...not today...this isn't fair...". He followed Tony to the desk and looked up to the man when he heard who they were there for, "What floor is Peter Parker on?" The receptionist looked up at Tony Stark in shock but quickly regained herself, "uhh..floor 3, room 7."
Tony walked into the elevator with Bruce not far behind. His phone was buzzing but his mind was swirling with frightening thoughts, 'what if he's dead? He'll never know. What if I'm too late?'
Bruce had been getting texts from the others as well but he knew that he couldn't say anything until he knew what was wrong. He only knew that something bad happened to Tony's intern. He saw a tear fall down his friends cheek as the elevator doors flew open and they walked out. The air seemed to darken it's mood as soon as Tony took that step.

When they got to room 7, Tony hesitated before he opened the door. "Tony? What are we doing here?"
Tony looked at Bruce with teary eyes. "I got a call that Peter was hit by a car after jumping in front to save a kid. ..he's..always trying to save others..even if he gets..if he gets hurt" Tony said as he held back sobs.
Bruce only nodded. He had no idea that this kid meant so much to Tony. Bruce put his hand onto Tony's back to help and Tony opened the door to the room.
If Bruce actually worked in a hospital, the first thing he would do would be to definitely change the design. This room radiated despair and hopelessness. The white of the walls and the white of the floor blended into one gross mix of sadness(me tho). The sight on the bed only made the mood worsen.
Tony dropped to the floor as he saw Peter. His kid had wires everywhere. The heart monitor beeped in a steady beat and the sound of the IV drip echoed in the silence of the room. Tony picked himself up and walked over to Peter. He ran his hand through the soft brown locks and sobbed at the sight of a large bandage that wrapped around Peter's head. The oxygen mask on Peter's face only made him cry harder. "Hey kid.. I know you probably can't hear me but just know that I'm here okay?"
Bruce teared up at the sight. His friend who's only emotions were 'don't touch me I've had enough shit today, or the all time fun Stark sass' had disappeared since the phone call from earlier. Bruce walked up next to Tony and gasped at the sight. The kid totally got messed up. But he knew that this kid was a hero. He heard sniffling so he looked to his left. Tony was starting to sob leaving out ragged breaths "He should've been okay..he should've had the time." Tony started shaking and he started to sweat. Bruce watched in shock as Tony stared to have a panic attack. This kid must have a bigger impact on Tony than Bruce originally thought. It took a bit for Bruce to calm Tony down but sat in the plastic chairs next to Peter's bed.
For the next hour, they sat in the silence of the beeping of the heart monitor and the drip of an IV. And all Tony could think of was 'how did this happen?'
Peter had been about half a mile from school when he heard a screech of a car. He knew his hearing had improved since the bite so he ran towards the direction of the sound. His spider sense had starting ringing but he pushed it aside and focused on the sound of a screech. He turned the corner only to watch in horror as a car cave barreling down the street just as a small girl dropped her ball in the street. He saw the mother try and reach out to the girl but was too late as the girl had already went to grab it. The mother yelled out as her eyes widened in shock when she saw the car coming. She stared screaming as other civilians around her noticed the upcoming incident. Many tried to get the car to notice the little girl. Just as the small child looked up and stared in fright as the car came near she felt a painfully hard shove. She yelled out in pain as she hit the side of the street and cried when her arm broke. She sat up sobbing but stopped when she saw what had hit her she ignored the many people coming to check on her.

