Rusty blinked.
The wolf in front of him wasn't a wolf anymore, it was a fluffy grey cat staring at him, panicked. Wisps of yellow floated around him, and the trees that were once a lush shade of green were now a dull black.
He let out a shocked yowl, and his vision returned to normal.
The grey wolf approached him, ears held back and snout dipped low in regret. The orange tom backed away slowly, but was soon cornered against a tree. The wolf gave his bite a cautious lick and stared at Rusty before abruptly fleeing.
Rusty stared in astonishment for a few seconds. What just happened? His curiosity tugged at him like a dog on a leash. Without a second thought, Rusty sped after the wolf, even though his legs ached.
Smelling the air, he followed the wolf's track past dense forest and open clearings until, suddenly, an impenetrable wall of vines appeared.
Despite the sudden barrier, the wolf's scent seemed to continue inside of it. Confused, Rusty took a step towards the plants and they instantly began to separate themselves into a small tunnel.
He jumped back in surprise, and the vines returned to normal. Staring at his paw in curiosity, he gained the courage to approach them again. Wisps of yellow curled around the vines, bending them out of Rusty's way. Amazed, he crept further into the forming passage.
Rusty pushed himself through the last of the vines, and his gaze fell upon a large mountain. The wolf's scent lead straight into a dark opening within it. Taking weary steps forward, he pushed into the darkness.
His eyes adjusted, and he saw a brilliant blue crystal, shimmering with drawings of sleeping cats and howling wolves. He also saw two cats in the center, a large blue molly and smaller grey tom with a darker stripe down his back. He also saw the wolf, and quickly hid behind a rock.

A soft howl filled the cavern, and glowing yellow eyes appeared from the shadows as once-hidden wolves crept out of every space imaginable. The wolf howled again, and the others flooded in around the glowing stone.
Rusty glanced outside of his hiding place, and saw the grey wolf turn a brilliant yellow. It lept into the sleeping body of the young tom, and a yellow wolf symbol floated above his head, before disintegrating.
He peered out more, and the toms yellow eyes shot open. He gasped, but quickly returned to hiding. He could only hope he wasn't spotted...