A few feet away lay an older boy. A boy with lightly curled brown locks. His eyes were closed, scrunched up in pain as blood dripped down his head. His leg was bent at an odd angle and his back was pushed out. His arm was twisted up so she closed her eyes to look away. She heard someone yell "call 911!" And watched in horror as civilians rushed in to look at the boy. She heard that he was unconscious and bleeding bad. Her mother sobbed as she picked up her little girl in her arms. She looked back at the boy who had saved his daughter's life. She heard sirens coming nearer as she prayed that they would get here in time. A man from the street was holding down the driver of the car requesting help from fellow people. The man was obviously drunk. He was spitting out profanity about how kids were stupid and how it was the kid's own fault. He struggled against being held down but the people around him wouldn't let go. A police car parked nearby and gasped at the sight. He called in for the ambulance to get here quicker after a civilian yelled that the kid's pulse got weaker. The officer could tell that this kid was barley holding on. The teen's eyes scrunched up in pain and he groaned now becoming aware to the damage of his body. His partner called for him to snap out of it and he ran to join her in cuffing the driver. They shoved him in the car giving the normal 'you have the right to remain silent speech' and closed the door. He looked up to see paramedics push through he crown with a stretcher. They carefully put a neck brace on the teen and lifted him up to get him on the stretcher. They loaded the kid into the ambulance and he saw that as they closed the door and started to drive off, the kid's body seize. As the ambulance drove off, his partner called him over telling him she had an ID on the kid. The ID said Peter Parker. He was a student at midtown high so he must be smart. He opened the kid's wallet and found emergency information. So he called the first number.
~end of a really long flashback sorryyy~
Tony looked up as the doctor walked in. The woman froze just as quickly as she unfroze. "Hello Mr. Stark. Mr.Banner." Both nodded at each other. "Peter had you placed as his emergency contact." Tony nodded signaling for her to continue. "Peter has a broken leg and a broken arm. Due to the force on his back from the car there is a chance of paralysis but we won't know until he wakes up. He also suffered severe head trauma but luckily he didn't slip into a coma. We expect him to wake up but not anytime soon. His body needs to rest." She nodded once again and turned to leave the room. "I'm very sorry Mr. Stark." She closed the door leaving the pair to process what his injuries were.
Tony cried. "Paralysis? The kid won't ever be like his old self. How is he supposed to do what he loved when he can't move his legs.?"
Bruce looked at his friend in sympathy. "If he is..maybe you could do what you did for Rhodey?" he said hopefully.
Tony only nodded and placed his hand over the kid's. "Tony? I'm going to get some food and tell the others that we won't be back for a while."
When Bruce came back with two cups of coffee and some turkey sandwiches he smiled sadly when he saw that Tony had fallen asleep with his head resting on the kid's not broken leg, and holding the not broken arm's hand. Tony's eyes were puffy from crying so Bruce ate his food and drank his coffee and watched the pair as he too fell asleep.
Over the next few days, Peter still hadn't awoken. Tony hasn't slept at all as the bags under his eyes only got darker. He had been avoiding food as well. He only sat by Peter's bed. The other Avengers came to visit all sharing concerned looks with Bruce but they all left knowing that only the kid's safety mattered to Tony right now. (Ray, this thing autocorrected safety to dagger again. I think my phone is going to kill me)
That night, Bruce asked Tony why the kid was so important to him. He didn't say anything just handed Bruce a piece of paper. At the top said 'Adoption'. Bruce looked at Tony in shock. "I was planning on giving those to Peter that day. It was his birthday gift. After May died, I brought him in. I knew he really wanted to be a family again so I was going to surprise him. I never expected this."
Bruce smiled. "I'm sure he would've loved it. What's he like? I mean, he is going to be my nephew."
Tony gave a light chuckle. The first sign of any happiness in days. "Yeah. He's really smart. And he loves helping others. He's going to be a real help in the lab. He's funny and kind and also a huge nerd."
The two talked about Peter for a while and Bruce fell asleep. Tony smiled feeling his eyelids close. He felt a small pull as Peter's hand held his tighter. Tony smiled. Peter knew that Tony was talking about him. And Tony smiled as he squeezed Peter's hand back, "I'll always be next to you. No matter what." Tony whispered as he drifted off knowing that everything was going to be okay.
The sound of a heart monitor beeped quietly in the large hospital. The echo of an IV drip sounded throughout the room accompanied by two sets of small snores. The doctor smiled at the sight of Tony Stark holding Peter's hand and Bruce Banner leaning off his chair as he snored. The doctor did a quick checkup on Peter's vitals before walking to leave the room. She looked back at Tony and Peter and smiled. Maybe this kid will bring a new change to Tony Stark.
And as the sun rose up lighting the hospital rooms, the other Avengers walked into the sight of cards piled up on the bedside table, most from the little girl and her family and Peter sitting up right talking to Bruce. They were laughing about some nerdy stuff when Tony noticed the rest of the team. They all filed in and looked at Tony for an introduction.
"Hey guys. This is Peter. My son."

The regularity of uploads will depend on how well this catches on (but nonetheless, expect at least 1-2 ch/wk).I proofread my own work before uploading it, so there may be grammatical errors or misused vocabulary. Please let me know in the comments and I'll fix it. I found inspiration for this novel from various sources (Cyberpunk 2077, The Mech Touch, etc.) so in some places you may find some similarities. Please note that it is just an inspiration and I'm not trying to blatantly copy those works.
